The Magic is Gone

I feel for the op. It sounds like a crappy day. But I must say I'm surprised theft does not occur more often from strollers. You see them all over the place with tons of stuff on them with nobody around.

We were at DL a week ago from last monday and we waited for the fireworks. They got cancelled due to high winds and my first thought was "oh no, our trip must be overlapping with GatorChris's!", haha.

HAHA! Yes! If fireworks are cancelled, there's a good change I'm there, right??? Yeah, I think I've earned that rep.

If it was parked in stroller parking, another kid probably snagged it while they were getting picked up in their stroller (especially if it was in the seat or clearly visible). I'm sure when the parent eventually saw their kid with it, they didn't know where it came from. Nevertheless, still a bummer to happen.

Also a bummer about the fireworks. We've done front row at the castle and sat from 6:00 p.m. until fireworks at 9:25 p.m. only to hear that they were on a delay and then eventually cancelled 15 minutes past start time due to high winds. Over 3.5 hours of waiting on cold, hard concrete in the middle of December! To make a long story short, it was probably one of our favorite memories at the parks! It's all about what you make of it. Not to say it isn't sad when they do get cancelled, but even a negative experience can be turned into a positive one.


I hope you eventually get to see those fireworks and have a more enjoyable rest of your trip! I'm sending some pixie dust your way!

Thanks everyone for the positive vibes and pixie dust! We asked at Lost & Found and there was one there but it wasn't ours and we didn't want to take someone else's. So DH bought DS another one. Our last day went well so we are not too upset. DH did mention he felt like the cast members were not as nice as before and he usually doesn't notice or care about such things....

Someone above mentioned maybe the Magic was never there to begin with. But I feel like it was. Last time I came to Disneyland, I cried walking down Main Street the first morning because I was so happy to be there. This time I left crying because of disappointment. Just feels like those special touches that were so Disney were not there anymore. One little example was when we took our older son to meet Mickey 7 years ago, we were led into Mickey's room family by family and had our own time with him. The photographer was able to capture the look on my son's face when he first saw Mickey. It was priceless And I treasure it. This time we were just ushered into the room as a group and the photographer was too busy with the first family to capture my younger son's first glance at Mickey. Anyway, maybe it's just a small thing but I will never forget it.

I think we've all had Disney days that don't go as planned and it can be super disappointing. For me though, within a few days I only remember the good stuff. And when you are at Disneyland, there are so many wonderful memories to cherish. I hope you find the bubble blower at lost and found. I can imagine a kid grabbing it as they walk by, thinking it was theirs (those things are everywhere). Call me naively optimistic, but we tend to leave a lot of our purchases etc in our stroller. I just can't imagine many people visiting the happiest place on earth and choosing to steal from someone. Of course we'd never leave our wallets or anything super valuable in there.

You're obviously someone who really enjoys every minute you get at DLR. Sometimes people judge to quickly. I know cause, sadly, sometimes I'm that person. But you don't need to defend yourself.

Ugh. It sounds like you had a rough day. It is such a bummer when that happens. I feel like it happens to us once every 2-3 vacations, weather it is Disney or another vacation. It is just so disappointed to have "one of those days" when you are on a highly anticipated vacation. Glad to hear the next day went better for you!

I totally get this. I'm not a sentimental or sappy person at all, but we go to Disney for that magical feeling. One time our family was selected to open the park. Magical. One time DH and I were all alone on the first boat on Pirates, his favorite ride. Magical. Sometimes the magical moments were more simple, like an older brother taking his younger brother on Space Mountain for the first time and loving it. I guess it is hard to describe if someone else doesn't feel that way. I do hope that after awhile you'll mostly remember the good moments of your trip!

My DH works in the Pyrotechnic industry - Disneyland fireworks have far greater restrictions (residential areas so nearby, winds, etc...) than WDW's; therefore, they are much more likely to be cancelled.

That sounds like a real bummer of a day - I hope today turns around for you!!

Hi all, back home now and missing Disney already! Thanks for all the responses! All the kind words and encouragement here actually is part of the Magic . So thank you all for spreading some of the Magic even after our trip.

Not sure if this question was for me.... But I just try to be thankful to be there and thankful that we can afford to buy DS another bubble blower. Also, our last day we met up with friends that were on their first day so it was really nice to enjoy our kids having fun at Disney together . And it was fun to have another adult to wait in line with since DH and I have had to child swap every time at Disney.

Sad reminder that even inside the magical Disneyland bubble, life can suck. After all, you are just inside a theme park in Anaheim.
The great days far outweigh the bad. If the worst thing that happens is a $20 toy gets stolen, in the grand scheme of things it's OK.
