TripleFigs.....I have never eaten at Narcoossee's either and booked it for our Thanksgiving trip. Heatherlynn said the filet is awesome.

I just checked my TIVO and there is no other days listed for the Great Hotels GF...They do have the Animal Kingdom Lodge and the Yacht Club listed..

Hello:)

I thought I would ask what it is like in Nov. early Dec.?
Our trip is planned for Nov. 26-Dec. 2. We are staying at the GF RPC. I have 4 children ages 8,6,4, and 1. This will be our third time to Disney in the past three years. We have always gone in the winter or early spring. I am very excited about the christmas decor. and seeing the large gingerbread house.

I have already made dining resv. Has anyone done the fantasmic show and dinner? What is the best place to eat for that?
And I am looking at doing the tea with my 4 year old daughter has anyone done that. It is a bit $$ but I only have one daughter and sounds like fun.

I would like to have a room facing the castle. I did mention castle view when making the reserv. though my travel agent. Is there anything else I could do by calling?

What about the Chistmas party at MK? do you have to get tickets in adv?

Transportation from airport? I have always taken a private limo transfer any other suggestions? What is the disney transportation like? Is is a long wait?

Thanks for reading and any suggestions you may have...:flower3:

Ok...Who watched the Travel Channel Great Hotels?? I watched it and found myself going "Ewwwww and Ahhhhh"!! I really enjoyed watching the show, but it made me want to be at the GF right now!! I guess 4 1/2 months is not too far away.. lol

I watched it, but I thought 30 min was not long enough!! I wanted to see more :(

Channing, you'll have to let me know how it is! We booked 7:30pm with Wishes at 10pm. I figure we'll have time to either make it back to the CR to watch the fireworks or stay and see them from Gaspys. We also added an ADR for 1900 PF breakfast the next day before flying out.

Lillypie123, I've done the perfectly princess tea with my dd and thought it was great. She still loves to play with the doll they get there. I hear the other wonderland tea is good too, but my dd would never have done anything like that by herself, and I was glad to get to be there and enjoy a fun mother-daughter event.

As for limos, we LOVE Southern Elegance. They are wonderful. We've used them MANY times. Always great.:thumbsup2 I have never used ME and don't want to. Limo's are much more convenient.

RPC is wonderful, too. That is a beautiful time to be there. You can just sit in teh lounge and smell the yummy gingerbread. THey will fill you up with gingerbread in the lounge, too, haha. Tons of it everywhere.

I do buy our Xmas party tickets in advance.....not too far in advance, though, because we are never positive about any of our plans and I am commitment phobic. Some parties have been known to sell out, but not many.

I always request a castle view and have always been lucky enough to get it. You can email the IPO dept. with any requests you have.

For the Fantasmic dinner package, of the restaurants offered, Brown Derby is my absolute favorite - it's one of my WDW faves anyway - so that's what I would book. It is getting kind of late in the game, though, so not sure you'll have much choice at this point.

We did the princess tea party, if that's the one you're talking about. I loved it, my older daughter loved it (she was 8 at the time) my younger almost 5 yr old daughter thought it was too long. She sat and played with her princess Polly's while DD8 and I enjoyed the stories and songs.

Happy planning,

Lives4Disney

Gotta agree with HeatherLynn that the filet is excellent. Also, if you don't happen to have a seat close enough to the window, feel free to head out onto Narcoossee's deck to watch Wishes and the EWP.

Great! We have a 7:30 ressie, too....gotta check what time Wishes is that night. I didn't even put 2 & 2 together regarding Wishes from that restaurant. Just got the time I asked for.

I am a steak lover, no fish for me so great to hear that the filet has fans.:woohoo:

Channing - it will be back on September 23 at 12:00, followed by the Yacht & Beach Club at 12:30, then the AKL at 1:00.

Or, the AKL is on August 30 at 12, and the Y&BC on Sept 6 at 12. ;)

If pressed to say something bad about the place, I would mention that the elevators in our building were very slow. .

Its interesting you said this. We just got back and that was one thing we noticed. We only had to go from the lobby or 2nd floor to our 3rd floor room and it always took a while.
One day we went to the contemporary and took the elevator from the fourth floor to the first and we were all surprised how quickly we arrived. IT couldnt have been more than 5 seconds. It was pretty funny.

We're back!
We were upgraded - we were in room 4430, and the room was just lovely. The whole resort is beautiful, the grounds and the lobby were extremely impressive. I thought the decorating was beautiful, I really liked how they incorporated so many hidden Mickey's (and Minnie's, and Donald's, and Daisy's and Goofy's!) into the wallpaper, carpet, and bedspreads.

