The Many Magic Band question?

For my upcoming trip I am traveling with my two boys and my older son's best friend. We are doing a split stay and we have two rooms (one for me and one DS and the other for DS and BF) at each hotel.

I am listed on each room, since I am the only adult, seems I'm going to get 4 magic band for the trip.

I am trying to confirm that each individual magic band will work the same for the entire trip. Considering getting four different colors!

They are all linked to the same MDE account.

Thanks!

All of your Magic Bands will work interchangeably for room charging, park admission, and FPs. Room entry can be tricky, though; in theory, they're supposed to all work, but for me, they never do. The CMs at check in always ask me to present the bands I want to use as keys, and they do something to them. I might just have bad luck, but I'm at the point where I always ask for a key card so I can wear whatever band I want and not have to worry about which band will open my door (or not).

I must be having the same luck then!!! Every single time I do a split stay, the CM asks for my MB. Like an idiot, I hand it over. Then, it doesn't work to open the new door!!! Now, those traveling with me, have no such issues. But, the CM didn't take their MB!! Then, when I return to the front desk to have it corrected, they always try to tell me it's my MB, not their system.
I have to wonder if there have been times that I have checked in at the new resort prior to 11am...checkout time for the previous resort. But, there are many times that it is after 11 that I checkin at the new resort, and the band still doesn't work. Go figure.

I had a cm tell me once you can only have 8 active mbs in your account at one time. So make INACTIVE any bands you don't need. You can change them in the future.

Dd was with her bf in May and I didn't realize she had 10 active. So when hers wouldn't work I fixed it from home and then they were able to get it to work there.

My results are the opposite. I too have had multiple stays with multiple bands. And we have had issues with bands associated with Resort A not working at Resort B to open the door. But, I do give the bands to the CM at the desk and the CM scans them with a device that resembles a smart phone. After that, they do open the doors. I was under the impression that is done to add that band to the database for that resort's room access. The CM then also checks the bands for the others in the party and makes sure theirs registers as able to access the room. That has fixed our room access problem each time. Now I do it when we check in vs. heading to the room to check just in case.

@goofy4tink , I think it does have something to do with the split stay because I never have that problem at resort #1! But I always hand over all the MBs I want to use as keys at the second resort (which is always Y&BC), and it's always an issue. Twice they've had to take the MBs for a while and give me a key card for entry in the meantime. But, like @trishadono said, I have a zillion MBs associated with my account--I'll deactivate them and see if I have better luck in August!

So those CMs feel that scanning multiple bands will work, but it doesn't.

I have 9 just on my own. They all work.

And these CMs are checking all of them?

I swear it's all just voodoo. Each CM has their pet idea.

We once got a phone call from SSR after we had checked in and gone about our day that we had to have all the keycards remade (this is as they were heading into RFID cards). They said that none of them would work for anything. But we got into SSR holding one of them up to the scanner LOL. We went along with their plan but I really doubt there was anything wrong.

I have them scan one band, I have no problems and neither does anyone else in my travel party, for room-key purposes at least. Charging is another, but I've ALWAYS had off/on experiences with charging.

OP your bands will work! Barring any glitches. If a glitch happens, get it fixed. :)

We just did a split stay (Poly & Yacht) last week. I told Disney in advance not to send us second sets of magic bands. At the 2nd resort they scanned our bands to make the new room entries work. No problems, and loved having no extra bands to mix up!

They scan all of them so I assume they are checking all of them. I'm the primary account holder. They take my band, scan it with the device. I've been told, "it's fine, they'll all work". And I've been told "nope, I need to set it to work at this resort, let's see the others in the party and do theirs too."
