THE LIBERAL THREAD #3- No Debate Please

I don't think it is unreasonable in their part to start asking, "When will you be leaving?"

I suspect LOG was "tongue in cheek". ;)

Btw, I don't think it is unreasonable to assume the blood and treasure that went to securing oil leases for Bush's oil buddies will go the same they did 30+ years ago. The Iraqis will nationalize the oil wells once the American presence is gone.

Begs the question, did this moron ever think of purchasing a mousetrap? Or were there no Walmart Supercenters near her trailer park?

Woman shoots self while trying to kill mice

A Mendocino County woman who was trying to kill mice in her trailer with a gun ended up shooting herself and another person.

I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel much safer knowing she's just one of countless millions of gun-toting morons with "Jack Bauer" fantasies. I get a warm fuzzy all over over just thinking she could be standing in line next to me and my family at the Haunted Mansion in WDW.

How about you? :scared:

OTOH, look on the bright side: Two guns off the streets. :lmao:

I was hoping it was "tongue in cheek". I have been reading another thread and I can't believe how xenophobic and arrogant the posters were about the rest of the world. I had concerns that this one might be the same.

As for nationalizing the oil wells, let them. Afterall, it is their oil.

'Twas tongue in cheek...no worries.

Well now...

why not tell us how you really feel?

Too something... for sure.

Regardless what BS the NRA puts out, it would be a safe bet that not all gun owners are responsible owners and far too many have a "Jack Bauer" fantasy. Case in point: The morons who were opining that if someone had a gun, they could've stopped the killings at Virgina Tech. Enter "Jack Bauer" who plants his feet, stares down the barrels of 2 semi-automatics but still fires off one perfect shot that drops the gun man. Never hits an innocent bystander with a stray shot. Ahh, the hero.

Here are the facts: Most people couldn't hit the broadside of barn in perfect calm.

Getting back to the irresponsible gun owner with their "Jack Bauer" fantasy, once in a great while, society at large gets lucky .............. they shoot themselves.

Now there is an argument that seems to get lost on a lot of people. Don't you know all gun owners spend countless of hours on the range perfecting their markmanship, as well as loads of time learning how to shoot in high stress situations.

I'm not going to argue that minute point because I have seen it myself. OTH, I have seen many many more that do practice safe gun handling. But a sure bet would be that all criminals using guns are morons AND unsafe. Not to mention, illegal. Thank you very much but I'll take my chances with the masses of gun owners who don't fall into that category.

IMO there are many more "crazies" on the highway everyday than there are "Jack Bauer" type gun owners. And yet we don't ban cars because of the reckless and criminal use of them. Funny how that is...

But the primary purpose of a car is not to put a hole in someone.

That'd make a great bumper sticker but it doesn't matter IMO. The point is both are used irresponsibly and in some cases criminally but each is treated and seen by the public in vastly different ways. When we talk about drunk driving, we always focus on the driver. Never the vehicle. When we talk about criminal use of firearms, we mostly focus on the person but the firearm gets a fair share of the attention too. In both cases an inanimate object was used irresponsibly by a PERSON. And then you could argue but people need cars. Again, doesn't matter. There are many things in life we need but never take, or attempt to take, away from the public because a few misuse it. We'd have nothing left if we did that.

I wasn't happy that the Senate caved (following the House's lead) on the issue of retroactive immunity for the Telcoms that were GW's accessory to illegal wiretapping.

I was particularly unhappy with Sen. Obama who pledged to fight any bill that inculded such an immunity. Just becuase McCain has been a flip-flopping mess is no reason for our guy to follow suit.

As JFK once said during the Cuban Missile Crises: There's always one SOB who doesn't get word.

In this case the SOB is McCain's financial advisor,Phil Gramm, who said we're a nation of whiners and this recession is a mental.

But, I digress.

Bernanke: economy faces 'numerous difficulties'

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke told Congress Tuesday the fragile economy is facing "numerous difficulties" including persistent strains in financial markets, rising joblessness and housing problems -- despite the Fed's aggressive interest rate reductions and other fortifying steps.

Quick, someone tell McCain who still has Gramm on his staff along with various other lobbyists.

Makes ya wonder what his vote would have been regarding Iraq. It's a lot easier to take a stand against something when you don't have to actually vote on it.

Well, hopefully the American people are smart enough to vote on something other than "What Ifs".

Yes, I think so--but bopth of these candidates need to know that people's memories may not be as short as they would like to think.

This week's roller coaster ride went to Sen. McCain. First, he and Kennedy write comprehensive immigration reform. Then McCain campaigns in NH saying that he learned his lesson and the American people aren't ready for that. Then yesterday he speaks before an all Hispanic audience telling them how it's his number one priority. Weeeeeeee

Yeah, we know. :headache:

Hell they were smarter during the primary. Why would that change during the general election? ;)
