The Moist Exhausting Free Trip Ever - Link to Part II Thread pg. 244

You really need to get a life, Marv. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
Well, it's not like I didn't have plenty of time to look. I'm on here most of the day and my bestest buddy Glenn waits until I have to leave and go pick Drew up from school to post an update!!! I get back home and :scared1: The obvious two answer was long ago taken, so I needed that little Judy part to be able to trump the less observant!!! :woohoo:

Okay, after a quick search for Judy's, I am going back to read the in-between parts much quicker than usual. Was really looking forward to this update since we will be doing WCC for the first time on our upcoming trip!
Day 5 - Part 2
We got to the boat dock a little before 1 o’clock, and I was hoping that that would be enough time to get to our 1:30 ADR. I had no idea how often the boats ran or how long it took to cruise across the lake. But fear not! Our boat mojo was on fire, as a boat showed-up quickly and by about 1:10 I was taking pictures like this:

IMG_3233.jpg

IMG_3234.jpg
Nice pictures! Hope to get some similar on my trip! :yay:
Soon we entered the magnificent lobby.

IMG_3236.jpg

It reminded me of the lobby at the Animal Kingdom Lodge (and it probably should since they were both designed by the same architect), but with a Pacific-Northwest feel.
I'm guessing the pics don't do it justice! :confused3
Like I said, we made ourselves comfortable on the furniture while we waited. It’s not real plush, but it was comfy enough that after a few minutes Judy was out! As in “Zzzzzzz”. A few days at Disney can do that to you. After about a 25 minute wait our buzzer went off, I woke Judy, and we went to be seated.
Can definitely relate! See my Mai Tai story on Kathy's thread. But dangit man, you didn't tell me how long the boat ride took! How am I supposed to know how long to allot for our boat ride when the time comes??? Come on, I expect completeness when I read a glennbo TR update!!! :sad2:
Our server was Jeffro, not to be confused with Jethro from the Beverly Hillbillies. We started off with the bottomless milkshakes, because we heard that they’re good and well, bottomless! Looking at the picture, I think Judy and I got vanilla, Lauren and Marlene got chocolate, and James got strawberry.
Plan to be on the DDP and I hear you can count the bottomless shakes as your dessert!!! :woohoo:
Judy and I each ordered the skillet and Jeffro brought out some cornbread that he said went with the skillet, which is an all-you-can-eat thing, but he told us that it was okay to share the cornbread with others at the table.

IMG_3252.jpg

And Judy and my skillet.

IMG_3251.jpg
Looks delish! That is where I'm leaning come mealtime! :thumbsup2
As I was taking these pictures, I noticed that Jeffro was talking particularly loudly to the table next to us. It was a large table of about a dozen people and looked to be an older couple who had taken their children and grandchildren to Disney. Anyway, we couldn’t help but overhear Jeffro say, “If you go to New York City, you can tell who the tourists are because they’ve always got their cameras pointed up, taking pictures of the buildings….”

I started thinking, “Oh boy, here it comes.”

Jeffro continued, “At Disney, you can tell the tourists….”

Yeah, yeah, I know where you’re going with this one Jeffro.

“….because they take pictures of their food!” with a hand-wave over toward me and guffaws from the big table of twelve.

Oh Jeffro, you’re lucky I’m so good-natured. You had no idea that I was writing a trip report and am practically obligated to take all of these food pictures. I forgive you.
You don't have to explain to us Glenn! Still pretty funny though. I will have to try and be more discreet! :rotfl2:
James looked at his burger and asked me about ketchup, seeing none on the table. “Asking for ketchup at Whispering Canyon Café” was a secret I knew about from the Disboards and was keeping to myself. I said, “I’ll get Jeffro’s attention, and you ask him for it.” I flagged Jeffro down and James asked for some ketchup. I was thinking “Wait for it. Wait for it….”

