The Moist Exhausting Free Trip Ever - Link to Part II Thread pg. 244

AWESOME update!!!!!! I didn't realize that the Hoopla was this! I've seen videos of past years and laughed and laughed - how very cool that you got to see it in person!!! Now I gotta go watch those YouTube videos, hope I don't wake Henry with my laughing...;)

Thank you! Yes, this was the answer to the immortal question: "What's all the hoopla?" It was way cool!

ETA: Those costumes that you saw earlier in the day were incredibly impressive!

They really were. Pretty darned similar to the actual costumes. The emcees must be shocked that they're being imitated by fans.

Wow, I never had any intention of visiting the Star Wars Weekends, but this show sounds like great fun!! I get it now why people always say to make sure to see it.

But how horrible to be in such a crowd. I agree with you that they ought to now better! :sad2:

It was so much fun...I guess it's just really strange seeing these characters move in ways that you don't expect. A "characters out of character" kind of thing.

They really need to do something to make it so everyone can see, and everyone is safe.

I wouldn't quite equate the south Florida humidity to the digestive juices of a Sarlacc but I guess it isn't too much of a stretch.

I knew you'd like that I worked that quote in!

The first draft of the screenplay had our heroes being thrown into Florida theme park, but it didn't seem exotic enough.

also an advantage of touring solo.

I imagine so.

and I thought some of your jokes were bad. Zing! ;)

What? You did?! Which one?

You would think that Disney would know better. Luckily the crowd there isn't too large or you can get into situations where people get knocked over and stepped on as the crowd keeps pushing closer.

There are plenty of examples of the worst that can happen in a situation like that.

That's where we were standing. It's a bit uphill so you can still see most of the stage back there and your not slowly getting digested which is a bonus.

That would be a bonus, but I liked being able to see so well. Judy said she could only see the dancers' heads -- and that one lady's foot when she kicked. :rotfl2: She was impressed by that.

So it was totally worth walking around all day in the heat I bet. :lmao:

Well, I'm sure they got a lot of attention everywhere they went. They were drawing a crowd of gawkers when I saw them.

I had flashbacks of Nick the Lounge Singer (Bill Murray) singing his version of Star Wars.

It was very similar to that actually! I didn't know the character's name was Nick.

Como say what?

I'm sorry, I hope I didn't spoil it for you. It's probably like finding out there's no Easter Bunny. Oops, I may have said too much.

I wanted to vote for Chewie. That hair really added to his moves!

He was awesome. I'm still trying to figure out where they can find cast members who are that big who can dance like that?

Did you have a DIS Dad moment? (reference)

Probably so. I do have a DIS Dad's number, but I don't remember it. :guilty: I'm not on that thread very much.

Even my teenage boy was grinning and that's saying a lot at Disney.

That's great!

Darth won on our trip as well. I think he probably wins nearly every time.

It's just about impossible to top that performance.

I'm glad you enjoyed the show. I'm sure James loved getting some high fives from the cast. Too bad about the crush of people but what are ya gonna do? :confused3
Star Wars Weekends are a blast and it is a big draw. I wish it was closer to Halloween so wearing costumes would be more comfortable.

He probably did get some high fives...I'll have to ask him.

Are you saying that you'd dress up if it was around Halloween? What would you go as?

Nice update, but I think I would have rather been with Judy! Maybe if I actually saw the show I would change my mind. If they put it in a theater I will be sure to check it out.

With that crowd situation, it definitely isn't for everyone. (And even without the crowd situation, probably.)

I can't imagine those characters, in some of those costumes, dancing in that heat and humidity! I also can't imagine someone knowing the names of all of those characters, without looking them up (assuming since you only confessed to research on two of them I think), claiming they aren't a geek!!! :lmao:

James was getting mad at me when I was writing that update because I kept calling him over, asking him who they were. I had to look up a couple of them to get the right spelling. And one, the kind of veiled lady, even he had no idea.

As for the Star Wars women, I always get the feeling they are trying to make them as freakish and ugly as possible.....unless of course we are talking about Princess Leia when she was a prisoner of Jabba the Hutt!!! :woohoo:

Insert Roy Orbison growl sound here.

I'm surprised they go through all that trouble to put on a show like that, and then have it on such a small stage!! You're right, they should try it in one of the larger theaters.

I know. I read that they improved the pyrotechnics too this year. So, it's no small thing.

Hi Glennbo!

I'm here, but unfortunately, it's taking longer to even just load the page than time I have right now. Hopefully after the Hoopla of dinner, my friend.

Take your time. Admittedly, there's a lot on that page to load.

Great update! That show looks like a lot of fun but I could deal without the crowds! (and heat) They really should find another stage for that show! I would love to go for Star Wars weekend but between the crowds and heat I wouldn't be fun to be around :rolleyes1

I totally understand. The heat and crowd situation sure separates the jedis from the padawans.

Oh and am I still the first to claim the point: no Judy-do sightings!

