OMG!! We miss those voices too!! As a matter of fact on our last visit we tried to imitate some of the old sayings as we got on and off the elevator!!
They will surely never bring them back because the CR is trying to get away from the "family friendly" atmosphere and take on a more "business class" image ...BUMMER:( ( IMHO).

Did Concourse Steak close yesterday? Is the Wave Open as of now? And when will Chef Mickey's Express be open?
Yes the Concourse Steakhouse is closed, The Wave is opening on June 7th for dinner and June 8th for breakfast, lunch and dinner and so far nothing has changed with Chef Mickey's Express, so let's hope it will open on August 14th.

Hey Everyone!

Just found this thread..didn't know there was one totally dedicated to the Contemporary..COOL!:cool1:

We'll be there Dec.30th - Jan.5th...Tower..MK View!! This will be our first ever New Years trip, and I couldn't think of a better place to stay.

We haven't stayed at the Contemporary in years (don't really know why!:confused3 ) , but it used to be our very favorite Resort.

Has THE best view in all the World..IMHO! What could be better than falling asleep with Cinderella Castle as your nightlight?:goodvibes

Anybody here ever been for New Years Eve?

From my understanding..the parks are WAY crowded, but we've been enough times that I think we'll be totally OK just enjoying the festivities!
I am hoping that things may at least slow down a little sometime before we leave so we can get in a few rides/shows.

Oh..and does anybody else miss the character voices in the elevator?:rotfl:

I know I'm a super dork..but I really wish they would change that back!
My family and I have stayed there a few times for New Years Eve and while it was busy, it was great watching the fireworks at 12:00 AM from our room and not having to fight the crowds at the Magic Kingdom during that time.

I also do miss the character voices in the elevators, however they have been gone for a while that I start to forget about them because now I am use to not hearing them.

CR Resort Fan 4 Life or anyone else, what is the significance of the painting in the main concourse? You know, the whale, little indian kids and the five legged goat on the concrete wall inside/center of the Contemporary?

In addition, please tell me they haven’t moved the Outer Rim yet.

MJ

I remember one of my friends was telling me about the painting, so the next time I speak with him I will ask about it.

As for the Outer Rim I have not heard anything about it moving, unless someone else knows something I don't.

The Outer Rim is said to be moving in January to the area where the current Grab & Go is and will be much smaller.

The mosaic (it isn't a painting) was done by Mary Blair, a designer who worked on a lot of Disney projects including the original Small World at the New York World's Fair in 1964. It was in keeping with the original theme of the Concourse -- the American southwest. The Concourse was originally called the Grand Canyon Concourse and the restaurants all had western sounding names (such as Terrace Buffeteria, Pueblo Room, Coconino Cove).

Here some more information about it that I saw on Wikipedia.

Among the stylized denizens of the mosaic is a five-legged goat. It is located on the "monorail" side of the mosaic and is best viewed from the seventh and eighth floors. Disney "cast members" report that the extra limb was an intentional addition, meant to express the belief that no man-made creation is perfect.

Are their two "levels" of club rooms? If so, can you tell me the differences? Also, we are planning on staying here before our Aug 2009 Disney Cruise.
When would you suggest be the best time to book a club level room, as I don't think I can do it now as 2009 rates are not out yet,at least it would not let me book it online. Do folks usually have trouble (booking fast) getting a club level room? We have always wanted to stay here, but never have, and I thnk we will make it this time..:)
Thanks for your help and comments?

If you look at the 1st post by Denise (triplefigs) I wrote the differences between the two Club Level floors, which she also edited a little bit. Anyway here it is.

On the 12th Floor Concierge, the Atrium Club, both the MK View and Bay Lake View are by request only and cannot be guaranteed. If the MK View is your top priority, you may be better off booking a standard MK View room in the Tower.

With the Tower Club there are a total of 16 rooms, 5 standard rooms and 11 suites: 1 & 2 Bedroom Suites, a Vice Presidential Suite and a Presidential Suite. With the standard rooms, there is no guarantee of a Magic Kingdom or Bay Lake View. However with the Suites , you will be booked into a particular room which will indicate Magic Kingdom or Bay Lake. You will be guaranteed to have that specific room view. There are 4 Standard Magic Kingdom view rooms and 1 standard Bay Lake View room on the 14th floor.

The lounge on the 12th floor is bigger with more seating then the 14th floor concierge lounge. They converted 3 standard rooms into the 12th floor lounge, so there are 3 balconies available on the MK side for all Concierge guests to watch the fireworks. The lounge on the 14th floor also offers seating outside on the balcony, which is something that is not offered on the 12th floor lounge.

Finally both floors serve the exact same foods for breakfast, afternoon snacks, 5:00 PM hors d'oeuvres and 8:00 PM deserts & cordials. The 12th floor Atrium Club is less expensive then the 14th floor Tower Club, even though on both floors offer the exact same service. The 14th floor is more expensive because fewer number of total rooms and Suites.

Besides that I would say if you have the chance to make a reservation for either floor you should do it now, because these floors can sell out very fast even if your calling many months away for a reservation.

Thank you! You mentioned where the current grab and go is. Do you mean on the first floor near the check in desk? Or do you mean where the new Contemp snack area near the existing outer rim / chef Mickey’s restaurant?

Thanks,

mj

Thanks so much for the info for my family and we always go with DU with our trips. We have had the best luck with them and they are on top of everything. We just booked CR concierge for Sept 5-7th and we are going with no kids! I am celebrating my birthday when we go, so I am really excited. I keep checking back with them and we might have to change our trip from Dec. 5-7th to Dec.12-14th, so CR fan , we might be seeing each other there.:yay:

with the wave opening the beginning of June do they not start taking ADRs until the official opening. I thought the opening was June 30th?

For whatever reason the opening was changed to June 7th. As for the ADR's I remember reading for the 1st few weeks they would only be taking guests as walk-ins only, with the ADR's beginning on June 30th. So maybe that's what happening unless I am wrong.

I am so excited, going to stay at cr for 1 night, i can scratch that off of my bucket list now :) i always stay at one of the values and could only get 5 nights there not the 6ths, so splurged since i will be turning 50 in the my favorite place on earth woo hoo!! anyway can someone tell me if there is an age or weight restriction for the pool slides. I know my son is probably too old, but would still like to do it, and me too LOL.
Thanks