And Jeffro returned with ketchup. What the heck?! What happened to having our table inundated with all of the ketchup bottles in the whole place? Oh well, we were too hungry for all of that anyway.
Well that sucks! I already was looking forward to setting that one up to one of my unsuspecting DSs, or poor DW! ;)
We all loved our food. The skillet was great. I dove into the ribs and thought they were good. Then I tried the chicken and it blew me away. I said to Judy, “You think the ribs are good…wait’ll you try the chicken!” The spices on it were fabulous.
A glennbo two thumbs up! Definitely going with the skillet! :goodvibes
We made a small dent in the second skillet that Jeffro brought, but that was it. We were full! I’m still torn on the milkshake thing at this restaurant. I love them, and I love that they’re bottomless, but shakes are so filling that they really impede my ability to go crazy on that all-you-can-eat skillet.
Duly noted! Very noteworthy!
My overall thoughts on Whispering Canyon Café are that we liked it a lot. We enjoyed some “stick to your ribs” food and got plenty of it. However, it did take a lot of time away from the parks since it’s located at a resort and there are so many other Disney restaurants I’d like to try, so it probably won’t get scheduled for our next trip, but we’re glad we gave it a try.
Looks like we picked a good time to try this since we are planning more down time this trip!:thumbsup2

I love WL :cloud9: If I had a million dollars (queue Barenaked Ladies song) I'd spend it here to stay a year!

We slurped down our shakes pretty quickly and Jeffro brought us another round, this time with whipped cream and sprinkles!

:rotfl: When I read this all I could picture was you getting all excited like a little kid

I started thinking, “Oh boy, here it comes.”

Jeffro continued, “At Disney, you can tell the tourists….”

Little did he know...tsk tsk. Does he not realize the importance of food porn around here?!

I flagged Jeffro down and James asked for some ketchup. I was thinking “Wait for it. Wait for it….”

And Jeffro returned with ketchup. What the heck?! What happened to having our table inundated with all of the ketchup bottles in the whole place? Oh well, we were too hungry for all of that anyway.

Aww too bad the ketchup bombardment didn't happen. I'd be totally let down if I was looking forward to something like that.

Sounds like a big meal at Whispering Canyon. I've never eaten there might might give it a try one day. It just seems like such heavy food with no lighter options. Thanks for the great review :thumbsup2

Dang! Two of you beat me!!! But, I'm in agreement, 2.

3 Judy's! The picture that Marlene is holding her turkey sandwich, you can see Judy's watch on her arm in the top right corner of the picture!

Well, isn't this interesting?!

To top it off, the Judging Committee (a subcommittee of the Rules Committee) is still meeting behind closed doors. I put my ear to the door :listen: and there's lots of discussion, but I can't make out what they're saying. Occasionally I hear a banging noise, like fists pounding on the table. They could be having a heated discussion about this last round of points, or...they could be deciding what toppings to get on their pizza. I'll have to get back to you on the outcome.

In the meantime, I'll respond to other comments.

Great pics of the WCC. The lobby is stunning and your pictures brought that out. Glad you enjoyed your meal at WCC. Unfortunately, we ate there two years ago (2008) and it was awful as was the service. It left a bad taste in our mouth (Mark actually got sick on the ribs and/or chicken) and we won't go back. But I know a lot of people love it. I did like the bottomless milkshake.

Thanks. Oh wow, that sounds awful. I wouldn't go back either, if that happened to me. I'm sorry to read that.

 I think it's hilarious we both did our WCC updates today! I'm so glad you took food pics..I'm drooling over them now.

I know! In your update it looked like you were seated pretty close to where the large party was that was near us. But you were all the way near the back wall, correct? We weren't quite that far.

WHAT?! No yelling for ketchup?! Wait, you know..now that I think about it..I remember reading somewhere that they've started only doing the crazy stuff like yelling for ketchup and all of that for dinner now. Maybe that's why? :confused3

I was glad to see in your TR that they still do it. You're probably right, that they do it at dinner, but I don't understand why they'd do it differently.

What a bummer about the ketchup! James would have loved that I'm sure! However, despite that, it sounds like a great meal. The food looks sooooo good to me right now - my "lunch" was pathetic! I didn't realize they had bottomless milkshakes! Man, I want this on our ADR list for March, but we already are all settled....I just might have to talk to Joe. :rolleyes1 We haven't been over to the WL since we stayed there in 2008 and it's so beautiful, I miss it!

Yeah, I was a little bummed about the ketchup, but that meant that I didn't have to whip out my camera and could concentrate on eating! Good luck sorting out your ADR list. Don't you love it when you have them all set, and then start second-guessing? Maybe I shouldn't have posted this so close to lunch.

