Well, now that Polar Express has hit the big screen I wonder how it will impact The Incredibles?

Polar Express's reviews are mixed - 65% fresh at RottenTomatos - compared to an astonishing 97% fresh rating for The Incredibles.

Also - it seems inconcievable* that Polar Express will ever turn a profit - $170M to make it and another $100M to market it?!? Yikes...

* "You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means" - <Are you out there Herr Baron?>

I saw the polar express last night, and though visually impressive, the story was not all that impressive. Id give it an 7.5 on a 10 scale where Incredibles was more like a 9.8.

It was good, but not incredible...
pun intended.

What bothers me about the Polar Express is the same thing as the Seuss movies... They take these wonderful stories with very specific visuals and then expand them (poorly) into a longer story. At least with this one they're trying to stay truer to the book, but the visual feel still isn't the same as the beautiful artwork of the book.

Inconceivable!;)

One of my friends works for him (Wallace Shawn) in NYC. He's completely different than the characters he plays. Still funny though! ::yes::

Inconceivable! (Sorry, I intended to say "No Way", but...) Too funny!

I expected a Christmas classic from PE filled with special moments and meaning, leaving me crying throughout...instead I was very dissapointed and barely a frog in the throat at the end.
The only meaning I noticed was Santa's comment of how if you believe in your heart it will last forever. And the special moment, the dealing with the kid and his bell (not to give it away), was 100% expected. There was nothing special to tie up any of the other kids (aside from the poor kid getting his present...again 100% expected). I even fell asleep during the part just before the kids ended up in Santa's sleigh.
None of the other characters seemed to be developed at all, despite the fact that the story completely ignored the other kids in favor of the main 4.
This "new" 3D animation style was interesting, but nothing better or special...if anything, it was a bit creepy with some faces (the leader girl in particular) too real (like a picture was glued onto the animation.
As far as the story goes, the ongoing unreal jeapardy that the kids encountered made me uneasy (hello, Michael Jackson hanging his kid over the balconey), and didn't really have much meaning. It didn't seem like anything more than a (long) crazy, wild, goofy train ride to see Santa for a couple of seconds.
The only time my daughter seemed to get excited was when Santa was about to show up, but even that was played out so much she sat back into her seat before the big man spoke.

Several people on the CB are really praising The Polar Express while so far everyone that posts on the DB seem really hohum about it. Interesting. I'm still looking forward to it big time!
