the nerve of some people...

So during my last trip i had the following two experiences:

While walking back to our room at POP Century, we were walking behind some folks when we encountered a woman coming through on the path with her ECV. She didn't appear to have anything wrong with her so the people in front of me started up a conversation about how people only get ECV's so they can get to the front of the line on buses and on the rides. I didn't even bother arguing with them - people that ignorant aren't worth my time.

My next bout with idiocy came on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. The guy in front of us started taking flash photos right away after the ride told us not to. After he snapped a couple more, the CM monitoring the ride interrupted the soundtrack and reminded everyone that there is no flash photography permitted on the rides. Disregarding the warning, he continued to take more. I decided to sternly tell him, "HEY no flash photography." Did he stop? Nope. My wife smartly said, "I don't think he heard you." He turned around and said, "Yes, I heard him" and continued taking pictures. I had to stop myself from grabbing his camera and throwing it into the water. I just don't get what's with the "I'm above the rules" mentality people have when visiting the park. Like, I paid so many dollars for this trip so I'm above the rules or something. Grr!

I once spent two days of my Disney vacation in the room with a stomach virus. On my first day back in the parks, I got an ECV due to being severely dehydrated and weak from the virus. Did I have a permanent injury? No. Did I need the ECV? Absolutely. I wasn't about to waste another day of my vacation just because I was too weak to walk to all of the attractions.

As for the POTC experience, it would have been nice if the CM monitoring the ride had notified security and had him escorted from the park as soon as he stepped off of the ride. Or at least confiscated his film. Maybe if he knew he couldn't keep the pics, he wouldn't be so eager to take them next time.

I agree. This type of behavior is commonplace, and becoming more so. :sad2: It's too bad that it's infecting WDW so much, but at least each of us can try to set the good example. Hopefully most will follow.

Don't let the others drag you down! :sunny:

Tim, who is shocked at the outright "above the rules" mentality displayed by so many. He can't believe how many deliberate red-light runs he sees nowadays! :furious:

Well, I can tell you the response to the "handicapped" situation. It's happened twice to me with perfectly "normal" looking men. My husband the first time and my father the second time. They could walk but not far and not fast and not very easily. The response back to those rude folks would have been "there's absolutely no reason to rent a wheelchair just for head of the line stuff because it doesn't really exist anymore". Trust me, some of the wheelchair seating we got wasn't all that great.

The guy with the camera was just an idiot. Maybe you could have taken your own flash camera and aimed it directly in his face and taken his picture. Blinded him. I know, I'm evil.

As for the people not being sympathetic about the people in the motorized scooters, good for you for ignoring their ignorance! Sometimes people have diseases or handicaps (such as my parents bf has MS and you'd never know it and needs a wheelchair) that aren't always noticeable! So good for you for not joining! Also, Disney is trying to make the queue (did I spell that right? :confused3) more wheelchair friendly so EVERYONE can enjoy the queue scenery effort.

Also, next time that happens to you on any ride, let a CM know that works the ride. A lot of times they will be happy to give you a fastpass for the ride or let you on the ride again. It's a shame some people think they're "too good" for the rules. The Dean of a college I went to, thought he was "too good" for filling out his US Citizen papers and got deported!! Even people in high positions are never "too important" for rules! :thumbsup2

I feel your pain. On our last trip we had the same thing happen with a family in the seats behind us. You would just get your eyes adjusted to the dark and then be blinded **Flash**. I certainly hope their pictures turned out fabulous because I was seeing spots for a long time after. We did tell the CMs at the end but it didn't make a difference... the ride was also halted to repeat the message but they just didn't care. I can't imagine that the other family members weren't annoyed enough to say "Hey stop!" I know if my DH had been flashing the camera messing with my eyes I'd have stopped him. I just like to think that perhaps they needed the pictures so badly because they will never be back and I can always see it next time. :rotfl2:

This reminds me of the group of girls that sat in front of us on PotC. They kept chatting, loudly, about how it was all so fake, etc. Moaning and groaning about it, which was starting to spoil the ride for my young daughters. My first request to "please stop talking so loudly" worked for about 10 seconds, then they started up again. I got out my mean old lunch lady voice and said "ENOUGH!" That stopped them, LOL!

My mother and I were on POTC and some guy behind us was actually leaning in between us to get pictures. We were in the front row and he was in the 2nd row....apparently shots from the side of the boat weren't good enough.

After the 4th time, my mother looked right in his face - nose to nose - and yelled, "Stop doing that!" He slumped back in his seat and didn't make a peep the rest of the ride. My mother is 5' tall and weighs about 100lb soaking wet. :goodvibes

that would have been awesome if you had thrown his camera. I would have loved to do that !!!! :lmao: :rotfl2:

That HAS to be a typo. You may want to report it to the web admin.

I can understand attractions not allowing flash photography when there are people performing on stage, but not allowing it for animated attractions is something I just don't understand. What can it hurt? They allow it for "It's a Small World", why not "Pirates of the Caribbean"?

I can see being annoyed if someone is trying to take a picture over your shoulder or something, but if someone is sitting on a side and taking pictures that way, not bothering anyone else, what's the problem?

Small World is generally pretty well lit so the flash probably wouldn't bother folks. POTC, on the other hand, is pretty dark so the flash would be disturbing. I think it has to do with other guests' experience and comfort.

This thread reminds me of something that happened on Pirates on my last trip last week. I was with a friend, a cast member, and we were enjoying the attraction when the very large family in front of us all whipped out their camers and started taking pictures. I don't mind one or two photos to tell the truth. But this was like the paparazzi outside of the Academy Awards! Couldn't see a thing but the flashflashflashflash!

The ride was stopped and a voice came over to tell them to stop. One of the husbands just grunted that it was a general recording for eve ryone and not directed at them so they kept it up. So... flashflashflash. I expected Brad and Angelina to step off the red carpet for an interview with Joan/Skeletor any second.

My buddy that I was with couldnl't take it. He whipped out his management cast member ID and said loudly while waving it at the family, "That notice was directed at all of YOU! Please refrain from flash photography immediately!" He was so polite... but really loud.

Ever see an entire family bug their eyes out at the same time? Hysterical!

One day admission to Magic Kingdom: $55.00

One burger with fries and a soda: $94.38

Riding with a cast member who has some pull: Friggin' priceless

Too funny! Good job!

I wish people wouldn't abuse the ECV privelege. If you HAVE to have it that's one thing, but if you're just using it to get to the front of the line or whatever..Ugh.

I can honestly say I say this from experience. While on our honeymoon at WDW, the very first day something wierd happened and my feet swelled up to the size of basketballs and turned bright purple. I was unable to walk for the remainder of the trip and DH pushed me in a wheelchair. I can't believe how many stares/comments I got and I was so embarrassed but I wasn't about to let funky feet ruin our trip.

Why would they wait on the line for a ride that was "so fake" and that you would just talk through anyway? I don't get that. I also have a pet peeve with people taking flash pictures on dark rides. It really ruins it for everyone else. The higher than thou mentality has really got to stop.

How about when you stake out a spot and wait for over an hour for Spectro and Wishes and the people who didn't keep trying to encringe on your space? People were doing that to me. I was sitting behind another couple on the sidewalk on Main Street. The rope wasn't up yet but it was going to be right behind me. After the rope was put up a group of adults came and squeezed themselves between my back and the rope! It was hot and sticky out and now I had them breathing down my neck. I spread out all my belongings and claimed back my personal space. Sorry but I was there for over an hour, you came at the last 5 minutes.
