I was at our local plaza, aka, strip mall, the other day to pick up a few things and a local group home van pulled up to the curb near me in front of a salvation army red kettle. the doors opened and out pops a little fellow of about 50, nervous, eyes darting about. it was obvious that he was challenged. the others in the van took him to the salvation army kettle and handed him two hand bells and started giving him instructions as to how the next 3 or 4 hours was going to go. after a couple minutes they stepped back and he gave them a demo. he started jumping up and down ringing the bells and shouting merry christmas to all that passed. i walked on feeling pity for this fellow who was so obviously limited. i did my business in the plaza and about 45 minutes later walked back the same way and our little bell ringer was still at it, jumping up and down smiling, yelling merry christmas to everyone whether they dropped a coin in the kettle or not. as i watched, the pity i had felt began to change. at first i thought it was envy because this man had but one task to worry about and he was doing a bang up job of it. then i realized what it actually was........joy........if only i (we) could pour all our heart and soul into what we do, how much better off would we all be................Merry Christmas..............and ring on my man............ring on.

Awww, that's lovely - it's so nice to see people happy in what they're doing.

I saw this on the news a while ago - http://news.bbc.co.uk/local/bristol/hi/things_to_do/newsid_8370000/8370025.stm

The community as a whole wanted this guy to switch on the lights for the town rather than the usual B/C list celeb that was available - it brought a smile to my face and made me realise there is still hope in the human race :goodvibes (with some things you see/hear about it does make you wonder)

Merry Christmas to all - keep that joy in your heart this season :santa:

Thanks for sharing the story about the bell ringer.

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate it.

Happy and cheery winter days to all!
