Day 1 - Part 5
Before I walked over to the pool, as I described in the last chapter, I thought that I should let Dan (FauntleroyFan07) know that we had arrived, since today was our travel day. Dan and I had corresponded via the DIS prior to our trips and had arranged to meet each other at the Yeehaa Bob Jackson show at Port Orleans Riverside on this evening. So, in my text I said something like Were here, enjoy the luau and well see you soon. After Dan responded I realized that I needed to clarify that we were here, in the big sense, as in Orlando, not at Port Orleans. I think that I confused him a little.
Anyway, we got back from the pool, got changed, and went to the Coronado Springs bus stop at about 7pm. The show was scheduled to start at 8:30, and I wanted to get there early enough that we could get seats together for all of my family, plus Dan and Candi. At about quarter to 8 Dan and I exchanged texts again. We were just leaving Downtown Disney and they were at the Magic Kingdom waiting for a bus. Shortly after these texts, my phone received a text, but even though my phone was set on vibrate
and alarm, I never felt or heard it go off. It was an important text. It said, Do we want Riverside or French Quarter?
Oops.
Sorry Dan.
Last year there were times when I never realized that Judy was calling me on my cell phone. Shed ask me, where do you have your phone that you cant feel it? It was in my front pocket, where youd think it would be, um, most noticeable.

I dont know what to say. Well, apparently this was another one of those times when I just missed it.
We arrived at Port Orleans Riverside at about 8, and were able to move a couple of tables together so that we could accommodate our party of 7 people. I pulled out my phone and saw the text I had missed. I texted back Riverside! but figured I was way too late sending that information. I got a text back from Dan that read, Ok, we have a special ride over, VIP treatment. So, from that I knew with the 50-50 chance they had of catching a Riverside bus, Murphys Law was in full-force and they had gone to French Quarter.
In the meantime, we looked at the menu and decided wed have an appetizer dinner. We ordered one of each of the three appetizers they offer at the River Roost Lounge, which were nachos, boneless buffalo wings, and BBQ shrimp. I got a Dogfish brand beer, Judy ordered a white wine (although I dont remember what exactly) and the kids each asked for a Shirley Temple. Our server (I forgot to write down his name) replied, We dont have Shirley Temples here. And I started thinking, Thats odd. They got them last year. But he continued, Here, we have Zip-a-dee-doo-dahs! Being Port Orleans Riverside. Ahh yes, okay. (Whatever!)
Yeehaa Bob Jackson came out and sat at the piano to warm up. A couple of kids went to talk to him, and James and Marlene didnt want to be outdone so they went up too.
Then Dan and Candi arrived. They told us that they had had gotten on the Port Orleans French Quarter bus, and although they asked various people (the bus driver?), no one had ever heard of Yeehaa Bob or knew where his show was held. When they figured out it was at Riverside, the bus driver brought Dan and Candi over from French Quarter, even though it was outside of his normal route.
Dan and Candi said that the luau at the Polynesian was great and that they really enjoyed it. Our server came by and they ordered two Bud Lite Lime beers, which they said were really good. We offered some of the appetizers to them, but they were stuffed from their luau and encouraged us to eat up. So we did! I forgot to take pictures of the appetizers, but I didnt forget to get photo evidence of our DISmeet. I asked Judy to take our picture. This first one, of Dan and I, is out of focus because my camera focuses on objects in the center and Judy didnt know to focus it and then line up the picture.
We solved our focusing problem by putting something in the center to help the camera focus -- Candi! Its a much better picture with her in it, Im sure youll agree.
Yeehaa Bob walked around the room, meeting people. He chatted with Marlene and James. I love Lauren's reaction to Bob's pose with Marlene.
Soon Bob started the show by saying Are you having a good time? Everyone cheered. Well, prepare for that to come to a screeching halt right now. Big laugh.
I always have a hard time getting good pictures of him because its kind of dark in the lounge, and he wont sit still. Theres always a blur somewhere.
Then he asked people, by name, to stand on their chairs. He said which ones were celebrating birthdays and such. They were all people he had talked to prior to the show. His memory was pretty impressive.
Heres Marlene getting called.
Early on in the show he played Country Roads and asked all of us to yell out our state name in place of the West Virginia part.
Take me home, country roads, to the place, I belong, (substitute your state) Then he yelled out Me too!
He told us that as new people would come in hed ask them where they were from and then hed ask if anyone else was from there and then he wanted us all to yell. When we were on the receiving end of that last year, coming in late, I wasnt sure if hed instructed everyone to do that or if they just knew what to do. It was always good for a laugh, and we had a couple of opportunities on this night.
Here are some more blurry Bob photos.
All the kids were asked to come to the front for a rousing rendition of Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes.
Here you can see our table enjoying the festivities.
Dan and Candi were recognized by Bob for celebrating their anniversary. We loved their matching outfits.
This is another bad, blurry picture of Bob, but I thought it was funny that he was showing some leg.
I remembered that my phone can take some video (30 seconds at a time) and thought Id give it a shot.
Sorry, the audio isn't very good.
