Just bumping this up.

To me, Mizners looks like it's kind of staid and formal. I haven't seen kids in there when I've looked in, but maybe that's just when I've seen it. Because of what it looks like to me I never brought my kids in - therefore I have never been in it, either....just peeked in. Maybe others have kid experiences there? :confused3

Lives4Disney :)

I've been in Mizner's several times when kids were present, so they are most definitely welcome there. It is really not staid and formal at all. Maybe it is the same perception that others have of the GF. :confused3 Give it a try, they have some yummy drinks.:thumbsup2 Of course, if you were planning to spend hours in there the kids would get pretty bored.

I guess I have to clarify... I don't think the GF hotel is staid and formal at all.....just the look of Mizners was - the decor KWIM? It just doesn't look like a "kid place" at all to me. JMO. The Grand is very kid friendly, though - I KNOW! :goodvibes I just don't bring my kids in bars or lounges. That's just me. :upsidedow Mizners looked like an adult hangout.

I agree with the others about kids everywhere in the lobby listening/dancing to music.:thumbsup2 Do what you feel comfortable with.:confused3

Just back from the GF. It was pretty much perfect and I've fallen in love all over again... DD and I have decided that it's the only place for us from now on!! And, sadly, we will have to stay in the Main Building from now on

I will write more and share photos soon!

Oh - and I got my request for a turret room:cloud9:

Hooray for the turret room!!!!!! Can't wait to see pics! Welcome back!

We leave for our trip on Friday, and this will be our first (and probably only) time staying at GF. I called yesterday to order Tuxedo Strawberries and a Chocolate Mickey Statue (thanks Lives4Disney for all the helpful info!), and told them we were celebrating our 10th anniversary, and this trip is really a big deal for my DH and I.

This morning I received an email confirmation that I was staying at a Deluxe Room-King-Club Level (BP), which is NOT what I requested when I made the original reservation (which was for a Lagoon View-BG). The reservation number is the same, but the room rate is QUITE different.

I've called the reservation line, and they are not showing that they sent that email about the Deluxe room - only the original reservation, with the lower room rate.

Should I worry about this? If we are charged the higher room rate, my DH will freak.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I can see that they might have upgraded you, but they won't charge you a higher rate than your reservation. Take your reservation printout with you for proof, just in case things are mixed up in the computer. I think maybe another call is in order, maybe even to the club level planners (IPO). I periodically look up my reservation online. You might want to try that, too.

DisneyNotes - thank you so much for your prompt reply! Looking up my reservation number is something I can do on the Walt Disney World website, correct?

I've always just skipped over the IPO stuff, knowing that we would never stay conceige level. I don't even know what all is offered with that level.

Would GF upgrade someone that much? Sorry with all the questions, I feel like I sound so green, but we are DVC members and this is the first time we've ever stayed somewhere other than DVC or offsite.

Thank you again for any help.

With the current rehab, it is a possibility that they have upgraded you. Like DisneyNotes said, just take your original resevation in case they try to charge you for it.

Can you see the monorail from ALL RPC rooms? Are there any that you can't? Channing, anyone? Bueller?

No, not all of the RPC rooms view the monorail. All of the south facing rooms (towards the wedding pavillion and Poly) have a great view of the monorail. The only other rooms would be the ones above the marina facing the MK, but there the monorail is further away.

But in the areas in between just view the grounds of the GF.

Twingle - Go to Disneyworld.com and then go to my disney vacation near the top of the page. Make an account, if you don't have one. You can enter your reservation number in there to pull up your itinerary.

Yes, they could upgrade you that much. I don't know anything about DVC members though.

It could have just been an email mistake, too. I know you want to get it settled before check-in. Try the website, then try the main reservation number again, then try the IPO @ 1-407-824-1000. That will give you three places to cross reference.

Speaking of views of the monorail - here was ours:

Here is the desk and "The Chair" - which was actually just fine ;) .
This is a turret room - Deluxe King RPC Room in the Main Building:

Here is our lovely bed:
(The bedspreads are perfectly attractive in real life - there is a Tinkerbelle and some pixie dust... muted colors for sure but the redo looks good IMO)

DisneyNotes - thanks again for the help. The only reason I mentioned our DVC Membership is because when you make a reservation with DVC, there is no upgrade. You request a 2BR Villa, you get a 2BR Villa. Not having stayed in a Disney Resort, I did not know about upgrading. Also, thank you for the IPO phone number.

Brian - didn't even think about the room renovations, and how GF was placing guests. Thank you for reminding me.

Thanks again everyone, you're so helpful!

Here is the bed after turndown service, which we received every evening without asking. That is standard for all rooms at the GF, I know, but I have read reports here that some guests have not always rec'd it. (On the far left you can see our towel animal, sitting atop the iHome speaker system for your iPod. Awesome upgrade for the rooms!)
