The New Caribbean Beach FAQ Part VII

Hi Everyone. I am new to the DIS and this is my first post. I have only been to WDW once when I was younger and am starting to plan a future trip for my family. I am so overwhelmed! I can't believe how many resorts there are! I don't even know where to start! I am thinking that we "might" be able to afford a moderate, and if so, it think I like CBR the best so far. What are some advantages of staying at CBR versus the other moderates? I like the decor and pool area. What else is there to compare? If we can't afford a moderate, I like AOA. Any comparisons? Why is CBR one of your favorites? I also love the looks of the Poly if we can afford it, but I haven't even looked at prices yet since this is just a though right now. Is there a huge difference in price between CBR and say the Poly? There was a thread earlier in this forum that didn't last very long, so I want to ask what other resorts you have stayed at and how do they compare to CBR?

Thanks!

please see my response in post #1999, hit the wrong button by accident. It's been a long week, thank goodness tomorrow is Friday

we have stayed at 15 resorts (incl. the DOlphin, which isn't disney owned, but on property). we love them all and the one that is our favorite changes all the time.
how old are your kids? the theming at the values is great for kids. but there is no slide at the pools. the pool at POFQ is small, there is only one and the slide is kind of a baby slide. the thing about AOA is that allt he rooms are suites except of Little Mermaid . and the suties cost more than the moderate rooms. the LM rooms are a long walk to the bus stop, food court, but does have it's own pool. AOA has 3 pools, as does POP. the all stars all have 2 pools.
all the moderates (except FQ) have one feature pool and several smaller "quiet" pools.
another option to look into is renting DVC points (there is a rental section on the DVC board here on the DIS)
a good way to check out the reosrts is to look at Allearsnet.com. click on WDW, then On Accommadations. there are slides shows and pictures and a map of each resort as well as rack room rates.
neve [pay rack rate unless you are getting "free" dining. if there are no room only discounts out, as least ask for a AA discount (you do not have to book THROUGH AA to get the discount.. not all resorts will have rooms available for all discounts. also check out Mousesavers.com. subscribe to their monthy newsletter, which has extra discounts.
have fun planning!!!!!

I didn't even get into what time to go. again, how old are your kids. I highly recommend takking them out of school if they are younger and going during slower times. try not to go in mid summer, Christams week, or spring break. early dec is good for prices, crowds, and all the christmas stuff. but not always good for weather. (one year we froze) . some people like cooler weather and go in january or feb. (stay away from president's weekend, tho) we like sept or oct. and april and may (not spring break!!!)

you might want to pick up a copy of the Unoffical Guide to Disneyworld!

As requested, photos of the fire pit on Martinique beach and the movie area at OPR.

Driving to Old Port Royale, I could see that Deb123 was right and the beach/benches in Trinidad South would have a perfect view of the fireworks!

Also, double checked the parking lots in Aruba. There were a handful of cars by buildings 56 & 54, and an almost full lot by building 51.

I'm here for another four days, so if anyone would like pictures of anything else, please let me know!

Could you get a picture of the storage for the rooms? How big are the draweres, etc?

Also if there is a way to find out, what did they end up doing bed wise to the wheel chair acc rooms that used to have a king and a double? Do they now have 2 queens?

Happy Friday everyone! I just wanted to say that I am going to be off the boards for the next 10 days on vacation. :cool1:  I will update the Beach Bum Roll Call with any new friends when I return. I will also attempt to reply to any unanswered questions. Although I'm sure the very helpful members here will take care of that.

bellebookworm9 - Thank you very much for the great pictures. I will post copies or links to page #1 when I return. I hope you enjoy the rest of your stay!

"See" you all in 10 days! :wave2:

Definitely missing being in "The World" this week! Walking on my treadmill is not as peaceful as walking around CBR watching the sun rise!! We will be back soon though as we'll be enjoying F&W for a month this yr! :) Thank you again Mickeystoontown for posting the pictures for me. I wanted to let you know the room number was 4341. It was 2nd floor, and we loved the location! So close to the bus stop!

Today I am doing the SDD!! I am so excited about our first trip! I feel like I have planned just enough to still be able to be spontaneous.

Being back in the real world is the pits. You are right, the treadmill ain't got nothin' on the CBR promenade. :rotfl:

I was more than happy to post the pictures. Thank you for sending them so that I could share.

They were still coin operated machines in May/June, 2014 when I used them. There were coin machines in each laundry facility too.

to be safe I'll bring quarters. Every time I've did laundry on past trips the change machine was out, so I was glad that I brought my own. I was reading another thread talking about Laundry and other resorts are replacing the coin run machines with ones that take CCs.

:thumbsup2 I know that some of the resorts changed out their machines but I haven't read that the CBR has yet.

The information just came out a few days ago. Seems it was a fairly last-minute addition to the refurbishment schedule.
I am actually pretty ticked off too on this one, one of the reasons I booked this over others was the kiddie pool play area since I have a 4 year old and she would love that. I am going to call, not that it will do much good, but I am going to call :)

I'm right there with you. I upgraded from a value because of the kiddie pool. Also have a 4 year old grandson. I'm thinking I may need to complain. I only upgraded 2 weeks ago with a CM on phone. I was very clear about the 4 year old. I should have been told about the kiddie pool being unavailable.

Thanks for letting me vent.
