The kids on "Barney"

I'm almost embarrassed to say I know this but the 20th anniversary of Barney is coming up. A friend of mine is a director for the Barney shows and she will be very busy in the fall due to the anniversary and the big video in the works.

I'm sorry to admit this but I wouldn't be surprised if I got that tape. :rolleyes1
As much as they were annoying they were good to my DD when she was 2 & 3.
She loved Barney. We even went to see the show in 1994.
She was so disppointed Michael wasn't there. Her first hearbreak with a boy. :rotfl:

That is the best Barney clip I have ever seen!

I had no idea that other people found Michael annoying! I remember the girl next door's mother kept buying new Barney tapes so that she did not have to watch the same ones over and over again - not because she enjoyed it! haha! Actually the only song I will admit to not minding is that one "if all the snowflakes were candy bars and milk shakes, oh what a life I would lead". If that were the case I would have good reason to move up North!:lmao:

I thought that it was in the early 1990s that it came out too because I was too old to be into it.:confused3

Actually, Barney started locally in the DFW area in 1987. A mom was looking for "quality programming" for her own preschooler and invented Barney. I'm sure it took a few years for Barney to catch on and go national.

All I know is that DD#1 LOVED Barney. She got a stuffed Barney for her 1st BDay and had a Barney themed party. She's 15 now! Michael annoyed me too.
Comparing it to Disney channel...that's a close one. I KNOW I'd rather sit and watch DS's old "Blue's Clues" stuff (he's 9 but that was his favorite) than watch one minute of Raven or Zach and Cody or Hannah Montana.

I agree about Blue's Clues, at least it encourages strategy and is not passive entertainment.

One of my best friends' son was really into Barney when he was a toddler/preschooler. So she bought TONS of videos for him! I couldn't stand Barney, but I don't think I ever told her. So when my son was born about 10 years later, she gave us a huge boxful of the things. Ugh!

Once in awhile DS would catch the show on PBS, but otherwise I never pulled out the videos. I found the Teletubbies to be far more palatable.

When we were getting ready to take stuff to Goodwill, my younger son (2yo at the time) found the box of videos and insisted on watching a few, and yes, he liked them. :sad2:

Thank goodness for my sanity's sake, he likes Teletubbies and Curious George more! :rotfl:

TINA!!!

(Well, I think that was her name...it was 10yrs ago. She was the little Hispanic girl, and she had an older sister. I know one of them was named Tina)

I'm thinking she is probably a "Broadway" dancer now. Tina and Michael were also irritating.

Tina didn't bug me too much, Lucy, only slightly...Michael on the other hand....I wanted to strangle.

Most annoying...my Dh would easily say Julie (he one with the big teeth smile).

I thought Hannah was a very cute kid.

I'm with the people that have said...given the crap my 10, 9 and 7 yr old try to get away with watching now (zack and cody, drake and josh, etc), I'd love to go back to Barney. I will probably get my chance since I now have twin 1 month old girls. I really miss Bear and the Big Blue House, PB&J, etc...such simple and innocent shows.

Tina and Michael both drove me crazy....they were to old and I just assumed that there parents had something to do with the show because they looked so stupid who else would keep there kids on that long....

can only imagine how much they got teased by others there age

I often wonder about those actors, they are SO obnoxious.

It's a big treat to DS (3 years) to watch the purple dinosaur...most of the time he's content with Blue's Clues (and the horrible new Blue's Room), Dragon Tales (that's getting towards the annoying side), Jakers (my fave besides Blue's Clues with Steve), but sometimes he just begs for Barney. I just try to tune it out.

Though I coudln't do that today during their international festival, when Barney TRIED to speak Korean and failed even in saying bi bim bop, and pronouncing the "tae" of "tae kwon do" really strangely...and then traditional Korean dress was a tae kwon do "uniform" (DH is drawing a blank on the Korean name for the uniform, LOL)...:confused3

Then again, their bit of clothing for the Kenya fair booth was an outfit a tourist might wear on a safari...

Obviously I'm not the biggest fan.

We loved the old Barney from back in the day... when did Barney originally come out? My son is 16, I didn't realize it was closet to 20!!

I do not like the new disney channel stuff either. :( I miss the old stuff like the OLD Blue's Clue's with Steve and Bear in the Big Blue House.

I would love to find the old Barney shows... since I now have a newborn :scared1:

I cried my dang eyes out when DD's quit watching Barney. Seriously, if I could choose my kids acting like Barney or the current Disney Channel stars (Zach and Codie are the worst to me) I would choose Braney any day of the week. Yes, he was sugarry but I loved the lessons on manners and respect.
20 years, wow! Every now and then we pull out the oldest Barney tape with Sandy Duncan as the mom. Ahhhh, those were the days.:cheer2:

Nobody answered me: Can I punch them?
