Thanks for checking on the cabana rental for me. I appreciate you taking the time to ask!!!

I'll be at the GF in 28 days and I am so excited - especially after watching the GF on Great Hotels yesterday. I would LOVE to get the room SB had. I have a good sporting chance since I'm booked in a LV room and I requested a dormer. I love those vaulted ceilings. :goodvibes

- THANKS for alerting us that the GF was on tv yesterday!! I SAW IT! I rarely watch the travel channel, so if you hadn't posted I never would have known. SB did have an adorable room, didn't she?? And all those flowers and treats! Lovely! I saw the WD suite again - LOVED that suite. :goodvibes

Channing,

I taped it so my DH could watch it, too, so I watched it twice yesterday. I made some hints to DH about the chocolate treats seen in the rooms. Maybe he'll get the picture and call private dining and order that box of chocolate made out of chocolate that was in the Victorian Suite. Oh, and my DS said to me, "Mom, you need a Grand Floridian chair when you need 5 minutes." I guess I say "Mommy needs 5 minutes" a lot for him to have caught on to what SB said while sitting in that lounge chair.

Hi, everyone. I’ve been back since last week but haven’t had a chance to catch up on the Dis just yet. I hope to do so soon.

I have begun putting a few photos of my Grand Floridian Turret Room into a new on-line photo album. Since I took photos of the room kinda helter-skelter, I’ve got quite a few photos to look through in order to gather the proper ones together. After having spent almost 5-1/2 weeks in Walt Disney World, you can probably imagine how many photos I have to wade through.

I will try to get the turret room photos done as quickly as possible. Until that happens, my on-line photo album will be a work in progress. Please forgive me if photos appear, disappear, and re-appear in that album over the next couple of days. I promise to post again once the photo album is complete.

Here is the link to my Turret Room photo album: click here.

Is that something new to have concierge call when your room is ready? I know that we've always been given a little card with a number on it to call and check on room status.

TammiMcMan, during my vacation, I stayed in seven different Disney resorts. If my room wasn't ready upon check-in, a few of the resorts had asked me for my cell phone number so that they could alert me as soon as my room was ready. Since I wasn't carrying my cell phone with me into the parks, I never utilized that service therefore I can't tell you how accurate it was. I relied on the old tried & true method -- calling the resort myself in order to check on my room's status. It worked every time. ;)

Janet,

Great pictures! I am hoping that for my 10 year wedding anniversary that my DH and I will stay in a turret room. The pictures are just beautiful.

I am in AWE of you staying in WDW for 5 1/2 weeks. Wow! What a dream come true!!! Did you resort hop?? Are you going to do one of your fabulous trip reports? Can't wait!!!

Scanne, I’ll get the Off Topic stuff out of the way first...

I normally only vacation in WDW for one or two weeks either once or twice a year. These past couple of years have been exceptions to the rule due to circumstances in my real life (planning a Fairy Tale Weddings vow renewal; husband being laid-off; husband going back to school; my being laid-off; husband starting a new career; my taking time out from the work force; etc.).

On this vacation I resort hopped seven times: All-Star Movies, Saratoga Springs, Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Beach Club, BoardWalk Villas, and Beach Club Villas. I have now finally stayed in every on-site Disney resort. ~Phew!~ It feels good to say that.

Will I write a Trip Report about this summer’s vacation? Are you CRAZY?! I still haven’t finished my Fairy Tale Weddings Vow Renewal Trip Reports (two of ‘em). The guilt over that is killing me, ~gulp.~

The On Topic stuff starts now…

Seriously, I probably won’t write a Trip Report but I will share pieces of my Grand Floridian vacation here in the GF FAQ thread.

For example, I hosted a private party for some dear friends at the Grand Floridian’s marina. I hired a photographer from the Disney Event Group to take photographs of that event. Thanks to my Disney photographer, I have lovely photos to share (well, at least the photos that my friends will allow me to share because some of those photos could be used as blackmail material – "Spring Break!"). I’m not sure when I’ll get around to sharing those photos, but hopefully it will be within the next couple of weeks.

I also have photos to share of the Royal Palm Club lounge’s munchie offerings (my daughter took them for me). I’ll try to share them soon (or at least put them into existing photo albums).

