The MEMBER has to purchase UPH?

I called MS to ask if I had to personally (as a member) purchase the UPHs for our guests and ourselves to get the 10% discount. The answer was yes.....
Is this in conflict with any other member's experience????
I seem to remember a discussion on this a long time ago with a different outcome.

The stated policy is that only a member can purchase the UPH for him/herself and the guests staying in the same unit. I've seen reports of people having other experiences but that is the way it's presented.

No - you are right

everyone can purchase there own - there ID (room key) will say DVC member - and that is all the front desk needs to give them the 10% discount.

I think they are crazy (okay my opinion) - I think the UPH is a bad deal - I am in the minority.

if your guests are not staying in the same villa that you are - remember the reservations must be in their name or the front desk will not let them check in.

here is what the member site says

"Walt Disney World® Theme Parks Admission Discount
Members receive a 10% discount on the Ultimate Park Hopper Ticket. This ticket provides unlimited admission (except for activities/events that are separately priced) to the Magic Kingdom® Park, Epcot®, Disney-MGM Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom® Theme Park, Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, Downtown Disney® Pleasure Island, DisneyQuest® Indoor Interactive Theme Park, and Disney's Wide World of Sports® Complex (valid only on event days, some events require separate admission). the last sentence deals with member trying to get the discount when using their points for the WDW resorts.

On one of our 2003 visits to VWL, the front desk cast member almost did not give my in-laws the discount. Even though the tickets were room charged, the cast member said the discount was only for the actual members. I am not sure if the cast member was using the correct policy, but that is what happened. She ended up giving the discount to my guests after she saw a somewhat puzzled look on my face (no, I did not put up a fuss while kicking and screaming ).

Then I must be in the minority as well. Depending on the length of your stay, even with the 10% off the UPH can be a complete rip off.

If your staying longer then 8 nights - an annual pass is actually cheaper.

Furthermore, if your staying 7 nights or less - but RETURNING to WDW within a year, the AP works out to be MUCH cheaper.

We normally go for 14 nights - so we get the AP's everytime.

I think it depends on how you plan to vacation. Yes, it can be a rip-off, but if you want total flexibility for six or seven days, it may be the way to go. Personally, I like total freedom, so my wife and I have PAPs. Our guests usually get UPH so they can have the same flexibility of entering a park only for dinner.

Many folks are likely more diciplined than us, and a regular hopper is the way to go for them.

No right or wrong answer here, just depends on your particular situation.
