Hey everyone!

My husband is prone to motion sickness, but to show you to what extent he can handle it I'll list a few rides he has ridden.

He likes:
--Splash Mountain
--Test Track
--Star Tours

He doesn't do roller coasters.....Big Thunder, Space Mountain, he refuses to go on these.

Do you think he'll be able to handle the Matterhorn Bobsled? (As I recall, you're just gliding down the mountain.) I haven't ridden it since I was 7 years old, so I don't know if my husband will be able to ride it.

thanks,
Michelle

Likes Splash Mountain and Star Tours, doesn't like Big Thunder and Space Mountain?! Sounds like a 50/50 shot to me. I wouldn't call Matterhorn a "gliding" ride, although there are sections of the ride that move quite smoothly and fast. IMO, I find that the Matterhorn is a rougher ride that BTMRR, BTMRR is (was?) faster than the Matterhorn.

I would agree....Matterhorn is pretty bumpy/rough, but not really that fast at all, except for maybe a few short sections. Definitely not like BTMRR (my fave!)

It's not that he doesn't like Big Thunder and Space Mountain, he's never been on these two rides because their roller coasters.

I convinced him to ride Splash Mountain because it's more of a log ride. And Star tours is a simulator ride. Because of his motion sickness, he's NEVER RIDDEN rollercoasters in his entire life. And he refuses to go on them.

I thought he might enjoy the Matterhorn, because it's not really like a rollercoaster since you're only going down hill.

Thanks for the posts!

I would skip it to be safe. I can do some rides and get motion sick on others. Matterhorn was recently completely redone. It seems faster and rougher than I remembered. My kids (5 & 7 at the time) loved it. It really is not scary for younger ones but it can be bumpy and fast.

I would stick to something you know DH won't get sick on. Don't want to ruin the rest of the day.

If you do ride it, ride the side where you get in line by the Alice in Wonderland Ride. That side is a tamer ride.

I get sick on all the simulator rides like Star Tours. I also get sick (but still ride them sometimes!) on roller coasters like Space Mountain, Rock'n Rollercoaster and California Screamin'. I love riding the Matterhorn but it is pretty mild so I just am barely starting to get a bit sick as the ride ends. It is a bit rough and can hurt your butt though!

I got so sick on Star Tours from the motion. I don't really care for roller coasters but Big Thunder I can handle. We didn't make it on the Matterhorn this time, didn't want to face the line and it doesn't have a Fast Pass. From last time though I remember the jerky motions and wonder if that would bother him if he doesn't do roller coasters.

Is he planning on doing Indiana Jones ride? It's very similar to the Dinasour ride at AK in WDW. If he makes it through that ride he'll be able to do any others with no problem. I love that ride but it's been know to make me a little queasy.

If he decides to try a rollercoaster I recommend Screaming California in DCA. That ride is so smooth. It's my favorite rollercoaster of all time.

Technically, the Matterhorn is a roller coaster--it's listed as the first tubullar steel track coaster. I find the ride very rough--much rougher than BTM or Space Mountain. I would think it would aggrevate motion sickness more than the others. I wouldn't know because I don't get motion sick. I've known many people who get sick on Star Tours, though.

Actually, he just rode Dinosaur in AK a couple months ago, and it didn't bother him at all!!
So at least he can ride Indiana Jones. :D

Once we get there, I'll show him The Matterhorn and let him make the disicion. I'm going on it either way!

Thanks everyone,

I have a tendency for motion sickness, especially after eating. I have never had any trouble at all with Matterhorn, for motion sickness although I do agree it is indeed bumpy. Indiana is also bumpy, but not stomach turning. Like some of the others, I find Star Tours the most troublesome for motion sickness. Next is Space Mountain but as long as I avoid the front seat it's not bad. Even though Screaming is very smooth, both it and Soaring can twist my tummy a tad. And of course the tea cups should be avoided, especially if you have a spinner in your group. But, again, Matterhorn has never been a problem for me. My advice is to try it, but not after a big meal.

The Matterhorn, Space Mountain, and BTMRR, are all similar types of coasters. But IMHO, The Matterhorn is a little rougher than BTMRR or SM, but also doesn't as much "air time", and so is probably not quite as bad for motion sickness.
