Hi all,

As the excursion info is set to be released mid Dec, it has got me thinking.

I have back problems and cant sit in the same position for long periods of time. Unfortunatly that means Rome is a definate nono for me as the coach trip to get there is at least 90mins each way , then the walking around.

I am hoping that when they release the excursions that they will have some short ones eg half days. (fingers x)

The one thing I would really like to see is the leaning tower of PISA - Does anyone know how far PISA is away from the ship ??? :confused3 Hope its not more than an hour away.

Thanks
I cant wait for this cruise, as I only have a 2 hour flight compared to the normal 9 hours!!!!

Pisa is a relatively short distance from the port in La Spezia, and no doubt DCL will have an excursion there . . .

Pisa is only about 30 minutes away by train from La Speza.

Went to Pisa for the first time many years ago when we were allowed inside the tower, dont think you can do that now but may be wrong. My friend took a beautiful picture of us all in front of a very upright tower with the othe buildings leaning over. This was a mistake but so different.

The Cinque Terre Villages are a very good alternative to cities and that is what we are thinking of doing. Know you can get there by road and also by boat.

We are also thinking about Cinque Terre. You can also take the train there from La Spezia. Would love to get more info about this area. Seems like it would be very easy to do on your own. :confused3

You can go in the leaning tower again now -- you are right that they had stopped it for a while, but they did a little work on the foundation and now you can get tickets to go up again.

I have already done most of these cruise locations in Italy, But
as this is my family's vacation I am going to hit the big sites just to get pictures with the kids (All 4 of them)! :thumbsup2

The little villages in Italy are best when you have a lot of time, :hourglass a week in Positano is heavenly, you just wont get the same experience on a day tour.

Besides I will save the Cinque Terre for when my wife & I can get away by ourselves!

We have travelled extensively in Italy over the years but still feel that the Amalfi Drive is well worth doing. Also the Puccini Villa is another alternative to Pisa. This apparently from what we were told is where puccini got the inspiration to write Madam Butterfly.

Also hoping that the Magic lingers around Stromboli to see the frequent volcanic activity after leaving Palermo.

Try this link to Rick Steve's site. Cinque Terre is about 3/4 of the way down the page (and you might find some other links interesting too). There are other towns to visit from this port. Sienna is one that sounds like it could be a relaxing day in Italy.

We'll be Tuscany - eat, drink, enjoy life - with no worries - It doesn't get much better than that.

We used to go to Tuscany quite regularly when the children were small. Sienna is a nice town and very typical Italian.

I just love Italy and have never had a bad holiday there. If you have children they adore them and always make them feel welcome.

I wrote to Disney to ask if they could sail past Stromboli after leaving Palermo and this is the reply I got

Dear Brenda,

Thank you for your interest in a Disney Cruise Line Vacation!

Unfortunately, we will not sail close enough to the volcano Stromboli.
I hope this information has been helpful. If you require further
assistance in planning your visit, please feel free to contact us.

We look forward to sailing with you! Have a Magical Day!

Disney Cruise Vacations

Feel this is a shame as it is supposed to be a good sight from the sea and I know many cruise liners linger there for the spectacle.

Wish I had a freephone number for Disney and would definitely give them a phone as it seems silly to pass by and not get a view.

Just watched the Rick Steves show on the Amalfi coast. While there are a lot of things that are great looking in the Naples area, including Capri, I can't see how I would want to spend half a day taking a tour to look at the blue groto. Basically, a cave with water. For that matter, seeing a building that is leaning half over doesn't seem like the best use of half a day either. This is our first trip to the area, and I don't think I want to spend a lot of time out of our one day there, not to mention money, to seem things that aren't all that interesting to begin with. I suspect there will be some great tours in all the ports, but since we have a limited time, I would want to see the most we can in the day.

Perhaps if you put down some of your interests those that have visited the countries could help you. You seem a bit negative and perhaps this would help

I just got off the phone with DCL - they finally have some information on a post-cruise excursion to Disneyland Paris. (I didn't see anything on the website.)

Disney is offering a three night hotel and length of stay (both parks/hopper) ticket package with ground transportation and an air option.

The price depends on the hotel. Newport Bay is $700/adult and Hotel New York is $770/adult. This includes ground transport from the Paris airport to DLP but not anything from the ship to the Paris airport.

They don't have price with air from Barcelona (and I assume ground from the ship to the Barcelona airport) is not yet available.

I don't know what the luggage allowance with that air option will be. I hope that they'd apply US rules. (Remembe that luggage allowances/charges in Europe are very different than luggage allowances in the US and on international flights. The second bag charge in Europe can easily be more than the ticket on low cost airlines.)

Wow, thanks for the info! We're definitely going to DLP after the cruise so it would be great to do it as an add on rahter than plan everything ourselves.

Somehow do not think you will be talking about low cost airlines between Barcelona and Paris as it will probably be Iberia or Air France and they are scheduled flights. You should be able to find out luggage allowance on these from their web site.

Have to correct my last posting as have found a company offering flights cheap between the two cities they are a company called Vueling who I have never heard of. They are offering flights between Barcelona and Paris next June for 50 Euro.

There baggage terms are as follows:-
