I heard on the radio today that there is a new ice cream for the inaugural--Baracky Road. Part rocky road and some other flavor. I do not like rocky road ice cream and won't be trying. Now if the ice cream maker had come up with Barmocka Almond Fudge--now we're talking. I love jamocha almond fudge....

Totally OT here, but our kitchen hot water crapped out tonight. I knew it was bad when I saw my husband grab a hammer and a heat gun and head for the basement.

One hour and a kitchen floor full of water later, and we're waiting on the plumber. Thank God for wine.

I'm sure it's Obama's fault that our pipe froze up. :crazy2:
Bummer :(. I have been afraid that our pipes would freeze here. It's been below zero (-12 right now!) for days.

Why am I not a bit surprised. In less than 100 hours, those who helped these companies line their pockets at the expense of us taxpayers will be hittin' the road, Jack!

Oh, big bummer! I hope there wasn't too much damage. I don't know how you people in cold-weather areas do it. I'm a complete whimp when it's in the 30s. When I was a kid in Wisconsin, my mom used to have to take the car battery out of the VW and carry it into the house each night, otherwise the car wouldn't start in the morning. One icy morning as she was carrying the battery back out to the car, when she slipped on the ice and fell hard. We moved out of Wisconsin and headed southwest the following November. She said that was the straw that broke the camel's back.

While I haven't been posting so much, I notice that Eric Holder's nomination is going quite well. Both Hatch and Martinez are supporting him, he has indicated he will look at charging Brad Schlozman with crimes for politicizing the DOJ. The fact that a voter suppression specialist may go to jail for his actions is change we can believe in. Oh, and of course he believes Waterboarding is torture, and in any other context would be a crime if carried out by another Government, and even our soldiers have been tried and convicted in the past. Again, that sweeping agent of change....

:thumbsup2 Holder will make a fine A.G.

libs.. good evening.

Good evening, man in black. How's the Porsche? Are you gearing up for your trip to D.C.?

Hello fellow liberals!

I am in a good mood tonight despite a crazy work day and frigid temperatures outside!

I just joined Facebook (I am so behind the times, lol) and a majority of people I went to high school with were there - and most of them are openly supporting Barack Obama!!!!

It was such a nice pleasant discovery!

I wouldn't even think to ask these people their political affiliation!

Is the weather expected to warm a little bit before the inauguration? I have three friends going there - and it would be such a bummer to have to stand in the frigid cold for hours on end.

All three no they probably won't even see Obama - but they want to say they were there.......

Hope and change are on their way - and it feels so damn good!!!!!!

Good morning.

Vacation plans are to spend a week or two on Martha's Vineyard. I'm in the process of booking our December Disney trip, and still trying to decide which resort to book.

Chiming in late to add - the Wilderness Lodge is GORGEOUS - but so is the Boardwalk.........

We stayed at the villas in both resorts this past December for our long weekend, and both were magical in their own way......

Good luck with the decision!

Hey, FOX news has a new comedy show! It's called Hanitty:rotfl2:

But really, I can listen to him on the radio, but this new version of just him- ugh!

Been an interesting night:rolleyes: .

I just have to say that I can feel the fog lifting and the sun shining. At dinner 2night we sat around and sang. The house is ready for the party on Tuesday and I simply peaceful and happy. I am certainly glad we chose to stay home instead of going to D.C. for the festivities. I was feeling a little flat about that until last week and now I realize it would have been a horrendously hard trip.

I agree about going to DC. I would have loved to go and bring DD, but in the end being home will be a better choice for our family.

I have noticed that our happiness and excitement for Tuesday seems to be directly proportional to the Cons anger and dismay. It's such a shame that they cannot at least have hope for the future.:confused3

Didn't you know that have hope was so passe'? No hope for you! :lmao:

Let the good times roll my friend :rotfl:

As I've become interested in how people think and why, here's some good reading for the morning, there's more at the article, and there are more articles to be had, but this one was most straight forward, I'm glad I don't live out of fear.

By Kathleen Maclay, Media Relations | 22 July 2003 (revised 7/25/03)

BERKELEY – Politically conservative agendas may range from supporting the Vietnam War to upholding traditional moral and religious values to opposing welfare. But are there consistent underlying motivations?

Four researchers who culled through 50 years of research literature about the psychology of conservatism report that at the core of political conservatism is the resistance to change and a tolerance for inequality, and that some of the common psychological factors linked to political conservatism include:

* Fear and aggression
* Dogmatism and intolerance of ambiguity
* Uncertainty avoidance
* Need for cognitive closure
* Terror management

"From our perspective, these psychological factors are capable of contributing to the adoption of conservative ideological contents, either independently or in combination," the researchers wrote in an article, "Political Conservatism as Motivated Social Cognition," recently published in the American Psychological Association's Psychological Bulletin.

Assistant Professor Jack Glaser of the University of California, Berkeley's Goldman School of Public Policy and Visiting Professor Frank Sulloway of UC Berkeley joined lead author, Associate Professor John Jost of Stanford University's Graduate School of Business, and Professor Arie Kruglanski of the University of Maryland at College Park, to analyze the literature on conservatism.

The psychologists sought patterns among 88 samples, involving 22,818 participants, taken from journal articles, books and conference papers. The material originating from 12 countries included speeches and interviews given by politicians, opinions and verdicts rendered by judges, as well as experimental, field and survey studies.

If Holder goes on record and confirms, as we all know, that waterboarding is torture and a war crime, then let the Bush Administration indictments begin. No American is above the law...not even the President...

I agree. He cannot give them a pass on this. No one gets this free card. If they do, Holder will lose my respect.

From Chris's article...

* Fear and aggression check
* Dogmatism and intolerance of ambiguity check
* Uncertainty avoidance check (bobblehead syndrome)
* Need for cognitive closure check
* Terror management check

He already went on record with Leahy's question, that Waterboarding is indeed torture... so there you go. He is on the record, thus I do not think he has any alternative other than to try a case on this against the current administration. That should go well since they'll certainly grant themselves immunity, of course they think they are so right, that they may actually believe themselves, in which case no immunity will be granted as a last parting gift Tuesday. However, that doesn't stop Foreign Governments from making the claim even if they do grant blanket immunity.

Well, at least we know there is a physiological reason for it all.... good to understand genetics and how the mind works....

Good morning libs!

I'm a flaming democrat!

I like to think of myself as a butch democrat, but some people would argue that princess:

Oh dear! OrlandoMike is over at the Cons thread asking questions!:scared1: Doesn't he know it upsets their delicate sensibilities??:laughing:

OrlandoMike is one of my heroes (and mixes up a mean drink!)

As for that cafepress, I liked these.. :rotfl:
