The dress of boys has changed alot. I don't have a son but I sure don't like the look I see. Skinny jeans, tight t-shirts, and long winged hair. What happened to boys looking like boys? Sometimes I can't tell who is a boy and who is a girl. That also makes me think of the long hair they have. What is up with that? Do they really think it looks good? All I think it would do is cause more breakouts. I guess I'm getting old.

that sounds an awful lot like what teenage guys wore back when i was a kid in the late 1970s and early 1980s. man, i hope that stuff isn't coming back in style!

Actually, I have a teenage daughter so I am around teenage boys often enough to know the style / attire the OP is talking about. I also grew up in the 70s. The hair today is much shorter than a lot of the guys I knew back then. The OP thinks s/he is getting old. I am guessing they are not old enough or they would look back that far and realize the kids today are much better groomed than boys were back then. ;) You know, styles and trends come and go. This too shall pass. I certainly would never use these fashions to judge these kids. They're just being typical teenagers. My guess, OP, is that when you were growing up the generation above you probably complained about the short cuts or whatever. I grew up in the 70's and will never forget when the girls of the 80's started wearing big hair and dressing like Madonna. They were scandalous! Then they grew up and started complaining about the girls and boys and how they dress today. And so it goes......

I guess my DS15 is not the "Scene" kid, LOL. He wears cargo jeans, band tshirts and a band hoodie each day.

My mom and dad could have written that same post, only it would have been about 1973. Honestly, adults have been saying the same things about the way teens dress probably since the beginning of time. And teens have been dressing in ways that make adults uncomfortable since that same time. It's just what they do to set themselves apart. It's clothes and hair, nothing more. They like the way they look, we get a good laugh and think back on our teens years and the ridiculous outfits we wore...;)

Very well said and I totally agress especially with the part of not judging these kids just by the way they dress. I hope people don't judge my DS16 by the way he dress (jeans, short and old school heavy metal shirts) because he is one of the sweetest kids I know, and I'm not just saying that because I'm his mom.

Well, except for the 'jeans' part - since dungarees/jeans were invented mid-nineteenth century ;)

But, yeah - the skinny jeans and tight t-shirts (and not the winged hair so much as the "cool" duck's @$$ style) is what came immediately to mind; I thought this thread was going to be a joking rant about styles from the fifties!

And all I can say is "thank heavens!" Those skinny jeans have finally replaced those huge baggy jeans with no belts (prison look) where the pants are literally falling off and all of the underwear is hanging out. I'll take fitted skinny jeans any day over that!

I think the new teen boy "look" is very 80's punk, so it's pretty familiar. ;)

I was shopping at Hot Topic for DD the other day and DH and I were chatting with the kid behind the counter. He was wearing black skinny jeans, had more piercings than I've seen in awhile (lip, eyebrow, nose, etc) and had long "flipped" hair with blue and red highlights. He was absolutely delightful - the nicest kid I've talked to in a long time. DH stayed and chatting with him about industrial rock for a bit (and the kid was so excited that he met someone who new "first wave" music, which made me refer to DH and grandpa for the rest of the day).

Admittedly, the boy's appearance was very different, but I told DH when we left that I wish my DD had more friends like him! :goodvibes

Not so fast....the skinny jeans are just skinny in the leg. The waist still sits very, very low! Sorry.

And OP, if you are waiting for teenage boys to all look like they are in the military, with uniform looks and short, neat hair. You are going to be waiting for a long, LONG time. It will never happen. Never has, never will.

I vastly prefer the look of today's boys to those of the 60s and 70s. And they 80s were just ridiculous (although I didn't think so at the time!) LOL!

:scared1:  OH NO YOU DI'INT! :scared1: Not a fan of Bon Jovi! :scared1:

:rotfl: The 80's was a time when the men were much prettier than the women and wore more makeup than the women. There'll always be a special place in my heart for 1980's Jon Bon Jovi. (And all the hair metal bands).

OP, I have to admit, it's not my favorite style either, but I've seen it before. Boys and men had long hair in the 70's, the 80's and now. And I too prefer the tighter fitting clothing to that thug rapper, wanna see my boxers crap the kids were wearing a few years ago.

I also believe if the music is too loud -- you're too old! Rock on! :woohoo:

I'm still trying to figure out how wearing your jeans down around your ankles became a "style". :confused3

Really old, if you've never seen this before. It's straight out of the early-mid 70's, only on boys the hair is shorter and smoother than it was then.

Mystery Machine, thanks for the link. I had no idea DD was actually rocking a "scene" look. Never heard of it before but she fits most of the list. I must pay more attention...

I remember when I was a teen, I loved boys with long blonde curly hair, and tight Levi's - think Robert Plant! I also prefer these new tight jeans over the oversized ones belted across the butt with the boxers hanging out! :rotfl2:

Every generation goes through the long hair/short hair, tight jeans/loose jeans phases. Ds11 grows his hair out all year (with a couple trips to the salon with mom), and then buzzes it on the first day of summer. :cool1: At least he doesn't sport that every popular 80's mullet! :scared1:

LOL, well, luckily the boys in my DD's high school are wearing skinny jeans all the way up (think like the Jonas Brothers) and not the other which were hugely baggie (usually 2 sizes too big) all the way down.

And, can we all just promise to never speak of the fashion in the 80s again? We just found some photos from back then and I'm thinking we should just burn them and pretend it didn't happen!
