I was thinking of ordering the 6" layer cake since we will be celebrating our anniversary while we are there. Would that be about right for 2 people to share? ... I was thinking white cake, raspberry filling and white chocolate frosting, with the white chocolate Minnie and Mickey topper...

Poohangel, the 6-inch cake would definitely be plenty for the two of you. And I love the cake that you have selected. WOW! If I didn't just pig out on a Mrs. Prindable's Reese's Peanut Butter candy apple that UPS delivered from QVC this afternoon, I would be heading out the door to my local bakery in hopes of finding a cake just like you described (minus the white chocolate Mickey & Minnie topper, that is). It sounds decadent and perfect for an anniversary.

Meezers (nice to see you around here!) gave an excellent suggestion for any leftover cake -- share it with those around you. I remember seeing that happen at the Grand Floridian during one of my recent vacations. Some folks had a rather large cake delivered to them out on the pool deck. When they realized how large the cake was (it was way too large for their party's size), they asked those sitting around them if they wanted to share in the birthday celebration. Plenty of folks jumped at the chance. It was cute to watch it all unfold. Strangers making acquaintances over birthday cake while on a vacation at the most magical place on earth, ~sigh.~

Poohangel, I just remembered that you were going to have your cake delivered to your room. I guess I know what you'll be eating for breakfast the next morning. ;) By the way, happy (early) anniversary!

DH has gout and is experiencing a horrible, horrible flare-up. He can barely walk. One thing they suggest is eating cherries everyday. Well, the IPO staff is having the kitchen stock frozen cherries for our trip. That staff is awesome!

OH!! I am sorry to hear that!! You guys are having a heck of a time -first that stupid AAA emergency (and who can forget the penny incident! :goodvibes ) and now this. Hope he feels better fast!! :wizard: You guys are going to LOVE the GF!! :sunny:

I am impressed with the GF IPO's resonses to your problem. I have been totally underimpressed with their responses to my emails. I hate to be a downer but they are just so very blah and short but not even sweet. Kind of cold and dry. Nothing like the very nice and friendly responses I am getting from the BWI IPO. They have been awesome. The bum thing is I LOVE the GF, but if this were my first stay & I was getting my first impression from the IPO team, I would be disappointed big time just by their lack of charm and friendliness. Ugh. Maybe I have just come in contact with a bad one. (or two  ) I have just sent 2 emails and had 2 short, concise, unfriendly responses.

Davids-Coco, I don't think you're a resort snob. You've just found a place where you're comfortable and enjoy yourself, it's as simple as that. ;)

I hope you can get your Grand Floridian stay for the convention. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Please keep us posted.
Thank you. It is scheduled for July 2007 AND July 2011... I will have to wait at least a little while until I know for sure.

Tammi: I'm sorry your daughter's team isn't coming to WDW. It does make your traveling situation easier. Keep us updated on your son. :goodvibes

Janet: Did you have to mention a Reece's peanut butter cup candied apple? I'm trying to be good before our trip. That sounds MMMMMmmmmmmmmmMMMMMMMM!

Denise: I hope your husband is feeling better. I know it can take awhile to run its course. We leave for the World in 2 weeks! :cheer2:

Lives4Disney: I know what you mean about the emails. I did have one funny one though. I do have to say that they have been on top of everything. I have gotten responses within the hour every single time. Top notch service!

My DH's birthday is Nov. 30. Now everybody has me wanting to order a CAKE while we're there. We ordered the Mickey Mouse head shaped cake last year and it was perfect. Lots of fun for the kids and my 43 year old big kid.

Lori

thanks everyone for your responses to my cake questions, I guess I will be calling today to order this. I want to check in early, go tour the decorations at other resorts and have the cake waiting in the room when we get back. It will be a surprise for DH.

Denise, hope that your husband is feeling better soon. Knowing what my uncle suffers when his gout kicks in, I know that your dh is in alot of pain so here is some pixie dust for him and your little pixies that are having surgery today. for you too of course ;)

On top of that, all three kids (yes ALL!) had to have surgery today for new ear tubes. They did great, but it's been a very busy and stressful week. I'm so ready for Disney!

The cherries are helping along with the various prescriptions he's on. The kids did great with surgery today. Thanks for the good wishes and prayers!

I hope everyone is doing well. :grouphug: and :love2: to your beautiful babies!

Denise, I didn't know about the surgery. I hope they're up and running today. If anyone deserves some CL pampering it's you! Our husbands can sit in SL and compare their gout aches and pains.

Does anyone know if the Gingerbread house is up yet? Are they working on it?

They can share the cherries that the kitchen is getting!

I called GF bakery and they said they did not take orders for cakes, that i would have to talk to private dining since they would be the ones to deliver it to the room. Ok, I call private dining and Tony says they do not have a 6" cake that can be customized, just a standard cake. So I had to order the 10" (feeds 16 people) cake to get the raspberry mousse filling and the white chocolate mickey. Guess we will be eating on that for the whole week :goodvibes

Poohangel,

Private dining arranged my husband's birthday cake last Dec. They did a wonderful job. When we came back to the room that night it was beautifully displayed on the table. They provided us with plates, linen napkins, and heavy silverware. Balloons were floating above the cake. My husband was surprised and my MIL was impressed. ;) My children thought Mickey had remembered their father's birthday. :flower:

Lori

Thats good to hear, after calling and talking to so many different people I hope I get the cake I ordered. You were not there when it was delivered? I had to tell them a time I would be in our room to have mine delivered. :confused3

No, we weren't in the room. I did have to tell them a time frame to deliver. We went to HDDR and it was in the room when we returned. My husband was so tickled, it was funny. He reverts back into a childlike state whenever we're at WDW. :goodvibes

Me too, this is our 4th trip in 4 years but our first time during the Christmas season and I cant wait, only 8 more days :cheer2:

How far in advace is this possible...we may have missed the date...we arrive on Dec 11th

What is the #? How do I do it?

I tried searching on this thread but it is 80 pages long!! :goodvibes

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone on this thread for all your help in planning our trip. I especially appreciate Tammy, Janet, and CA Dreaming. You all have been such valuable resources!

We leave on Tuesday and should be set for our 8 nights in SLC. I have emailed the IPO about our room request again, and they have it in the computer on our ressie. I will have access to DH's laptop while there, so I'll try to post a couple of trip reports.

Anything I might have forgotten? thanks!
