I just finished Kingdom Keepers by Ridley Pearson. It was fantastic!!! I read all 330 pages in one day! I literally only stopped for bathroom breaks!!! The author said on his message board that he is going to start the second book very soon and he's going to try to have it published within the year! I am so pumped about this book and it was well worth the $20 I spent at Borders! I just ordered the audiobook from amazon.com. Here is the link for the book and summary: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0786854448/sr=8-2/qid=1149815035/ref=pd_bbs_2/002-0727492-0253655?%5Fencoding=UTF8 :thumbsup2 Buy this book!

i saw the book at mgm and was wondering if it was good i will have to get it then thanks for summary

Read it about 4 months ago, and I totally agree it's awesome! I want to bring 3-d glasses with me the next time to check and see if any of it's there! Can't wait for the next one to come out!

I am a school librarian and I heard about this book last fall at a library conference. I purchased the book for my library and I absolutely loved it. It is definitely a must-read for Disney fans. Also, check out "Peter and the Starcatchers" that is written by Pearson & Dave Barry. Happy reading! :thumbsup2

Thanks! I think I'll try that book too! :cool1:

Thank you for the update. I was wondering when he would be writing the second book. I couldn't put it down either and recommended it to other Disney lovers.

I have this book, and basically read it in a day, too! I loved the idea of Maleficient running loose in society! I would love to read another in the series! :)

When I was in Town Square at Magic Kingdom two weeks ago, I always gave the upstairs of the firehouse a glance ....! :scratchin:

My 9 year old daughter read it last winter and felt the same way the OP did. She just LOVED it. Her teacher borrowed it over spring break and also really enjoyed it, too.

My daughter read "Peter and the Star Catchers" right away when she finished "Kingdom Keepers" and LOVED that one, too.

Another one - well for the younger set - is the Tinkerbelle story "Pixie Dust and the Quest for the Magic Egg" (I think that's the title - or close to it, LOL) - Another really good one!

Happy reading,

Lives4Disney :sunny:

I will have to check out the kingdom keepers. I recently started The Quest for the Magic Egg and also finished the 1st of the Jack Sparrow books that recently came out. It is a children book but I still enjoyed it. Especially good for those who are awaiting the new movie. :)

I read it to my 10 year old son. We both TOTALLY loved it! I highly recommend it -- even for grown-ups!

But its so inaccurate in many of the things that people who KNOW WDW would catch...

He talks about riding the monorail to MGM.
Any rookie who spends under a WEEK at WDW would know THAT's a GOOF.

And has the boys "Swimming" to the edge of (and falling over) the big drop on Splash Mtn. Who would not remember that HUGE LIFT that the logs must be transported up before the drop?

How he describes the BTM tracks, especially AFTER the "dino" comes to life is completely wrong.

"Artistic license" is a well-established principal in writing, but this was supposedly a well-researched book that brouhgt into play many famous WDW locations...based on many days and nights spent by the author at WDW and many discussions with CM's.

But the biggest flaw that simply does NOT COMPUTE (and to me is a Disney SIN) is that he talks about "character Cast Members" (like Mickey and Donald) not wearing their HEADS in the Utilidors... but that Maleficent is REAL.
I'll say that again.
Mickey Mouse is just a "guy in a suit" at Fantasmic!... but MALIFICENT is REAL (she WORKS at Fantasmic!)

Now, what kind of Disney "artistic license" is THAT?

I've heard lots of rave reviews, and I know its simply a kid FANTASY... but I can't abide the problems in the "internal logic" and poor attention to easily-corrected-by-editors details.

I just bought this book about 4 days ago and am about five chapters into it now. So far it is a good story. My oldest kids are all excited and cant wait to each have a turn to read it. I was also looking to get Peter and the Starcatchers which is also co-written by the same author as The Kingdom Keepers. One of my older daughters is a big fan of the Peter Pan story and I was wondering how this book was. If anyone has any reviews I would love to hear them. Thanks.

It's kind of poorly written and a little silly. I liked the part in which the kids are attacked by the IASW dolls and the part where they swim through Splash Mountain (I would like to know who'd survive plunging down the main drop sans boat). Overall, I did like it, because it allowed me to take a mental trip to my favorite place! I recommend it to any WDW fan. It's a fun way to spend a rainy day.

My dd picked it up at POP last month...she loved it. She's 12, and loved picking out the inaccuracies. After all, it is a work of fiction and some things are just not correct, but I'm sure they add to the body of the work, so to speak. I'll be looking for the "Peter and the Starcatchers" now.

I read this book a while ago. I didn't realize that it was also in audiobook format. That would be a good book to listen to in the car if you're driving to or from Disney.

I'd like to see some more authors come out with books that take place in WDW.

I think the author knew that he was making some mistakes. I think he needed them to make the story work. Mickey Mouse is a "guy in a suit" at Fantasmic but there is a real Mickey in the story. The cast members not wearing their heads is because they are just CAST MEMBERS!! You can not criticise that. Maleficent is real and so are the other characters (don't you remember in the first chapter when Finn Saw Chip 'n' Dale, Tom Sawyer, etc.? Although I did catch the few mistakes, the ones you mentioned about the cast members is NOT a mistake and you can't go so into detail about the BTM tracks! If you go to far in detail on that, you are not going to enjoy the story! :confused3

I received my copy from Amazon about 2 days ago and I can't wait to get started! FYI - Amazon has some on 'clearance' and full price. I bought the cheapie not wanting to spend $20 on a hardback I didn't know if I was going to like. The 'clearance' one I received was absolutely perfect and I think it was something like 7!

I bought the book at spring break and I am saving it to read the week we leave for WDW in July!!!!! Now, I am not so sure I can wait!!!!

Oh AND for the gentleman that picked apart the book.....1. It is a children's book and 2. it is fiction (which is a made up story). The funny thing about fiction is you are allowed to make things up. If the author intended it to be nonfiction then there might be reason to get upset with "swimming at the top of Splash mountain"!!!!!!!
