For 30 people, I would stir fry some rice...you can do this beforehand and heat in the microwave when you're ready to eat.

Make a Soya/Oyster sauce Chicken and Potato casserole

Maybe make a red vegetable curry....cook beforehand and heat in the pot before you dish it out.

Stir-fry some vegies whilst the curry is heating up on the stove and the rice is being re-heated in the micro...

And have some thinly sliced cucumber, marinated in vinegar, a little sugar, salt, pepper and ginger to go along with it all.

If you still need some more protein, get some sliced roast pork from your local chinese BBQ place. It can be served hot or cold (on a bed of lettuce or cucumber).

Nice ideas PIO, Fran would never go for it. She wants American food.

Welcome back skiingfast how was DLR?

Went great. Used gasbuddy to figure out some places to fill up. Even though I have made the drive down I15 a lot I ended up saving about $50 by using some strategy on where to stop. Also it was nice that fuel prices were dropping too.

Stayed at the Southpoint hotel in Las Vegas on the way down. Really nice hotel and was under $50 a night. Will really make me rethink staying on the strip next trip.

Enjoyed Legoland but won't go again. Went to DL the next day and wished I had spent the first day in DL rather than LL. Too long of lines for pretty basic rides. DS had more fun there than I did and it was really for him anywhere. But he really need bigger kid rides now and has outgrown LL.

Went to the beach in Carlsebad afterward for sunset. Parking as always was a mess. DS found a nice mini Ames brand shovel which he can have fun using in the yard. Went to Claim Jumpers for dinner. That motherload cake is wonderful for a choclate lover like me. It lasted 3 days too.

Drove upto Anaheim that night. Followed an INS officer going 110 for a little while, so the drive went quick.

Travelodge in Anaheim, won't stay there again. Can find same of better quality closer. I was concerned when booking rooms and was worried priceline was going to put me in a place near the Block at Orange. But since I never walked from the travelodge anyway I think I should of done that.

3 Days in DL, I think I did about 25 rides a day. Got my secret spot for watching the parade. New parade is awesome! Went on POTC, Splash, JC and Indy a lot. Never went to Fantasyland for rides except for IASW.

Drive home took forever, I'm still a bit sleep deprived.

Sounds like a good trip and looks like DS had a great time.

I think my DS has outgrown LL too. It was a great place to go; and have a more relaxed day than DLR, between the ages of 5 and 8. We went again when DS was 9 and I think he'd outgrown a lot of it.

I've never been to the beach at Carlsbad. We tend to head towards Oceanside (sleepy, smaller), or La Jolla (more shops, more expensive). Is there a lot to do at Carlsbad beach?

In the meantime...catch up on some sleep. I'll watch LAST.

I'm glad that you had a good trip skiingfast. So did you like South Pointe? We are thinking of staying there on a future trip, but not our Xmas trip. We gambled there on our January trip and they have some nice low table limits and I notice that the rooms have good rates.

Carsbad is a faily basic beach area. Where we went is near a power plant and not many homes so it has just street parking and no parking lots. No shops though. Oceanside is ok too, I like the pier there. But a bit more crowded because it has those parking lots that bring more people in. La Jolla is really nice, but lunch will be expensive.

Southpoint is really good. It was about $47 with tax included. If you join the players club there is a coupon for the lunch buffet and lots of other stuff when you check in. Big room, super clean and all the furniture was in perfect shape. I'd consider staying there for sure. But usually I go to drink and wander the strip, so I would depend on their shuttle down to the strip.

Lunch buffet was ok. It was very big so I found several things I enjoyed. Saw a women take more than half of the crawfish. Save some for the bayou lady. :rotfl2: It had good beef spare ribs. I enjoyed the low mein and a mushroom chicken stir fry. And they had little club sandwiches which really hit the spot.

I had stayed at Travelodge on South Harbor, this year. And I liked my room very much. And I had a great rate as well. And earned more points too. Sorry to hear that your stay was such a disappointment. I don't know which one you stayed at, but my location was very nice. And I would have stayed there longer, if it was not for the fact that my pets and car were up North. I rode Amtrak down to Anaheim. It takes a while to arrive there, but it is a nice trip. And for the rate, it really cannot be beat.

We're already members of the players club. That's the first thing we do when we get to a new casino because we want them to send us offers for free rooms and stuff. We're planning to go for Christmas this year because we alternate my parents with my sister's family. They can't travel from their Seattle area home and Fran can't handle the cold up there, so whoever gets my parents at Thanksgiving is on their own for Christmas. We'll stay at Sam's Town this trip, but we'll do another before next summer and probably stay at Southpoint for that one.

Southpointe is very nice. I want to eat at the steak and shake but the line is so long.

I stayed at the Travelodge International. Which is on the same block as the Toy Story Lot.

I book this trip fairly quick because I wasn't sure how some personal things would be scheduled, so in essence I was in a jamb that I put myself in. Things across the street were 150-200, so I didn't want to pay double what they should be.

But looking at better bidding, pricline has changed the zones that you bid on. I could either go 3.5 and probably get Hotel Menage, 4 and get a place by the Block at Orange or 3 and get the travelodge itself. On Hotwire people said a bunch of times they big on a $75 place and got the travelodge. I didn't want to bid over $75 and could get the Travelodge for $52 on hotels.com so figured I should save the money and know where I was staying. It would give me the option to walk to the Toy Story lot for sure.

But my problem were, it had the plumbing backwards in the tub. Some electrical wiring problems. Some very dirty things that basic house keeping should take care of. And not for me but others parking was a problem. Somehow I would pull in after the park closed and get a parking spot. But in the morning there would be cars parked along curbs, this was really odd, where did all of those cars come from so late? And at the breakfast which should of had fruit but didn't, there was a tip jar on the counter for the attedant who didn't help me do anything and couldn't wipe tables faster than people sat at them.

One thing that is probably bigger for me than others. I could hear traffic on Harbor, if I wasn't mostly exhausted it would of been a problem. Of course I am from an area that is very quiet and possibly ultra sensitive.

Overall I'm not sure what positive things it had going except for a low rate.
