It all worked out beautifully, except that my mother and niece had their luggage "misplaced" by British Air and didn't get their bags until Madeira. It was awful! We did manage to pick up some clothes in Barca before boarding, but they were very unhappy campers for the first several days of the trip.

I remember hearing about this and thinking how terrible that must have been to have lost luggage!

I also remember someone from the DIS group having their mother pass away while we were on board and she had to fly back home to Boston(?) from Madeira or Gibraltar and it was quite an ordeal. I can't remember her username, though I believe she met a bunch of us down at WDW the day we disembarked for lunch at Earl of Sandwich.

Not too bad, really, but the cold that was coming on all weekend has now hit him full force. Poor thing. I should whack him up with some heavy-duty meds, ask him if I should go ahead and officially book the cruise, and interpret "hrmmrmm," as "yes."

I'm so glad he is better! And yes, that is a good plan!!!!

We took the Aerobus, too. Super easy way to get from the airport. Where did you stay last time? We were at the Continental Palacete. Funky, but nice.

We had fun riding the Aerobus with you two I should have taken pictures in the airport to remember exactly where we went.... I think we were half asleep!!!

I am back to get through this cruise, and am really looking forward to seeing everyone i had just met, and have yet to meet. A few of my wonderful friends are already on this cruise, and you did meet them at the Earl of Sandwich too that day.

Yes and no...10 days after my mom's funeral, my daughters convinced me to go back and meet my cruise roommates along with 2 other special ladies, one of whom is on this WBTA.
We were in the Earl of Sandwich, and saw you with Laura , so I went over and spoke to you all. Hoping that I have a chance to meet you both once again..... so, no, you were not imagining things!!!

...btw, has anyone heard if Laura will be on this cruise?

I remember shlepping a ridiculous amount of luggage (which I absolutely needed, every bit of it), checking into our hotel, ditching the luggage, and after that... not a clue.

Oh, and that cattle barge of a flight! That was just insane. Good thing it was cheap.

I now know that if Dennis and I could survive the flight and that first day without killing each other, we can survive anything.

J took a nap against my warnings after landing (never sleep, power through the jet lag!) and he was more than pleasant that evening after waking up.

We were up 3am the day we flew out....didn't sleep on the plane once we got to Spain did the hop on off bus...ended up getting lost in downtown finally made it to the hotel. I think we went to bed by 5 that day....... learned a few lessons

You know - elbows jammed in to ribs, bending mouth down to fork rather than moving fork to mouth. Fun times. I want to win the lotto if for no other reason than to be able to fly in something other than chicken coop class.

Yes, we did find some fairly decent coffee at the airport. Although at that point, hot and caffeinated was all I was looking for. I had mine chugged before we even got to the Aerobus.

for us that 3 of us are deaf, I can lip reading and listen, and we had an interpreters since 4th Cruise and they are so wonderful.. I know lots of people enjoyed to watch their show at theatre on the Cruise.

Wow, sound great. When we met ASL an interpreters, we often swap or share sign languages which was fun.

MandyGirl is a tutor and former teacher (and former principal, I think?) and I'm a former teacher, and I think we'd both say your DS will have educational opportunities on this trip that he would never get in school! I know there were kids on the 2011 trip who did school work while they were on-board.

I'm sure you can handle anything they would give your DS, but if not, there will likely be a few teachers/former teachers around who would be willing to help. I believe our standard charge is one FAB/RAB. (See previous post on beverage terminology.)

Yep! I taught math for grades 6-12 and did my principal internship... but started staying home after #2 was born. We will be taking our oldest out of the start of second grade even if that means me withdrawing her from school and homeschooling (can do that in our state). The educational opportunities are awesome! In fact, for our EBTA in May we have a 150-page packet uploaded onto our facebook group that families can print out. It has activities that start with airplanes (for flying to trip), to facts about each port of call. So many educational opportunities! Life on Earth is short --- live it, do it! Family first. (I know I am in the minority though...)

I'm telling ya, the 5 year old had the aisle seat, and those two are both so skinny they could've shared a seat! And I had the kid deciding to be on top of me at all times. Flown just fine everywhere else, but no, the one time we get her a seat when she could've flown free in my lap, she decides to plop herself in my lap all 6 hours....
