We arrived today....after driving through the pour rain for almost an hour the sky stopped dripping two exits before Disney, lol.

We are in Oak Manor....and it's gorgeous and everything this Northern Girl loves about Southern Hospitality! The kids were just oooh and ahhing over every little touch as we came on property and were running around the room exclaiming over every little thing.

We loved POP Century last week for all it's fun and color......but the romantic in me feels much more "at home" here in Riverside.

Have a great time! I hope you'll post some pics later.:)

Have a magical trip!! Enjoy every minute!

Just booked June 27- July 6 at POR. We've stayed there several times and love it because it is soooo relaxing! This will be a combined 25th anniversary trip for DH and me, and a graduation trip for my DD(17). She graduates HS on June 26th!

I'll be at POR next week (11th-15th) for MouseFest and am wondering about corner rooms in Alligator Bayou.

For some reason I have it stuck in the back of my brain that the corner rooms are the "king bed" rooms. Is that correct?

I can't find that info anywhere now..but I did a bit of researching on POR in 2007 before our stay there so I could have read it at that time.

Our room request went in w/ our reservation a few months ago... I was just wondering in case I can ask for one upon check in.

I don't want a "king" room and I don't want to sound stupid when I'm at the desk!

We had a corner room and it was a king but we booked a king room so that's why we got that. I doubt you'd get a king room unless you booked a king room or if they were upgrading you for some reason, but in that case you'd be able to tell them no thanks.

I was actually thinking of asking for a corner room upon check in...but don't want to do so if the corner rooms are only "king" rooms.

Does that make sense?

The room request info that we had our TA enter w/ our reservation was:

Close to the main building/main bus stop
Alligator Bayou
Buildings 18 or 14

I stayed in building 18 last December and it was great!

Gotcha! I don't know if all of the corner rooms are kings. When we stayed at POFQ we also had a king corner room so I don't know if that was just a coincidence or not.

There are some king rooms that are corner rooms, but by no means all. There are more corners than kings! :) Hope you get your request.

Do they still offer
Campfire on de' Bayou?

Yes, it's seasonal (runs until end of Feb) and only on Thursdays and Sundays though.

Andre

oooh do tell about the Campfire?? :) popcorn::

OK, shamelessly cribbing from www.portorleans.org (but I'm allowed :) )

Campfire on de’ Bayou

Enjoy stories and family sing-a-longs while making your own s’mores around an evening campfire. The campfire location is behind the Muddy Rivers pool bar on Ol’ Man Island, just next to the children’s playground. The event is free, and optional s’mores kits (including Graham crackers, marshmallows, chocolate and sticks) are available for purchase for $7.

This is a relatively new seasonal activity and in 2007/08 it took place from November to February on Sunday and Thursday evenings from 6:30pm until 8pm.

The campfire is again available on Sundays and Thursdays (6:30pm-8pm, weather dependent) from 31 October 2008 until March 2009.

Hello all,
Here's my family's conundrum, mansions or the alligator bayou? Is there any other difference other than decor? We are campers by nature so I'm thinking AB. Any and all opinions would be awesome.

Not really any major differences other than decor and theme, the amenities provided in all of the rooms are identical. AB rooms have the pull-out trundle beds for a fifth person to sleep, and also AB buildings are smaller, only two stories tall and thus don't have elevators.

From your comments though, the AB theming sounds perfect for you.

When I go in April, my kids will be 10, 8, 6 and a newborn. There is also my husband and I. How much longer will be allowed to stay at POR...until the baby turns 3? I'm really worried about pricing once we can't stay at this resort anymore. I can't afford the deluxe resorts and I don't want a family suite at ASM....my kids like the slides and my husband won't like the theming. And I'll miss POR!!!

Sadly, yes. Unless you leave your husband at home anyway...

Your next best best (other than two rooms or a suite) would be a Fort Wilderness cabin I think. Make the most of the next three years!