As I wade through a myriad of vacation photos, I’ll keep an eye out for anything Grand Floridian related that might prove of interest to the GF FAQ thread. If I find anything, I promise I’ll share it here.

As to the Turret Room that I stayed in during my vacation, I finally showed photos of that room to my husband yesterday (I had described the room to him over the telephone while I was vacationing in it). As he viewed the photos he asked, “Why haven’t we stayed in that room before? It’s lovely.” I had to explain that during our normal family vacations, there are four of us. That room only sleeps two. He laughed when he heard that. I didn’t bother explaining that the room can’t be booked, only requested, and that the room is really given out by Tinker Bell herself, just as it was given to my daughter and me. Some things husbands will never understand so I’ve learned to keep quiet. ;)

Scanne, I hope you are lucky enough to receive a Turret Room on your anniversary. Photos just do not do that room justice (well, at least mine don’t).

I don't think there are accessible rooms on every floor of Sugar Loaf. We had an accessible room for both of our stays in Sugar Loaf and both times had the same room which is on the 3rd floor marina side. Someone told me that there aren't that many accessible rooms at the GF. :confused3 We loved the room as well as the one next to it which we needed as well. :sunny:

How was that room? How was the view??DId it sleep 4 or 5? Was the room next to it accessible as well??? Any pictures???? Was it difficult being on the third floor with the lounge on the first floor???
Thanks again for any info. :thumbsup2

The room was great. The view was of the marina and Fantasy in the Sky was fun to watch and very loud as the buildings seem to form sort of a canyon for sound.

Our stays were way back in January of 02 and Dec 02-Jan 03 so some things may have changed. But at that time, the room only slept four. It had a lovely loveseat instead of the daybed. The room next door was not accessible.

Being on the third floor was no problem. In fact, I think I would prefer not to be on the same floor as the lounge just for a more peaceful feeling. The elevators are steps away.

Sorry, I have no clue how to show pictures and the ones I have are the oldfashioned kind...not digital. :confused3

I can't wait to go!!!!  :cheer2: Did you have a long wait for the elevators at all???? So I guess if I have a choice should I request the 3rd floor???
I am glad to hear that the room next door was not accessible, I am hoping that my mother can get that room.

Janet, thanks so much for sharing your photos. I think DH and I are going to bite the bullet and book a honeymoon room for my belated 30th b-day celebration next December. We would love to get a turret room. Did your room have a view that included the castle? (It was hard to tell from the Wishes photos if you were able to see the castle, too.) Thanks!

Yes, the 3 turret rooms from which you can see Wishes have a castle view. We've stayed in 2 of these 3.
Cheers!

Yippee, Lindsay! You'll love it. OT, did you see on the DDA that June has lung cancer? It's so sad.

Hi, Channing. Yes, we leave 3 weeks from tomorrow. I am soooooooooooo excited! :cool1: I'll be at MM and Fantamic on your Anniversary. I'll think about you! Did you know that the CR Atrium Club has computers in the rooms with free internet right now? How cool! I'm still going to be missing the GF though.

June is a DISer (legalslave) on our t-shirt thread. She's been sick with Bronchitis/Pneumonia and in the hospital. She just found out yesterday it is lung cancer. We are all really upset about it and praying non-stop.

Have a great Labor Day weekend!

Denise - I BET you're excited!! Almost time to start packing! :goodvibes You will love the CR. That new lounge sounds gorgeous and the rooms look awesome. I am crossing my fingers that you get the MK view. It will take your breath away.

I am so sorry to hear about your friend June. Hope the prayers work. :wizard:That is just so sad. :guilty:

My girls just started school yesterday & today is their first full day. (Zack started the middle of August) Today is my first full day in 16 yrs of being on my own without at least one of my kids. Don't know yet whether to jump for joy. :confused3 Kind of quiet and weird without them. I know the day will go quickly and I have errands to run which will help, but it is strange. The three of us are a team.

You guys have a wonderful weekend, too. :sunny:

Do all the rooms at GF have nightly turn down service? Or is it a perk of concierge level rooms?

Thanks!

Another question... Do you recommend making ADR's for dining at the GF Cafe? I was thinking it would be a convenient place for us to eat breakfasts, or for dinner before MK one night. I didn't think about making ADR since we're right there in the resot, but it sounds like it might be a popular place and I'm wondering if it's advisable to have ADRs.

Thanks again!