You are going to award a prize at the end of your TR for the one with the most points, aren't you?? :woohoo:

Nope, sorry Your Honor. Brookelizabeth swooped in shortly after the chapter was posted.

Wow, what a great update!! We loved Hyperspace Hoopla!!!!!!

Thank you! I think you said how good it was right after you got back, so I didn't want to miss it! So, thanks for the recommendation!

Not a big Star Wars fan, but I loved the update. I bet that was so much fun, except for the squishy crowd part. I can't wait to see what they do with the Star Tours refurb!!!

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to the Star Tours refurb too.

you stole this from me.

You did it yesterday, but I did it back on page 44!

great update, liked all the sohw pictures, i wonder if that wsa really that womans head, hard to see any kind of line where it was an add on, (the bald white painted head)

I know the one you're talking about. I'm sure it's a latex cap thing, but I looked at the picture, like you did, and I can't see any evidence of it. Those makeup artists would be great at spackling/sanding drywall.

nothing like a nice sweaty big man hording your space, im sure james loved that.

Nothing like it. It was funny because he had the best spot in the whole place and was still complaining.

Nice update. I am not a Star Wars fan so it wouldn't have been for me. With all that crowding it wouldn't have been for me even if I was. I would have been with Judy shopping or just sitting in AC waiting.

I can understand that. I'm glad that I knew to send her to the AC right away!

This sounds fantastic! And I admittedly had no idea. Really, dancing Star Wars peeps? It wasn't hitting me. But your pics and description sure do. I believe I see a lil' trip to SSW in our future! :thumbsup2

One thing I left out of the TR is that partway through the afternoon I got a text from Judy asking, "What is it we're coming back to the park for?" So yeah, she was right there with ya.

Leo would probably love it. I wish I could tell you where to stand though.

I hope to go for Star Wars weekend someday. My DS9 LOVES Star Wars. If you go on you tube they have other years for the dance offs. Pretty cool.

He'd definitely love it then. And the Jedi Training Academy. I saw that there were some videos from previous years, but haven't checked them out yet. I need to do that one of these days.

I would soooo love to see this show. I really enjoyed the update but I'll have to wait until I'm at home to check out the video (not work friendly).

Glad to hear you're a fan Vanessa! I think you'll like the video.

Poor James smushed by a big sweaty guy. YUCK!

Yeah -- YUCK! I wonder if the guy complained about the little kid next to him?

I would stand in the heat to see it too.

You are a trooper! And not the "storm" kind.

Nope, sorry Your Honor. Brookelizabeth swooped in shortly after the chapter was posted.

Stupid me... I really shouldn't tell you this because you will substract some of the points I got so far: I did not get her "Zero" post at all until now... :rolleyes1 I even was wondering which inside joke, which I didn't know about, the two of you were referring to...

That's funny. No, no inside joke. Since you are so honest, I'll let you keep all of your points.

Wow - that sounds like one crazy show. Looks like a lot of fun. I didn't even know that existed as part of star wars weekends. I am not so sure I would have liked the rope thing and I hate touching other peoples sweat. Yuch. You are right - they should move it to a better venue. But until they do, I'm with Judy!

darn it:headache:

it is a very good makeup job, unless she really did come in from another planet.

speaking of maybe they could fix a little problem in my garage i have

Nothing like it. It was funny because he had the best spot in the whole place and was still complaining.
well that depends on if sweaty big guy had gas or not, and was right about james head level with it.:rotfl2:

Excellent update Cap'n!

Looks like an awesome show, but I'd have had to hold my two in order for them to see and in that heat, no way Jose.

Love the pics and vids though. I have seen a You Tube clip of Vader dancing to M.C. Hammer and wondered what possible circumstances might have transpired in order to lead to such a thing.

Awesome update! I never knew what the Hoopla was, but it looks hilarious! Maybe when my boys are older we'll try to brave the crowds and see Star Wars Weekend.

It definitely is crazy and fun. I think it's kind of the big "grand finale" of each Star Wars day.

So many people have said that they're with Judy, I'm beginning to think that it's going to get crowded back there too!

well that depends on if sweaty big guy had gas or not, and was right about james head level with it.:rotfl2:

You did show me the secret to posting video, so I'll give you that one.

Have you ever known a big sweaty guy who didn't have gas?

Excellent update Cap'n!

Looks like an awesome show, but I'd have had to hold my two in order for them to see and in that heat, no way Jose.

Thanks! I did not notice any small kids in the crowd ('course I couldn't even see my own son ), probably for that very reason.

Love the pics and vids though. I have seen a You Tube clip of Vader dancing to M.C. Hammer and wondered what possible circumstances might have transpired in order to lead to such a thing.

I'll have to look for that. It sounds great.

Awesome update! I never knew what the Hoopla was, but it looks hilarious! Maybe when my boys are older we'll try to brave the crowds and see Star Wars Weekend.