What? WHAT?! No ketchup gag? *faints*

Ok, I'm back. Maybe it was a little more subdued at lunchtime? That's a little disappointing.

Yes, I was a little shocked myself, Captain. I thought that the old ketchup gag was a lock.

Well, I'm glad you liked it, anyway. We keep going back for the fun and the WL atmosphere. The food we've found to be good overall, but a little inconsistent.

I think we hit it on a good day, apparently. I'll take that.

I know what you mean about time away from the parks. I think we've learned to keep the resort meals limited to dinner time, after we've left for the day.

Oh, and I agree with the others: 2!

I think we did all right with when we timed this one, since we were changing resorts and were pretty tired from all of the park touring we'd been doing the past several days.

:snooty: Jeffro! What does he know? Clearly he doesn't understand the significance of food porn in a trippie.

I'm telling ya. There are people counting on me!

Your family looks great! I think WCC fills you up on cheapy ice cream so you don't hork down on the real (read more expensive) food.

Thank you Jenny.

You're absolutely right. They know exactly what they're doing. And I fall for it every time....just like our dog, who goes into his crate with the lure of a peanut butter filled globe, every time.

You really need to get a life, Marv. :rotfl2:

That was true before this game ever came along.

:woohoo:

Hey, didn't I see you posting on another thread about how it was your new favorite TR? :sad2:

Okay, after a quick search for Judy's, I am going back to read the in-between parts much quicker than usual. Was really looking forward to this update since we will be doing WCC for the first time on our upcoming trip!

Oh, this is good info. for you then, in addition to the sheer entertainment value.

Nice pictures! Hope to get some similar on my trip!
I'm guessing the pics don't do it justice!

Thanks, I hope you do too.

Yes, I'd rather be there than looking at pictures.

Can definitely relate! See my Mai Tai story on Kathy's thread.

I saw it -- the Mai Tai coupons that were turned down. :rotfl2:

But dangit man, you didn't tell me how long the boat ride took!
How am I supposed to know how long to allot for our boat ride when the time comes??? Come on, I expect completeness when I read a glennbo TR update!!! :sad2:

About 10 or 15 minutes. The bigger variable is how quickly a boat will show up to take you.

Plan to be on the DDP and I hear you can count the bottomless shakes as your dessert!!! :woohoo:

Looks delish! That is where I'm leaning come mealtime!

Sounds like you've got it all planned out. (As did I!)

You don't have to explain to us Glenn! Still pretty funny though. I will have to try and be more discreet! :rotfl2:

I couldn't let my readers down!

Well that sucks! I already was looking forward to setting that one up to one of my unsuspecting DSs, or poor DW! ;)

You might be all right at dinner time.

A glennbo two thumbs up! Definitely going with the skillet!
Duly noted! Very noteworthy!
Looks like we picked a good time to try this since we are planning more down time this trip!:thumbsup2

I think you're going to like it. Go hungry.

I love WL :cloud9: If I had a million dollars (queue Barenaked Ladies song) I'd spend it here to stay a year!

And with the leftover change you could buy a pack of gum or something.

:rotfl: When I read this all I could picture was you getting all excited like a little kid

There was some jumping up and down without even leaving my seat. :yay:

Little did he know...tsk tsk. Does he not realize the importance of food porn around here?!

Don't worry -- I am not ashamed. I will continue taking pictures of my food at Disney!

Aww too bad the ketchup bombardment didn't happen. I'd be totally let down if I was looking forward to something like that.

Well, what're you going to do. We'd had enough "magical" moments that we didn't need to force one.

Sounds like a big meal at Whispering Canyon. I've never eaten there might might give it a try one day. It just seems like such heavy food with no lighter options. Thanks for the great review :thumbsup2

You say that like it's a bad thing.

Not sure what is taking the Judging Committee so long. It is like the instant replay in the college games, when the TV network shows the replay and you know the correct call immediately, but the replay officials take forever to figure it out! (queue the Jeopardy theme here.....)

