I already knew this was big but I didn't know the difference was 38%. We discussed this in my women in politics class. Its kinda neat that with just 5 or 6 different criteria you can almost predict what party a person is registered with and who they are going to vote for.

Married women who don't work outside the home are solidly Republican — a "turnout group."

Not me...but I do know alot that will. It seems to rest on the abortion issue.

Hmmm... I think it more frequently rests on national security and on financial issues rather than things like the abortion stance.

In my corner of the world, I see folks who are most concerned about the government TAKING their money as Republican, those who are more interested in the government PROVIDING money or programs as Democrat.

Since married couples are more likely to have higher incomes, the gap this article describes doesn't seem at all surprising.

I have had the same political views before and after marriage. My husband did not and does not sway my views at all. We rarely talk about politics but we are on the same side most of the time.

It is interesting though that all 3 of his sister (all married) have different political views of the 4 brothers. They all came to an agreement years ago to not discuss politics when they get together.

Interesting article. I am unmarried and I will be voting for Bush just as I did in 2000. When I do get married I will still vote Republican. I guess I am in the minority as far as this article.

I have voted (mostly) Republican since I turned 18, waayy before I got married. For some local officials I have voted Democrat, so I don't blindly vote party lines.

But, I will say when I worked with the public for many, many years and it was election time (I worked in a public school running a very large after school program) most of the married moms were voting Republican and most of the single moms were voting Democrat. It was just interesting how voting just seemed to split that way. And it wasn't always about income level either.

Like SC Minnie, my marital status has had no effect on my voting record. I'd rather not vote at all than vote for President Bush. (and believe me, I hold my right to vote among my *most* cherished possesions!)
