Well, it's certainly not all of them. I have a 'tweener' (he's 12), and he does NOT like skinny jeans, or fitted t's. He wears regular loose fit jeans, tshirts or soccer jerseys, a hoodie or a fleeece. Then either running sneakers, indoor soccer shoes, or skate shoes.

Honestly, he looks like a miniature preppy jock which is fine. And he keeps his hair really short. #3 Buzz cut every 4-5 weeks.

My 10 yr old nephew doesn't go for the skinny jeans look either. He wears loose jeans, not falling down, loose shirts and a ballcap. More of a skater look. And he wears his hair short. Not quite a buzzcut.

I so relate to this! DS15 listens to Metallica, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Boston, etc and he looks at me like I have three heads when I know all the words, LOL. He calls it "classic" music, but I tell him the 80's and 90's are not considered classic yet.

Not too skinny though... just a little snug. Don't even get me started on a little guyliner.

Same here. DH is always giving DS14 a hard time about his "long" hair (which is only ear length-not very long at all). I took out a picture of DH from high school and showed him that his hair was longer then than DS's is now . His reply-yes, but that was the style back then . Um, honey, it is the style NOW too.

Skinny jeans are OK on some girls, for those who have the body type to wear those jeans, otherwise I think straight jeans and looser fits are great! When it's on boys, I think it just looks ridiculous! RIDICULOUS!!! I would ablsolutely never let my son go out of my house looking like some of these kids do, extremely tight jeans and long/feathered hair. I don't care if it's been a style previously, it's doesn't stop it from being dumb.

Fashion changes, and I'm going to let my kids wear what the style is at the time. I remember my friend was not allowed to wear "designer jeans" in the late 70's - had to suffer with her faggy Lee's. I kid you not - she ended up addicted to drugs in high school (hey, not saying the jeans were the cause, but you never know...).

She could have my teen dd's, who are 18 & 13. They don't follow ANY fashion. Sooooo disappointing. They refuse to even wear makeup.

I'm glad my girls never followed a trend look. They always dressed classy. I never went through the "black" look, or the baggy pant look. They were not the kids that wanted to stand out or had the need to express themselves. The only bad part of their clothes was the expense.

Ah the stroll down memory lane. As a child wearing hip huggers/bell bottoms. In the 70's wearing Lee cords and jeans, but wanting Gloria Vanderbilt (black velvet with the red swan on the pocket) and Sassoons and Jordache. Tshirts with iron on decals and my name on every shirt. My hightop Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers and Walloughbys (sp?) (by Thom McCann!). Long denim jackets that flaired at the bottom. The 80's WOW!!! Capizzio shoes, parachute pants, shirts with zippers, Bon Jovi fringe leather jacket, Big Hair and even bigger shoulder pads. Members Only jackets and aviator sunglasses. Eyeliner, eyeliner and more eyeliner. Neon everywhere.

When exactly did I get old and out of style? I think it was the mid-late 90's when I became a mom. Kids ruin everything.

Well it's a very good thing it's not considered geeky now These jeans are very trendy now, the only kind of jeans you can find at places like Abercrombie and American Eagle...

I don't know... they can move out if they really want. (Not really... but we'll see when we get there) I'm not having any boys of mine looking like girls.

ETA: Because what I wrote does sound a bit cold...

I don't care if my son's hair is pink, I don't care about any lifestyle he choses as long as he is happy but to say that the ability to wear skin tight jeans making a person happy or not is sad. If telling my son he cannot wear skin tight jeans makes him want to move out of the house or he hates me (genuinely hate not teenage hate) then we have another problem and it's not really about the jeans anyway.

People who know me know that I am a very easy going person. I'd be ok with a lot of styles my children want to embrace but I really feel as a parent, I should be able to put my hand down on things I feel strong about, again, AS THE PARENT. I feel like a lot of people have their "absolutely nots" for some it's piercings, certain colors... for me it's skin tight jeans on boys and long hair on boys. It will not happen in my house and my DFi agrees as do pretty much all of our friends (this has already been a long discussed topic among our friends).

Hopefully it won't even be a problem since this specific trend will be long gone, I can only hope that a similar trend doesn't stick when my kids are in their teens so I don't have to worry about it.
