I wondered about our town's historic society. That might be worth looking into...

Mystic is about an hour away. I wish it was closer; I really like the Seaport. And the Aquarium has that Titanic/Bob Ballard area. I'd love to be able to see that more often!

I was Filbert (hazelnut). I just took my entire sig out because I got upset because of people saying that I'm mean and creepy and I remembered that I was told that here, too. Of course, they're people who don't speak to me...

As far as the online site...well, today I'm all excited. I got contacted yesterday by a guy...I think I'm already in love  The thing is, I answered profile questions like "What are you passionate about?" with "reading, learning, ancient history, traveling..." I mentioned that I have almost 500 books in my library, that in my leisure time I read and watch my "geek" channels, etc. Okay, so the guy who contacted me yesterday - he's a high school history teacher who says he's passionate about "nerdy academic things like history and philosophy..." He's also into the arts, he likes to read for fun and travel to see new places...

This could be a good match! I can just see it now...The Geek and the Goth... :teeth:

Wow! Am eagerly looking forward to the Geek & Goth meet!

I think you absolutely did the right thing being forthright about yr interests.
No use wading through a bunch a guys that have no respect for the things that mean so much to you.
I can't see why people fudge on those qustionaires, waste of time.

So good for you Liz! :woohoo:

Huge rant this morning...how long ago did we get those new shutters on our house? The old ones have been sitting in the garage ever since...on my side...I have a Hyundai Sonata, which is kind of a large car...

Well, I've had a hard time getting my car in and out of the space without hitting them or the lawn mower (that's another story). This morning...I couldn't get out at all without taking the stupid things out. The passenger side of my car is completely scraped and dented (gold car, white shutters) and even the tire has white all over it! Plus, it bent the sensor for the garage door and it wouldn't close (and I can't close it manually). My mother just shrugged and walked away. I went through the yellow pages and the internet and found a place to take them and have been asking her every week, "Can we please take those shutters to the scrap metal place?" And she never feels like it. Now my car is damaged.

Happy Freaking Monday.

:surfweb: :coffee: :bored:

Okay, so I hope you guys aren't hearing false rumours about me and avoiding me because of it...

:rotfl:

Sorry about the shutters attacking yr car Liz!
I hear ya about people not wanting to take construction debris to the dump!:headache:

I have been off to the Fairies most days & at the museum it's the height of the season.
We're restructuring the bylaws (major, major yawn), coordinating w/the middle school, it's my turn to arrange volunteer hours and the poor house is falling apart due to lack of contracted state funding.:rolleyes1
On the bright side I think someone has a little something to donate

We'll be taking off the front portico to my house (it's not large, a Georgian style thing, but it's NOT period!), so all that garbage will be adorning our yard you can bet. I'm trying to save the columns for the garden but DH is being stubborn.

We just got in 2 cords of seasoned wood & have to stack it behind the house now, as people are getting their wood stolen.
We need 5 more cords & the price for seasoned is now well over $200 for split. We only need 1 more seasoned & the rest will be green.

Looks like Patrick will be doing a lot of splitting! ;)

Oh, & there's no pre-buy with our oil company this year: OMG!!!
So this year we are closing off the top floor tight (as opposed to just shutting off registers & doors) & sleeping downstairs (yech!)

Are you getting all the rain & overcast?
We've had 2 sunny days here in a row & I'm gobsmacked! It seems like it's been raining & thundering at least part of every day for the last few weeks.
Let's hope the sun is here for awhile!

I've been busy!
Hey, I didn't even jump in with the mushroom cookie jars!

Oh my Lord, Jean, my head is spinning from all that! No wonder you haven't been here!

I miss you, though!

I can't believe it's almost time already to start thinking about winter. I am not ready. My mother is talking about needing to find a new coat and boots for herself...

Yep, it's been raining here on and off. And it's actually been cold! I don't mind the rain, really, but the cold I do. Winter lasts long enough, it doesn't need to start early.

Well, I do have a little news...nothing finalized yet, but guess who's finally been asked out for coffee... :rolleyes1

Well, you know how humid it can get in September & October, so I am not taking the AC down just yet. ;)
But yes, this gloom & rain are turning my thoughts toward autumn!

Hey! I'm :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: ove the coffee thing!

See, that's what's freaking me out - it's cold now, but for as long as I can remember, it's been hot through October here! And on the flip side, I often need to keep the heat on and I wear sweats until mid-June...

I have been thinking, though, that I can't wait to wear my Jack Skellington jacket again, and I've been listening to The Nightmare Before Christmas soundtrack once in a while! Also, my mother just bought her first Halloween-themed scrub top for work today.

I'm totally psyched about meeting this guy, too...as well as very nervous. First of all, there's my driving phobia, but I think to be fair, we should meet in the middle. However, he wants to meet next weekend, but I won't have a car! I haven't answered back because I'm actually going to ask my mother if she'd be willing to drive me, if he doesn't mind meeting at the place I'm thinking of... (I know, that's really bad to have my mother drive, but I don't want him to think I'm weaseling out on him).

I did buy a nice new sweater at Kohl's yesterday...with our "first date" in mind!

Have Mom park waaaaay down the street or have her drive you just so far then take a taxi?

I am sooo depressed today. Life changes on the way :sad2:

Jean...take me to Bora Bora. K?

Time for the obligatory drive-by PJ post!!!

I am thinking once I get a couple of paychecks I can afford to get the old laptop fixed or get a new one or somethin. FIRST PAYCHECK COMES FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :dance3: :yay: :woohoo: :cool1:

School has been going well. Most of my little buggers are great kids and we have no problems. I of course have the high maintenance kids, but I've been laying down the law. Mostly I am just TIRED!!!! I have no idea how I taught all day last year and then went to class all night AND kept up with class work. Can I just say I am glad those days are gone?

I miss you guys and I hope to be around more once I have a computer in my apartment!!!! Hope everyone's doing well.
:grouphug:

So now you're saying you want a hug, too? Oy!!! Did I not just tell you I was busy? Sheesh, some people. Here you go, Jean, just for you....

I have 2nd and 3rd graders. All together in my room. 27 of the little darlings. Maximum class size in this district is 24. When they go over the max they give you 3 options. I can either have 3 kids removed, get additional pay, or get a second aide in the room. I have been pondering my choices. :scratchin

And yes, I have one friend at this school teaching 1st and 2nd graders and another friend in the district but not at this school. It has been so absolutely wonderful to have my friend at the school with me. We definitely rely on each other a lot for support...that first week was kinda rough.

Okay, I'm rambling. See what you've done??

Pj, do you know Liz was around here...
She just said Cheeze Whiz like cockroaches, Twinkies & Keith Richards will still be around til the end of time! :rotfl2:

That's a tough decision: money, extra help or ankle biter removal...

Welcome to "real life" PJ!

I dunno. I've always kind of enjoyed bites of various forms. :rolleyes1
