MELONMOM, MOMMYP, GEORGIA A-please join us for a cup of joe, and anyone else......
Well, with an invitation like that, I will pop over and see what it's all about, but I'm sort of with LaLa and the others wondering, "Why?" I hope to be enlightened when I go to get me some Joe (with extra sugar and cream, why drink it if it doesn't taste like candy?)
I missed the goings on yesterday, and here is why:
At 4:30p on Tuesday, I received an e-mail from my M-I-L, yada yada yada, and I have to go to the great city (Atlanta) tomorrow to see a specialist about my pre-cancerous throat condition.
Dadgummit! Being the dutiful DIL that I am, I respond asking her if she needed someone to go with her. Mind, I was already devising plans of torture in my mind for the colleague who left for DISNEY without telling me and told his agency that I would cover Court for them! It took MIL at least 20 minutes (and four more e-mails) to decide that she did want me to go with her. And I DIDNT talk her into it in the least, I was trying to talk her out of it. So at 4:53 (my workday ends at 5:00), she decides that I need to accompany her. DADGUMMIT!
THEN I had to call my sister office and find someone to cover the Court that I was covering for someone else. And THEY dont actually work for either my agency or the sister agency for which I was covering! (Confusing enough?) Crisis averted by 5:05 and notifications sent to all relevant parties.
So MIL calls me on my way home to discuss plans for the next day. Her appointment was at 2:00 p.m. It takes 2 hours to get there. It was pure folly for me to ask what time she wanted to leave. The answer was obvious. I should have known. Well, exactly, we were going to leave at 9 a.m.! She wanted to stop and do some shopping on the way, naturally! (Okay, as an aside, I have placed myself on a very tight non-frivolous spending budget b/c I decided I was wasting too much money. Plus, yesterday was the day BEFORE my pay and my husbands pay was set to hit the bank, so I didnt have any spare cash anyway, unless I irresponsibly pulled it out of the money market.) Shopping! Great idea! Ive got NOTHING better to do!
Then, get this, we make it to the big city, and she didnt bring either the directions to or the address of the doctors office where she had the appointment. Navigation by stars??? (Her daughter, my SIL, is a PA for a plastic surgeon in the same area. She was supposed to go with us. MIL knows how to get to her office. SIL got stuck in surgery. We were supposed to be at the doctors in 20 minutes and it was a 10 minute trip from SILs building. I advised looking up the address & phone number, calling and getting directions. It took 7.5 minutes to decide that that might be a good idea. REALLY?!? THERE IS NO FASTPASS TO THE DOCTORS OFFICE!)
Right around the time we got the phone # and called for directions, SIL called and met us at the door to her building and came with us after all. Thank goodness. She stayed in the room with MIL to hear the myriad symptoms. I got to read Time in the lobby. I liked where I was a lot better than where she was!
We made it back home without incident. Although I did get to hear allllll the dirt on my husbands family. The trip was educational after all!
But I would still rather be playing with all of you. So, since everyone seems to be in the mood for different coffee, I may have to be brave and cross the street to the "other" coffeeshop!