WE got back sunday night. We were on the floor below in 4317.
It was fun seeing all those hidden characters. The ones on the bathroom wallpaper come to mind

I was really surprised at what the conceige (sp?) level was like. We were given the keys to our room and told to just use the "special" elevator to access our rooms. We never spoke with any conceige (again, sp?) staff member - not the whole weekend. Although we saw several and said hello, we were not acknowledged, or worse, twice we were asked if we knew we were on the conceige level floors. Maybe we didn't look like we belonged? I know that there were other guests that were given a tour of some type, maybe there wasn't a staff member available when we checked in and therefore no one knew who we were? I'm not sure.
I didn't get a tour either and now that you mention it I did see some people being led around. We didn't need a tour so it never occurred to me.
We did speak with a few concierge staff sometimes for fun and a few times to solve some problems and concerns which they really came through for. I'll post about that in a trip recap.

We had very good luck with the buses, I think the longest we waited was at Downtown Disney coming back to the room, about a 20 minute wait. When we went to Downtown Disney and to MGM, it was much shorter, not even 10 minutes each time. The monorails were very good as well, most of the time there was a monorail there when we were heading to MK or Epcot.

I hate being there without a car but the buses were good. We never waited long either. The most had to be 10-15 and that was maybe once. We took busses to MGM, AK, Typhoon Lagoon, and Downtown Disney.
One think I liked is that coming home from TL or DD the GF bus is seperate from the POLY/Contemp bus. This gave us the option to take the Poly bus if we didnt want to wait and take the monorail one stop from the Poly to the GF. We almost did this once but then decided to wait but it was nice to know we could do that.

.

The CM's (there were two - twice we were asked if we knew where we were) were a bit rude about it, but more questioning, like, why are you here? types. We did just check in at the front desk, and given regular keys - at least, they were the same keys that we get when we stay DVC. Blueish with wording on them. We were not greated by a concierge CM, but we didn't know we should've been.

-

When we arrived I didnt see any area for club level arrivals but i knew there should be. I asked at the bell services location for concierge check in and was told to walk into the building and go to the right.
I wasn't going to let that stop me ( i like the gold cards for one thing) so as soon as I walked through the doors I saw the greeter and asked him about concierge check in. He immediately got someone to bring us up. Maybe the CM saw your blue cards and questioned because of that?

Unless I am 100% wrong about this the few times I have seen Wishes from the marina by Gasparilla's, I don't remember hearing the music.

I actually think you are not wrong.
We watched from the marina on one of our first nights. I dont remember hearing anything but when we did a wishes cruise the music was piped into the boat. This was the first time for me hearing the music with the fireworks.

It was so much more enjoyable because the music is really in sync with the fireworks and made it a different show. I was really surprised how everything matched up and I think i would have noticed it at the Marina if we heard the music then.

Hmm....I wonder why others and myself have heard it from the marina.:confused3 I KNOW I have sat above Gaspies on our balcony and listened to it - often. Strange. Glad you had a nice time.

Cinderella Fan
- thanks for the info on the show. I will try and catch it the second time around.

I know everyone has explained the photo session at GF but I wasn't real familiar with photo pass so I just want to make sure I understand it correctly.
If I preorder a photo pass CD for $100 will I get all the GF photo session pictures (40 I think, right?) AND all of the park pictures that we get taken by Disney photogs? This will give me the copyrights to them so I can take them anywhere to get printed? Sorry, but sometimes (usually) I need more explaining than a normal person. :confused3 We usually don't get that many pictures done but for $100 this seems like a real deal. Also, does anyone know how long the session lasts?

My brain is fried from all the Disney planning :scared1:

Great question! I'm eager to hear the response to this also......:goodvibes
On another note....my brain is also fried from all this planning too!:scared1: I hope I have it all down and ready before we get there!

When we were at the GF in July, we could definitely hear the music while watching Wishes from the marina. There appeared to be speakers in the plant beds. One night, I was on the right side (as I faced the castle) near the umbrella tables and couldn't hear all that well. Then another night, I moved to the left side and could hear much, much better. So it may be that the speakers are hit or miss and that could explain how someone might not have heard music down there??:confused3

I wouldnt be surprised if sometimes the speakers are on or off or just too low. I remember at the Poly that i was there for a few days before hearing the music on the grounds.
In our case at the Marina we sat to the left facing the castle at the top of the stairs leading to the tables by the fence.

