I know there doesn't seem like there is any rhyme or reason to how upgrades are given, but I was wondering if someone in the travel industry out there could explain a little bit about cruise lines use of Guaranteed Staterooms and Upgrades.
For instance, what is the purpose of a Category going to Guarantee status? Is it full or almost full?
Someone once told me they thought they left the lower categories open and just kept upgrading some people up in order to sell cabins at the more popular categories.
After six cruises on DCLwhere we booked a specific cabin, we're booked on # 7 in a Cat. 10 GTY.
Just curious about the 'why's" and "wherefors".
