The I Love BWV (yes, Hallways and Clown Pool too!) Thread

What’s worse… the $8 coke or a $22 slick of cake?

Are we sure that’s not the price for a mini cake?

Is the $8 soda with unlimited refills? I've seen $6 at many restaurants. Still high but maybe with refills that's doable. I don't drink soda so whatever.

The cake slice better be 1/4th the cake. Lol

The granola and yogurt was like $24.

I could walk down to Trattoria get eggs, bacon, sausage and breakfast potatoes for $15.

Lol

It’s looks like most things carry a $6-$8 per item Disney tax.

I'm loving the $18 kids buttered noodles. I will go just for that! (said with extreme sarcasm....)
I'll be honest - I was excited that Boardwalk would finally get their new restaurant. Now - not so much. Boardwalk still needs a replacement for ESPN and Big River (a place to get wings and burgers). Cake Bake is not it

same size as Gideon for reference

It's pricier than I expected to be sure - but it wouldn't be enough to put me off if the food is excellent. I'd have to try it to decide if it is. I'm judging it more as a restaurant than the 'bake' side - I couldn't care less about all the cakes and bakery stuff, I just wanted another restaurant option at Boardwalk, and while I really feel like we need an ESPN/bar food type spot and have hopes that might someday replace the Big River hole, if this place has decent food and the serving sizes are reasonably large, I could see paying a little extra. Sandwiches, burgers, salads, etc would be a nice option. While an $8 soda sounds crazy - if it is refillable, it's not all that crazy compared to a Quick Serve's $4.49 large coke, or $4.99 bottle which is not refillable. And yes, some sit-down restaurants run in the $5-6 range for soda too - so it's a premium, but at the end of the day, my restaurant bill for a $15 burger and $6 coke, vs $34 burger and $8 coke, is $21 more. Expensive? For sure. But for an occasional splurge is it going to break the bank for me? No. If it's the best burger I ever had, I'd get it again. If it's a good burger but not better than others I've had, then $34 is a joke.

That said, if the food taste is only average or OK, the serving sizes are tiny french-cafe size, and at those prices, then I would not be returning. I'll probably try it at least once to find out how good it is and if the serving sizes are reasonable, then if it hits on all cylinders, I could see occasionally revisiting...it's probably not going to become an 'every-trip' regular spot though.

I mean, at the little stand outside on the boardwalk, it's $15 for a corn dog and $9 for a large lemonade (not refillable). My local Rainforest Cafe serves a Rainforest Burger for $16.99 vs Disney's $19.99 - $2 more for the appetizer and $1 more for the drink. Disney prices are always high - this is an expensive, high-end bakery restaurant concept with very high-end ingredients, so it's already pricey anywhere - then add on the Disney surcharge...it is not all that surprising.

I might wait until I read a few reviews before I head there - then again, my next say at BWV isn't until May 2025 - so I've got time. 😉

I have tried their cakes only (not the other stuff), and it is good, average to slight above average. I live 3 hours from the one in Indianapolis

Have you tried Gideon's in Disney Springs? If so, how do the two compare?
it is a different style, gideon's use a lot of filling and frosting, CBS more classic cake with less filling/frosting. they are decent/good, it really depends on what you prefer. CBS cake tastes a bit more premium, but If you consider the cost benefit, in my opinion, Gideon all day. (almost 1/3 of the price)

Thanks for the info!

The opening of this place seems imminent; they posted the menus after all. I'll be down at the end of this month and again in early January. Will try it out when it opens just so that I am able to give the place an honest chance. I do feel the prices are a bit insane; that seems to be in part because it's a "CAKE Bake Shop," aka a bakery. Alas, I am aware that it is much more than a bakery, so I'll go in with an open mind (and a fat wallet apparently). I agree with the posters above that say the Boardwalk needs more dining; I'm also in agreement that it needs more casual sit-down areas, not something so formal. The two casual places (BRG and ESPN) are long gone, which does sadden me. Trat can be considered somewhat casual, but not like the other places. We'll see. I'm skeptical but hopeful about this place. Getting harder and harder to find a place to sit with a beer and sandwich/burger. That used to be easy on the Boardwalk.

I'll probably try a bakery item if it's open to buy something on the way to a park at some point. And I'd be willing to try the restaurant at least once as long as the reviews aren't terrible. I'll be there in about a week, but IDK if it will be opening that soon.

Thank you! I did look around on that site. I guess I am just not sure how to phrase a request. I really enjoyed the view from room 4085 which looked out at the skyliner. I think I will request: Open balcony, floor 4 or 5, rooms 4079, 4081, 4085 or 5079, 5081, 5085. Does this sound good?
Found your post while doing some recon before I put requests in for our BWV std. studio. How did these requests work out for you? I actually just wrote down the exact same rooms after checking out the views on touring plans. Just curious if the specific room requests worked out for you?

I have not had a whole lot of luck getting requests with DVC, and this time was the same. We got room 3125, which had an open balcony, so my first request was met, but that's about it. It was fine for a standard view, with a tree in front of the balcony so you couldn't see much except branches and a little bit of water, but not what we requested.

Thanks for your reply. That’s what I figured. Maybe I’ll just roll the dice and go with no request at all this time.

I also never get anything remotely close to what I request and I try not to be too specific either. I've had much better luck at BLT, VGF and Kidani for getting my requests.

Seating Added Outside the Cake Bake Shop at Disney’s BoardWalk

With just two and a half months left in 2024, more additions outside the Cake Bake Shop at Disney’s BoardWalk hint at the newest restaurant opening soon.

A building with white siding and large windows, the Cake Bake Shop boasts outdoor tables and chairs on a wooden deck reminiscent of Disney's BoardWalk. A sign is visible in the foreground.

Originally slated to open in 2023, the Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers is still under construction at the BoardWalk. However, with the recent menu installation and the latest update, it seems to be finally preparing for guests.

Outdoor seating area with white tables and chairs in front of a building boasting green-paned windows and two lamps, perfectly capturing the charm of Disney's BoardWalk.
Seating and tables have been added outside the shop. The construction walls were removed earlier this month, allowing for a better look at the building. The Cake Bake Shop will have two parts — a bakery and a restaurant.

So far, the outdoor seating consists of several small four-top tables with matching white chairs. They are against the walls near both sides of the entrance.

The front view of the Cake Bake Shop features elegant gold lettering, surrounded by temporary white barricades, while new seating has been added. A menu is posted near the entrance under the clear skies at Disney's BoardWalk.
Planters and barricades block the entrance to prevent guests from wandering into the still-active construction site. An opening date for the Cake Bake Shop has not been announced at this time.
