I love Sea World but haven't been there in years. I remember the seal & walrus show. I think the name was Clyde and something. I loved the mime as he was always so funny until he has making fun of me when I was walking.

Yes, you could buy fish to feed the dolphins. We were cheap and didn't buy any...just stationed our kids close to people who did.

So glad you decided to tame things down after the James in Atlantis debacle!! Hopefully he was all ok with this one! Anyway, sounds like he was- unless he's developed a lifelong fear of clowns or killer whales. All I can say is thank Goodness that unfortunate accident of the trainer getting killed didn't happen during your show! That would have been even worse than being freaked out on the Wet, Dark and Scary ride.



Don't you love those walk through aquariums?? We went to the one in Pigeon Forge (Ripleys) a couple years ago, and we all LOVED it!!


The Budweiser DONKEY???!!! What happened to gigantic, stately Clydesdales?? The crisis hit Budweiser pretty hard too? Some downsizing going on??

Remind me again where you stayed this trip? POR right?? So, all that fishy smelling gunk from their hands went into Ol' Man Island? J/K, I'll bet you guys made them wash up really well, so you didn't have to have them stinking up the car on the way home. Mine would have just wiped their hands on their shirts... at least Zach would have.

One of the funniest moments actually occurred before the show. There was a mime down at the front, between the seats and the stage, and as people would enter he’d follow them and mimic them. I know it’s pretty juvenile humor, but it was hilarious. People would come in and take a few steps and shade their eyes to look for an empty seat and he’d be right behind them doing the same, and they had no idea.

At first I'm thinking, "Oh how JUVENILE, Glennbo." But then I must admit that it was rather amusing. I love to laugh at others.

Sometimes the kids and I would do it at the dinner table, after we got home from the trip. I liked to think that I played the part of the trainer and the kids were the seal, but it might have been the other way around.

My dad would never be that cool when I was growing up. You get mega points from me on this one. And for sitting in the splash zone at the killer whale show.

For those of you with kids, you know that we couldn’t leave until each kid had touched a dolphin.

Kids? Uhh...I would be the same way.

I have to say...James is so darn cute at this age that I just want to squish him. Seriously.

We missed getting to feed and touch the dolphins, but we did watch them in the nursery and it was a really wonderful thing.

The show itself was great too. One “trick” the kids and I liked was that the trainer and one of the seals were standing on stage looking straight ahead. Then the trainer would look at the seal, who was still looking straight ahead. Then the trainer would turn his head back, straight ahead, and the seal would look at him. Then as soon as the trainer turned to catch the seal looking at him, the seal would turn his head straight ahead again. This went on for a little while and was pretty funny.

Our dog does that when he is inside on his pillow after I have to fuss at him. Every time I look at him he looks away, but you can tell he is sneaking a peak to see if I'm still glaring at him.

I remember that this next picture killed me because we were sitting just to the left of this little stage area where the whale plopped himself. If I had had the camera I could have taken a great shot. I could’ve probably filled the photo frame with the whale’s eyeball alone.

Well, maybe....but I'm not laying any cash on it! Saw too many of your outtakes in your TR, and that picture of us was all messed up......it looked too much like me! (I thought you promised to edit it first and make me look better )

After that we went through the clydesdale’s barn and the kids got their picture taken with the Budweiser donkey.

I don't know why, but this just hit me funny! Sounds too much like a P.T. Barnum ploy of some type.

I think the only problem we had with the dolphins was that James couldn’t really reach out far enough to touch them. I think I ended up holding him out so he could reach.

When the kids are young, this can be a dangerous thing. Not sure the dolphins can differentiate between potential food types dangling above them.

Yes, the shows were more James' speed than Atlantis. But he sure didn't want to take the fake helicopter ride to the Arctic outpost or whatever it was called.

I thought about making some kind of a joke in this installment about a killer (pause) whale show...like that show was "killer", but didn't want it to get confused with the recent accident. That must have been awful.

I think when we were there they had recently had a commercial featuring a donkey in their clydesdale commercials. Like it dreamed of being a clydesdale or something.

We eventually move to POR, but we aren't to that portion of the trip yet. For this portion we were still at the Sheraton Vistana. But I'm pretty sure they had sinks nearby to wash up after touching the dolphins. They had to have....no way Judy would let them go too long without washing after touching them.

There's usually a fair amount of laughter at our dinner table. Many close calls of spewed milk and milk through the nose.

I think I mentioned in an earlier reply that we didn't buy the fish to feed the dolphins. We just had the kids station themselves near people who did. Those dolphin teeth look like they could hurt!

One time we went to a fish farm (there are a ton of them on the Columbia) and I was too cheap to buy the kids the fish food, so they just gleaned it off the ground from all the kids who weren't so careful at the dispensers. They sure appreciated every "stinking" one of those disgusting little nuggets like they were priceless rubies and emeralds!!

That's when I lean towards him and turn up the heat. His eyes dart really fast then, back and forth. When I finally turn back to the computer, he looks my way and I do it all again. I can't keep it up long before I start to laugh. It is too funny!

Great update. The mime cracks me up. They used to have a similar act at Sea World San Antonio, but he hasn't been there the last two times we went. I'll check again this summer when we go back. I always did the splash zones in high school. Now, not so much. I'm all for cooling off on a hot summer day, but I think I prefer air conditioning to frigid, whale poop tainted seawater.