Thank you! They would probably like it. Like I told PrincessV earlier, I wish I could tell you where to stand. If you're not there super-early to get a spot at the rope, it's going to be hard for them to see.

Great update. I have seen some of the you tube videos but had no idea it was a whole Hoop LA... Hyperpsace Hoopla.

My son was trying not to be interested but I am sure after he eats he maybe interested in seeing the whole video.
He is the one who walked in while I watching Deal or no Deal the Star Wars edition and immediately knew the girls were in Slave Leia outifts. Then again, maybe I don't want to know what goes on in the mind of a 16 yr old boy. :sad2:

Okay, I just watched HSH on youtube with DSs and they really liked it! I have to admit, it was better than it sounded. I'm guessing we'll get the chance to sweat it out and take this in next year since we are planning to go back the very first part of June.

That show looks awesome! Too bad poor James got squished. I would not have done well in that crowd. Was it as bad as trying to exit MK after Wishes on Thanksgiving? I can't get over dancing Darth Vader! :rotfl2: One day I will get to a Star Wars Weekend....perhaps next year :scratchin

What? You did?! Which one?

I'm just ribbing ya! I love your jokes...and then having fun with them. :goodvibes

I'm sorry, I hope I didn't spoil it for you. It's probably like finding out there's no Easter Bunny. Oops, I may have said too much.

That outfit is just...what the? with no point of reference. :lmao:

Are you saying that you'd dress up if it was around Halloween? What would you go as?

Halloween is a big holiday around our house. We decorate every year and host a party. This year will be a Pirate Theme. If my wife joins me at Disneyland this October then we would probably dress up for Mickey's Halloween Party. Solo I just can't see myself doing that. So yes, if the weather was more tolerable, I would go as a middle-aged Obi-Wan with my beard. I would need a wig to pull it off though. :rotfl:

Thanks! That was great! The stormtroopers are fun to watch...their legs are moving a mile a minute.

Great update. I have seen some of the you tube videos but had no idea it was a whole Hoop LA... Hyperpsace Hoopla.

Oh yeah, it's a Hoop-LA....Hyperspace HOOP-la.

My son was trying not to be interested but I am sure after he eats he maybe interested in seeing the whole video.

Well of course he recognized the Slave Leia outfits.

And your suspicion is right -- you don't want to know!

Okay, I just watched HSH on youtube with DSs and they really liked it! I have to admit, it was better than it sounded. I'm guessing we'll get the chance to sweat it out and take this in next year since we are planning to go back the very first part of June.

Glad your sons liked it, and that you thought it was better than you thought. Sounds like you just sentenced yourself to an hour+ in the pit! (Make it through the waiting part, and you're home free. You'll forget the crowd once the show starts.)

I loved it, I tell ya.

Hmm, I'm not sure...haven't seen Wishes on Thanksgiving. But, I'm kinda thinking this was worse because when they moved the rope people were jostling for position, trying to improve their view.

I'm just ribbing ya! I love your jokes...and then having fun with them. :goodvibes

Oh I know. In fact, when I asked "which one" that was a joke, because I'm sure there's more than one that made you groan.

That outfit is just...what the? with no point of reference. :lmao:

Oh yeah. Sorry about that. Here's a link to the installment that he appeared in last year.

:rotfl:

Sounds like it'll be a fun time! Yeah, I wouldn't want to dress up if I were going solo either.

A middle-aged Obi-Wan, very good. Just keep your hood up the whole time.

Speaking of Obi-Wan, I caught the beginning of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom on Saturday and noticed that after Indy and Willie fall into the car and Short-Round drives off, the name of the club is "Club Obi Wan". Then when they get to the airport, the guy who puts them on the plane is Dan Aykroyd. I had never noticed that before.

I watched the youtube videos and I LOVED IT!

Yeah! I sense a May or June trip in your future.

Wow!!! So now I know what all the hoopla is about :lmao:

Sounds like you all had a great time even with all the :crowded: sweaty people.

I think I would pass on such an event, but my Mom would be all over it. She loves star wars and being around people :rolleyes1 not that she'd love the sweat, but I think she'd like the atmosphere. She camped out with a friend to see the Macy's Day Parade in New York two years ago.

can't wait to see what became of your night.

Great update, Glenn. ALthough I've never been a big Star Wars fan, DH is so I've seen all the movies. I wouldn't know 99% of the characters. :rotfl::rotfl:

Evening Glen !!Dc is getting closer !!!!!!!!!!!

Oh I know! I'm trying to prepare myself. Where are we supposed to meet? At what time?

Wow!!! So now I know what all the hoopla is about :lmao:

That's it, all right.

Sounds like you all had a great time even with all the :crowded: sweaty people.

Yep-er.

Any fan who can brave the crowd would love it.

Hey, we just posted on each others' threads at exactly the same time! Whoa!

You didn't really have to know the characters to enjoy it. It was just wild to see them dance like that. And there were a ton of jokes too.