In the picture of the four bottomless milkshakes, Judy is to the right of Marlene (Marlene's left). Judy's right arm clearly shows a watch/bracelet. In the turkey sandwich picture, to Marlene's left, is the arm with the same watch/bracelet. Judging Committee says..............? :surfweb: popcorn::

Hi Glen!! :wave2:

I'm glad to see everyone seems to be busy lately! It didn't take me as long as I thought to catch up. Between watching the baseball game and reading, only about 2 hours!! :lmao:

Love the picture you took of the Sorcerer's Hat! The fireworks are great too - I never have good luck with fireworks.

Way to go with the morning jog! It would be a nice idea in my head, but that's where it would stay. Don't think I could ever get up and do a jog in the "feels like I took a shower inside myself" weather!! :rotfl2:

I was cracking up when I got to the lady playing the bicycle horns - so nice of you to protect her identity with the nose glasses!!! :rotfl:

That Parker... he is so stinkin' cute!! I don't think it is possible for him to take a bad picture!!

Glad you enjoyed lunch at WCC. Marlene's potato chips looked quite tasty! I think those shakes would have killed my appetite though!

And Jeffro with his tourist comment - who's not a tourist at Disney!!

No, we weren't too far in the back. We were probably the first big table that they had to the right of the restaurant.

WCC has been a great meal for us. Sorry Kat that your experience was not good. I totally agree in your case.

My last time there with DS had some unexpected results. It started with a "large" soda and ended with me waiting in Fort Wilderness for an hour while my DS "processed" said "large" soda. :rotfl2::rotfl2:

2 Judys

Love all your WL pictures! They make me want to go back there.

I honestly didn't know they had bottomless milkshakes at WCC. But I can see where a bottomless milkshake combined with the "all you can eat skillet" would be quite dangerous. I would need a fork lift to get me out of the chair.

I have to say, that burger looks pretty darn tasty.

What....no ketchup follies? How disappointing.

Who is the WL icon to which you refer?

Hmmm, all they said was that they'd still take submissions for a while.

That's a head-scratcher isn't it?

Why would they keep it open? :scratchin
Why would they keep it open? :scratchin

Hi Glen!! :wave2:

I'm glad to see everyone seems to be busy lately! It didn't take me as long as I thought to catch up. Between watching the baseball game and reading, only about 2 hours!! :lmao:

Hi Tracy! Good to see you!

I'm hoping that 2 hours was on all the threads you follow, not just this one.

Love the picture you took of the Sorcerer's Hat! The fireworks are great too - I never have good luck with fireworks.

Thanks. The secret to fireworks pictures are to keep the shutter open for a second or two, and keep the camera veeeery still. On a tripod if possible.

Way to go with the morning jog! It would be a nice idea in my head, but that's where it would stay. Don't think I could ever get up and do a jog in the "feels like I took a shower inside myself" weather!! :rotfl2:

It's not my favorite thing to do...I can easily come up with excuses not to, but it does a body good. (To steal a milk slogan.)

I was cracking up when I got to the lady playing the bicycle horns - so nice of you to protect her identity with the nose glasses!!! :rotfl:

Who knows, she might be a DISer.

That Parker... he is so stinkin' cute!! I don't think it is possible for him to take a bad picture!!

I agree!

Glad you enjoyed lunch at WCC. Marlene's potato chips looked quite tasty! I think those shakes would have killed my appetite though!

Those shakes almost did kill my appetite. It helped that it was a 2 o'clock lunch.

And Jeffro with his tourist comment - who's not a tourist at Disney!!

Yeah, good point!

No, we weren't too far in the back. We were probably the first big table that they had to the right of the restaurant.

Oh okay, I was thinking you were way in the back. We were a couple of tables away from the back wall.

That stinks (no pun intended) when someone needs extra "processing" time at Disney. A soda though?

That's the obvious choice.

Love all your WL pictures! They make me want to go back there.

Thanks. I'm sure you will!

I honestly didn't know they had bottomless milkshakes at WCC. But I can see where a bottomless milkshake combined with the "all you can eat skillet" would be quite dangerous. I would need a fork lift to get me out of the chair.

Yep...free refills. Combine that with the skillet and you're playin' with fire. Don't make any big plans for afterward.

I have to say, that burger looks pretty darn tasty.

What....no ketchup follies? How disappointing.

He liked his burger.

Yeah, no ketchup gag. Oh well.

