THE LIBERAL THREAD #3- No Debate Please

Wasn't he a name that came up a couple times on the con thread as a VP they would like to see with McCain? :rotfl2: Guess there goes that idea.

Yup, that was him. :lmao:

I've always said that once someone takes a second look at the Bush/Republicans, it opens the flood gates and they never see them in the same light again. It's like a revelation to them. The lightbulb comes on.

As I said before the Democrat party did not bill it's self as the party of "family values", so when drug abuse, infidelity, etc, comes up, it doesn't reek the stench of hypocrisy too much. That's my opinion.

Isn't it pretty widely known that the only people who say Democrat party are typically those who are Republicans? Or maybe that's just my part of the country? I take that as a less than stellar approach when trying to speak to the other sides constituents. As Democrats, we always call it the Democratic party.

Hey, LOG, our friends on the other side of the poltical aisle are right: We are bored. :goodvibes

For our friends on the other side of the political aisle:

Arctic Drilling Wouldn't Cool High Oil Prices
Federal energy analysts say it would take 10 years for production to begin, and its impact could be very modest

Drilling for oil beneath the pristine tundra of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would do little to ease world oil prices, the federal government's energy forecasters said in a new report issued in a week that saw oil surpass $130 per barrel for the first time.

http://www.usnews.com/articles/news...ic-drilling-wouldnt-cool-high-oil-prices.html

Apparently, our friends on the other side of the aisle can't do the simple math when it comes to oil reserves, oil production, and oil use.

The fact is, the US has approximately 3% of the world's oil preserves, but consumes 25% of the oil. How come the other side doesn't know that?

This is also something I've wondered about: How come none of the rightwing gasbags or their devotees ever demand to know what was said at Cheney" Energy summit in 2001?

Document Says Oil Chiefs Met With Cheney Task Force

A White House document shows that executives from big oil companies met with Vice President Cheney's energy task force in 2001 -- something long suspected by environmentalists but denied as recently as last week by industry officials testifying before Congress.

Papers Detail Industry's Role in Cheney's Energy Report

At 10 a.m. on April 4, 2001, representatives of 13 environmental groups were brought into the Old Executive Office Building for a long-anticipated meeting. Since late January, a task force headed by Vice President Cheney had been busy drawing up a new national energy policy, and the groups were getting their one chance to be heard.

I wonder what Cheney and big-oil executives were chatting about ............ on the taxpayer's nickel and time. The Republicans don't think the taxpayer has a right to know and those Republicans include John McCain. Yea, 4 more years. :lmao:

Hey, LOG, our friends on the other side of the poltical aisle are right: We are bored. :goodvibes

And how! ;)

Two Floridians trying to explain the zero likelihood of the first oil drill hitting the waters surrounding our great state and they respond with such challenging topics such shrimp and lasagna? I gotta hand it to them though...the current food related deflections are so much more convincing than the usual GOP approved talking points.

My hope is that Bush continues to insert himself front and center on this coastal oil drilling thing. The more the American public can see our current President and Maverick McCain agreeing on things, the better it is for the general election, both for President and every available Congressional seat out there.

Poll: 3 Key Swing States Put Obama Over McCain
by FOXNews.com
Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Barack Obama is leading John McCain in three key battleground states, a Quinnipiac University poll showed Wednesday.

Pennsylvania, Ohio and Florida are all potential swing states. Obama leads anywhere from 4 to 12 points in the polls taken June 9-16. At least two of the states are critical. Though Obama’s campaign suggested earlier this week that it is not looking to concentrate on Florida or Ohio, Florida was the key state for President Bush’s win in 2000 and Ohio was credited with returning the president for a second term in 2004.

This is the first time Obama has led in all three states. No one has been elected president since 1960 without winning two of the three largest swing states in the Electoral College.

