Last week, had the car in to have tires checked as I kept hearing a noise. The guys put it up on the up-thing and checked the tires, tie rods, bunch of crap, and said there was nothing wrong. Told them I was not imagining the noise, but they insisted it was fine. So, I left, but kept wondering when whatever it was would break.
Today, I went for an oil change, like I've done every 3,000 miles for the last however many years. But, today the guys say, "Ma'am, could you come over and see this please?"
Me: I don't need to see it, I don't know anything about cars and won't know the difference. Please just tell me how much it will cost.
Guys: Please get out and come see this. You'll know what this is.
Me (getting out of car): OK, but I'm not going to know anything.
So, I walk over and look into where the guy is pointing (turns out is was the inside of the thingy that holds the "Air Filter.") and I look in to see...ACORNS! About 30 of them.
Some critter has been crawling into the car when I leave it outisde and storing acorns in it. It has also been chewing or clawing up and ripping to shreads my Air Filter. DH said they like warm cars, but will stop now that their supply has been disturbed.
I'm pleased that the source of my mystery noise has been discovered, but feel a little guilty...some poor little squirrel or chipmunk is going to think it has its winter food stored up and will now starve in the bitter cold of winter because I've callously depleted its supply.