Who is the WL icon to which you refer?

You were the last person I thought I'd stump with that one. Hmmm.

Hmmm, all they said was that they'd still take submissions for a while.

Well if the Judy polls are still open I will shoot for 4. I will say the 2 obvious ones, the watch that Marv pointed out, and in the picture of the cornbread there is an arm of some sort behind it that if you were there eating that yummy looking cornbread that you may know whether or not was Judy. :confused3

Although, in the lobby of the WL there was somebody resting on the chair or couch that I took in to consideration, but I ruled it out.

Yes, I noticed the arm in that picture also, actually before finding the one with Judy's watch. But not having any distinguishing info to tell if it is Judy's arm or not, and not knowing the location of the cornbread (which looks really yummy) on the table, I put this one in the category of the earlier contest where Glenn ruled the one possible Judy sighting out due to it being inconclusive.

Okay, fourth Judy sighting to the left of James (his right) in the picture showing his burger!

I'm surprised they didn't inundate you with ketchup! Wilderness Lodge is high on my list to stay at one day. Well, someday.

We avoided going to resort restaraunts on our WDW trip due to the amount of time it takes away. If it was just adults I'm sure me and Dianna would have checked out places like this.

Trying desperately to catch up again!!

I laughed out loud at the Bell guys comment of "It feels like I took a shower inside myself" :lmao::lmao::lmao: Cracks me up re-writing it.

Glad James rode Space Mountain! :thumbsup2 DS has still not conquered any other "roller coaster" besides Goofy's Barnstormer. Alas, I believe 2011 is our year to upgrade. He claims he is going to try Big Thunder Mountain Railroad on our next trip. We shall see!

Glad you got to meet up with Dan & Candi again and see Parker! What a little cutie he is. I'm bummed that I missed meeting them all together.

What was up with the no ketchup thing??? :confused3

Ok, off to read more........

Just realized that I AM caught up. :rolleyes1

The food at Whispering Canyon looks really good. I'd like to try the skillett too. Keeping that one on my list for next time.

Okay, fourth Judy sighting to the left of James (his right) in the picture showing his burger!

The Judging Committee emerged at about midnight last night from their sequestered adjudicating room (which they call the "Ad-JUDY-cating Room" -- they do have a sense of humor despite being really serious most of the time) with their decision for this round's points:

Half of this round's points to Magdalene for being the first with the answer of obvious Judy's. (The "reasonable person" test. No offense Marv, it's a legal term.)

The remaining points are split between Tanya, who responded with the correct number including minute pieces of Judy's, and Marv who correctly identified where those minute pieces appeared in the pictures.

You are correct Marv, the committee could not determine the owner of the arm that appears in the cornbread picture and was ruled it "inconclusive".

Following their pronouncement, the committee ran to the locker room to change and immediately left the stadium by police escort.

It was kind of a let down -- James would have been the perfect person to get hit with the ketchup gag.

I love trying out the WDW restaurants, but it is a little tough to work-in the resort ones during a park day. I think we did all right, considering this was a day we were changing resorts.

Trying desperately to catch up again!!

I laughed out loud at the Bell guys comment of "It feels like I took a shower inside myself" :lmao::lmao::lmao: Cracks me up re-writing it.

I was just thinking that I hadn't seen you around lately. Glad you're still checking-in.

Yes, it was worded a little strangely, but I definitely knew what he was talking about!

I think (and other people have posted this also) that BTMRR is a great transitional rollercoaster. It's a little thrilling, but not real scary. So, if you can get your son on it, which may be another matter altogether, he'll probably love it and be on his way to trying more thrill rides.

Glad you got to meet up with Dan & Candi again and see Parker! What a little cutie he is. I'm bummed that I missed meeting them all together.

It's a lot of fun to meet people in person that you've talked with on the DIS. I have one more DISmeet coming up on this trip, and those people were really great too. ;)

What was up with the no ketchup thing??? :confused3

Ok, off to read more........

Yeah, no big ketchup hoopla. What're you going to do?

Just realized that I AM caught up. :rolleyes1

:yay:

The food at Whispering Canyon looks really good. I'd like to try the skillett too. Keeping that one on my list for next time.

As long as you've worked up an appetite, I recommend it.