Various media and poll outlets list the most likely battleground states and their Electoral College votes as Florida (27), Pennsylvania (21), Ohio (20), Michigan (17), Georgia (15) , and Virginia (13). The candidates need 270 electoral votes to clinch the presidency.

According to the poll, the largest gap is in Pennsylvania, whose 1,511 likely voters preferred Obama to McCain, 50-42 percent. The margin of error is 2.5 percent.

In Ohio, the 1,396 likely voters with a margin of error of 2.6 percent gave Obama a 48-42 percent lead.

Florida’s 1,453 likely voters also favor Obama, but with the smallest gap, 47-43 percent. The margin of error is 2.6 percent.

The poll shows Pennsylvania independents leaning toward Obama by 11 percentage points, specifically those naming the economy and Iraq as the top issue. Pennsylvania’s white voters favor Obama, 47-44 percent.

Florida independents lean toward Obama by 10 points. Ohio is essential even among independents.

The poll shows McCain ahead with whites in Florida, 50-40 percent, and in Ohio 47-44 percent.

Black voters favor Obama in all three states, with support at 90 percent or above according to the poll.

Someone really needs to tell our friends on the other side of the political aisle they need to think through the talking points.

Specifically, when they try to debunk the idea that Bush's Iraq invasion wasn't about oil since the price of a barrel of oil has gone up nearly 500% and has more than tripled for a gallon of gas since then.

For some strange inexplicable reason, they choose to believe that stratosphere high profits for oil companies somehow debunk "Blood for oil". :lmao:

Au contraire, the Iraq war was all about oil, specifically the flow of oil and it's disruption. The flow of was disrupted by Bush's invasion, resulting in less supply that led to more speculation and unbelieveable profits for "oil men", their allies in Saudi Arabia and their friends in big oil.

Now maybe one of them will kindly explain how none of this is related. :rotfl2:

If this wasn't about oil, what the hell was it all about? Since 2003, oil has gone from $25 a barrel to $140 a barrel. This isn't a good thing for big oil, Bush/Cheney's bottom line, etc. ? :confused3

Rule #1: Think through the talking points before you spread the manure around. ;)

I can't wait to see how big a turd McCain/Crist threw in the Republican punchbowl with their new found policies of "we need to drill off the coast of Florida".

Who needs to campaign: Just sit back and watch the Republicans shoot themselves in the foot. They're practically doing our work for us. :lmao:

I'd call it bold face naivety. When they think about a war for oil, it's to take oil for us all to share, not to drive up the price for fun and profit. They simply cannot get their minds to wrap around the possibility that the Bush administration could be so dishonest to start a war for personal gain and not share the wealth with the rest of their fellow countrymen, instead of hoarding it for themselves and their Saudi friends.

Hell, they still think Bush found WMD's. :lmao:

Even though I would not back Huckabee if he was the nominee for the GOP, he does seem like a nice guy.

From CNN:
June 18, 2008
Huckabee: Demonizing Obama is a ‘fatal mistake’

"(CNN) – Former GOP presidential contender Mike Huckabee called Barack Obama's candidacy "a landmark achievement" Tuesday, and warned fellow Republicans not to demonize Obama.

"Republicans will make a fundamental if not fatal mistake if they seek to win the election by demonizing Barack Obama," Huckabee told reporters"

For any of you that missed Keith Olbermann last night, or don't watch his show, he had a very interesting special report last night regarding McCain and his ties to those that had a hand in the Enron meltdown and the current problem of oil speculators that are helping to drive up oil prices. No text of the report has been posted but here is a link to the video:

McCain, gas prices and the Enron loophole

June 18: A Countdown Special Report on how John McCain's chief economic advisor and others in his campaign helped create and defend pivotal legislation that unleashed speculators to run up gas prices.

I'm thinking of putting this in it's own thread but I don't know if I want to deal with the McCain supporters comments on how it's all untrue, MSNBC is biased, Obama/Clinton/Gore/Santa Claus did something similar so that makes this okay, etc.
