That might be true however I am not 100% sure.

Brooke,

You might get a "standard view" in the Garden Wing and have a view of the Tower, the monorail and the parking lot:

If the choice is whether to stay in the CR or not, these are not bad at all. You are close to the Tower and can walk to the MK. I booked a standard view in the Garden Wing and received Room 6108 (lower floor) garden wing in the CR. The patio of Room 6108:

This is the view a few steps off the patio.

And then, looking straight out the patio door, you see the canal where the ferries, friendship boats and other water craft cross.

(If this is a standard view room either I or Disney don't know what that term means. :goodvibes ) And for those who noticed, please forgive the cross posting. I thought this thread would appreciate seeing the pictures.

We stayed in a room with this view and it was lovely. Note the lone duck on the grass...the photographer must have lured away the others because we experienced many, many ducks all hanging out together. Don't try to sit on the patio and eat, because Disney ducks are very hungry and make their intentions known! It didn't bother us though. It's a lovely spot to relax.

In fact, we greatly enjoyed the many ducks, Anhingas, Great Egrets (or is the white form of the Great Blue Heron) and other water foul all throughout the property.

jcb, your patio on the ground floor looked private....was that a deluxe room?

Also...is the daybed a full size twin.....would adults be comfortable
Thanks
Kerri

I can't say whether it was deluxe or not. I booked a standard view and got extremely lucky. :cheer2: From the size of the room, my guess is it is a deluxe.

It was a "private" patio probably because it was on the end corner of the garden wing. If you look at the contemporary map, we were on the upper right corner. The room had two queen size beds but no day bed. This was probably because there was a window on the only wall where it could have been located.

We got a Bay Lake view when the North Garden Wing was still open – a fabulous view. In the morning I'd enjoy coffee while watching the fog roll over the lake; in the evening an alcoholic beverage while listening to the loons. It's hard to believe you're at Disney.

Quick question~ I have read before that people have been bumped from the MK view for different reasons..is there any truth to that? I booked my MK view months ago for my kiddies surprise trip and I would be livid if I was bumped....;)

I don't remember reading anything about people getting bumped from that view and if it ever did happen, then it's one of those things which rarely when the Resort made a mistake. So you should have nothing to worry about and maybe what you read was those guests getting upgrades to the 12th or 14th floor Club Level floors in the Tower.

When we went back to the CR last night, they had the entire area between the guard tower and entrance to the CR completely blocked off and tons of bulldozers. It was a pretty big area. I couldn't find anyone who knew what was going on. It would be from the side entrance (where the busses load) towards the front (MK) almost to the edge of the parking lot.

We're at the CR now (DH and I). The construction you saw was a landscaping project. A smaller area is still blocked off and we were told it's to be expanded parking to accommodate the guests who'll be staying in the new tower. I took photos I'll post when I have the time.

Thanks for that update.

Whew... what a long, great read today! I'm hoping for some info I didn't see covered in this thread (or in my searches).

I'm debating between the Garden Wing Standard View, the Garden Wing Garden View, and the garden view at Poly. The rack rate difference between the GW Standard view and GW Garden view is about $400 for a 7 day trip. But I just can't figure out what the garden view would be (and whether it would be worth $400) ... is that a beautiful garden, just lawn, trees, pool, or what? Are there nice rooms that are "standard" or are all of the parking lot/brick wall? Because I'm not spending my dream vacation looking at a parking lot or wall!

So, when you check in and find out your room, do they assign the nicer rooms in the category based on who checks in first or who reserved first?

Is there some lobby/sitting area in the Garden Wing? I'm a night owl and would probably need to leave my room to sit somewhere and read a book/web surf. But I don't really want to leave the Garden Wing late at night.

Thanks for any answers!

I don't think there is anything like that in the South Garden Wing.

That's a bummer! :( You know, I should ask... is there somewhere in the Tower that would be fine for hanging out late night? I'm on West Coast time, so I wonder how I'll do with going to bed so early. I can't see myself going to bed before 12am PST /3am EST. :sad2: I don't know what I'll do with myself... LOL

I guess you could always sit in the lobby and if a Cast Member or WDW security came up to you just say your staying at the Contemporary and show them your KTTW card. Another option if you were willing to stay Club Level on the 12th or 14th floor, you could sit in the lounge when the Cast Members are gone for the evening. Of course the lights would be off, but access to the lounge is never blocked off.

I'm debating between the Garden Wing Standard View, the Garden Wing Garden View

If you haven't, you should look at post 7 in http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1814797 for a picture of a "garden view" at the Garden Wing. At the time you'll be there, it probably won't be all flowers and the like (but it is still nice). I think the best advice is that if you think it will matter to you (and it sounds like it will) go ahead and spend the money for a garden view room.

I agree with CR4L that there is no lobby seating area in the Garden Wing itself. Perhaps you would find the Tower is so close it isn't a big deal to go "outside" to it. There is a covered walkway and, unlike most any other resort at WDW, the walk outdoors is brief. Consider specifically requesting a ground floor room. That way you could be a night owl on your patio.

I am pretty sure rooms are not assigned on a first to arrive basis. Reservations come in different length stays so the resort has to schedule room around the different arrival times, among other things.

I hope you enjoy yourself.

I would say that is correct.

Thanks for that advice! The scheduling of rooms makes sence, I hadn't thought about it that way.

We were there at the beginning of April and we had booked a MK view room in the tower and when we checked in they "asked " us if we would mind switching to a Bay Lake view and I said politely that we would rather not due to this being my step son's 13th Birthday. She picked up the phone and talked to someone and said that we said no and was put in a MK view room. I think they were having a convention though so maybe they had rooms sold out for this view but we had booked far in advance and I could tell I was getting mad that they asked but they were very understanding of why we wanted to keep the room. We received a birthday card, chocolates and balloons the next morning in the room and also had a chocolate monorail that evening. I guess they could tell I was upset. I still LOVE the CR!!