Anyway I'll give you the highlights of our trip. We went with friends, were a party of 10 and spread ourselves among 3 rooms. All 3 rooms were adjoining with 2 connecting. My friends kids and some of mine shared the middle room which gave some extra space to the parents.
Our rooms were 4315,16 and 17. These face the quiet pool and at first I was disappointed but grew to love the view. You can actually see a lot. We had a view of space mountain, most of the fireworks, a view of the lagoon towards the marina, a view of the lagoon on the Poly side, a view of the Poly and of course Big Pine key, Sugar Loaf and Boca Chica. Down and to our left you could see a restaurant which i assume was citricos.

I bought an Ipod before we went and it was nice to be able to play it through the clock radio.
As i said above there was no one to greet us as club level guests and was told to check inside.
During our 10 days only once did i see someone at a podium near the lobby doors with a sign that said club arrivals.
I asked the greeter who got someone to bring us up and both my friend and I were checked in together. We were checked in but the guy from independence, MO who i remembered heather(?) had a problem with. He was ok but I could see where the way he talked could cause a problem. After checking in my friend he said "do i have to go over all that again or were you listening?" I don't know if he realizes how he sounds but...

My wife bonded right away to cm Mejay. She was fantastic, was so genuine, and nice and friendly and went out of her way to keep asking my wife what she needed.
When my wife mentioned if we could get some milk in the room for our baby she had a gallon placed in the fridge for us and had it replaced when it was running low.
She kept prodding my wife for what else she needed and when she mentioned we couldnt find Sun-In she bought it off property that day and billed it to our room.
I needed to mail a letter and asked Mejay where i could get a stamp. She took the letter and told me she'd buy the stamp and mail it. I gave her the money for the stamp and she found me letter to give me the receipt and change. Not a big deal but it made it easier when we were running late that morning.

We ran into a problem on Friday evening. We had bought tickets months ago to the Grand Gathering Illuminations dinner and fireworks. As you might have heard others say on here ( i read it somewhere) There was a huge lightning storm and heavy rain, that started around 3 or 4. The rain was so heavy , the lightning so frequent and the thunder was so close you could actually feel the building shake. We had the balcony doors open and would laugh at all the screams from the kids when the thunder would come. Not too funny, i guess but we couldnt help it.

I didnt know what to do because even though the monorail would get us there dry we'd have to walk to the odyssey restaurant which is behind test track near the water. With an infant, a 3, 6 and 9 year olfd and my friend who uses the electric wheelchair to get around i was hesitant about going. Id knew we'd get soaked and was worried about having the kids out in that storm.
I asked the concierge desk for some advice and they told me (after contacting Epcot which kept her on hold for a very long time and talking to Calvin from IPO) that any cancellations had to be done 6 days before the date and they wouldnt refund the money. The tickets cost over $400 for all of us and we didnt want to lose the money. By now it was 6:45 and dinner was at 7:30. We decided to try and get a cab and take our chances as the rain had started to lget lighter. Outside the GF there was no cabs to be found and we encountered a man who had already been waiting 25 minutes for a cab to show up. Thr rain started getting heavier again and we decided to cut our losses. I knew we'd be wet, then we'd probably feel cold in restaurant from being wet with the AC and then who knew if it would stop raining to go watch Illuminations at the reserved seating. We went back up, ordered room service and called it a night.
The next morning as we were headed to downtown Disney to shop Mejay was at the desk and when she saw us we heard her say to two other CMs
'this is the family from last night' She wasn;t even working last night but she knew the whole story and she told my wife she was working on getting us a full refund. Sure enough a few minutes later CM denny refunded our over $400.
It was nice to be treated so well and we spent that money at downtown disney.

The pools were great and were never crowded. At the most crowded time i counted maybe 30 people. We rented the cabana for a whole day and in hindsight we should have just done the morning. We had it until 7pm but by 5 we were ready to call it a day. Also in the late afternoon the sun is on the side of the monorail and shade isnt a problem then.

Frozen drinks at the pool were very tasty and we had some and walked down to the wedding pavillion and watched a bride arrive. ahhh memories....

The piano player and the band were wonderful to listen to and the music drifts down the hallways so we heard it as soon as we opened our room door.

Shopped in every store at the GF and each place had some very nice things. We went a bit crazy in the Bath Basin shop and spent close to $300 on soaps and other items. The two ladies working there were very friendly and when they saw how much soap we were buying offered thier employee discount to us which saved us at least $40. 99% of CMs at the resort and in the parks were great and the few who weren't didn't ruin anyones day but their own.

I took about 600 pics ( i hate digital cameras, i used to wind up with only 6 rolls of film) so it will take me a while to post.

There is more that I'll remember and post about later.
