The books are "loosely" based on my family's history, but are fiction. It's actually a trilogy and she's working on the last book now.

In the first book, she mentions me and my sister in the authors notes.

This is an excellent book about a young man and the adventures he encounters while seeking to make a life for himself. It takes place around the turn of the century. It has everything: Action, romance, suspense, etc. and is exquisitely written. I highly recommend it.

This book is well-written and engaging. I would highly recommend this book for anyone, especially those who love historical fiction. Ms. Widen really makes the characters come to life. She leaves the reader wanting more, more, more!!! Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

Historical fiction at its best. This book grabs you immediately and pulls you into the story. A real page-turner than leaves you wanting more. When's the next one come out??

Well to keep this in compliance with the DIS rules I will post what happened at the Princess Breakfast: My version, otherwise known as the Truth.

We arrived at the Akershush. It is irritating how you have to wait for your name to be called b/c for one, you have to be right there with all the other hundreds of little girls and their families, all waiting anxiously. Moan Boy is starting to lose it, so I took him to the Maelstrom place by the water where the boat comes out a little bit and talk to him. He seems ok, but I can smell trouble coming. I got a little ahead of myself on the last report-I hadn't yet given him the time out and taken away swimming yet.

So we go back to wait by the entrance and they start calling names. Ours was 3rd so we head in, get the picture with Belle and sit down. We hit the buffet tables and I do have to say, they had an awesome cheese there! I grabbed a ton and dug in. Loud Girl looks at me and says, "You're eating that like a pig!" Only she said it in admiration. Eating like a pig is a good thing to her, I guess.

So we sit there and sit there and sit there and no princesses and no food. Moan Boy starts to get agitated. Loud Girl starts in, "Where are those princesses???" Buzz is wolfing beers like a pig. I'm in heaven.

Our food finally arrives and we, of course, have to take the eating pictures. STill no princesses!!! Now I'm starting to get irritated! Where the heck are they??? We actually finish our food and I got a glimpse of something ruffly and ostentatious. Could it be a princess? Yes! It was! I think our first one was the Ugly Ariel. LG was so happy-we've never seen Ariel before outside of the Voyage Under the Sea show. I was kind of happy too. I love seeing new characters. Especially rare ones!

So we take the pictures. Moan Boy is turning like Amish cheese in the sun. Buzz is ready to go, but I said, "NO!!" He isn't ruining this for Loud Girl. She loves this stuff and we were going to meet all the princesses no matter what. So they bring out Jane and I see Aurora and Jasmine over yonder. I really wanted a picture of me with a princess too, but Trey is just out of control so I whisk him off to the bathroom and give Buzz instructions to take lots of pictures!!

He grunts something at me and off we go. I take Trey into the bathroom and use my stern voice to tell him he just has to do things he doesn't want to do. He isn't going to get his way and we are going back into the Princess Fiasco. I mean lunch.

We come back and Buzz is visibly surprised to see us. "Hey! You're back!" Where else would we be? Yeah, too much beer at lunch is never good.

So Moan Boy sits at a table away from us, clearly annoyed, but this is ok b/c we can ignore him easier. The more attention you pay to him during a fit, the worse he gets. If we just leave him alone, he's ok. And he was.

So here comes Aurora and Loud Girl is in hog heaven. So I'm thinking, I want my picture with Jasmine. I think she's my favorite princess, if I had to pick one. It certainly isn't Jane!

And here comes Jasmine. Now I'm strictly impartial here, but Jasmine is a hottie so I'm a little intimidated. She gets her picture with LG and I stand up and start to walk toward her.

I immediately see how tiny and petite she is and I start to act like I dropped something on the floor. No way am I taking a picture with this woman! I'd look like Amazon Woman, Queen of the Giant People.

So I fumble on the floor until she's gone and we grab Moan Boy and head out. That when he decides he's happy and doesn't need a time out. Buzz is starting to cave, but I say, "Set the precedent!" He's going to get a time out and miss some swimming, but not all of it. He can have a little swimming time. After all, I am Amazon Woman, Queen of the Giant People. I have to be fair with my rulings, what with my new title and all. Btw, that was a self proclaimed title. Buzz had no part of that. Although, one time he did compliment me. We were out to eat and he said, "You know, Linnie, even though you're big, you look really nice when you dress up." Yeah, I picked a sweetie.

Next up: Queen of the Giant People leads her troops into the Battle of the Love Bugs!!

Linnie- As a fellow Glamazon Warrior Princess, I hear ya! But if you want to feel petite, I'll pose for a picture with you (but I'm not gonna wear a Jasmine costume,thanks). Buzz was surprised to see you because after 4 or 5 beers, Ugly Ariel was lookin' hot.

Oh goodie, lovebugs coming up! I think Florida should drop bug spray from airplanes or something. I actually inhaled one once. Ack!

PS-I'm hiding all the brooms in out house, but I don't think that'll do any good. Buzz'll find a way to make me sniff the smelly shorts. That just might be my demise. Sniffing that hazard.

Blue-I forgive you. I'd do it for a pin too!

Thanks for the b-day wishes for Loud Girl. I can't wait to see how her day went. She's sooo excited!! She dressed up all fancy and stuff.
