DOSING: For minor aches, mild to moderate pain, menstrual cramps and fever the usual adult dose is 200 or 400 mg every 4 to 6 hours. Arthritis is treated with 300 to 800 mg 3 or 4 times daily. When under the care of a physician, the maximum dose of ibuprofen is 3.2 g daily. Otherwise, the maximum dose is 1.2 g daily. Individuals should not use ibuprofen for more than 10 days for the treatment of pain or more than 3 days for the treatment of a fever unless directed by a physician.

Children 6 months to 12 years of age usually are given 5-10 mg/kg of ibuprofen every 6-8 hours for the treatment of fever and pain. The maximum dose is 40 mg/kg daily. Juvenile arthritis is treated with 20 to 40 mg/kg/day in 3-4 divided doses.

Ibuprofen should be taken with meals.

Thanks, Cy, I have 600 mg of ibuprofen on board.............I wanna know if anyone knows how much tylenol I can REALLY take (not what's on the bottle, if you kwim).

Paige- I normally take 2 500ml tablets of tylenol. Hope that helps.

Okay, never mind cousins, sorry to get in the way of the chat. It's all good.

Paige, according to the orthopedist I see about my foot; you can take 800 mg. of ibuprofen every 8 hrs. and alternate 2 500 mg tylenol on the 4th hr. so that you are taking a pain reliever every 4 hrs. with one being an anti-infamatory (ibuprofen).

You can safely take 600 mg of Motrin every six hours as needed for SHORT TERM pain. Most Over the counter Motrin comes in 200 mg tabs.
I would alternate Tylenol & Motrin, so you can take something every 3 hours.
(2 500 mg. Tylenol, then 3 hours later 600 mg Motrin, then the tylenol, then the motrin etc. etc.)

Be sure this is short term only!

It's not.

I don't know Kar, it just got this way. I stepped out of the van when I got home from work one day and it just hurt. I limp and it hurts when I walk, just dull ache at the end of the day when I don't. It's been since the end of August. I went to the dr. but he said nothing on xray, so gave me a referral tosee a specialist and get a bone scan done. Too many darn medical bills right now, so I don't really want to go.

My school nurse said 600 ibuprofen, but to try to keep it to once a day. It's because I went shopping at Walmart, too much walking after a whole day at work.
