The Cake Bake Shop Hosts Private Event as Official Opening Looms

While the eatery has not officially opened, The Cake Bake Shop was operating today for a private event today!

According to the employees we talked to, today’s event was for friends, family, and “neighbors” from along the boardwalk. A sign outside of the restaurant informed pedestrians what was happening.

Hopefully, today’s private event is just the latest hint that The Cake Bake Shop will soon open its doors to all guests!

While neither Disney nor The Cake Bake Shop has announced an opening date for the BoardWalk locale, the bakery’s menu includes seasonal fall treats, including Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Roll Cake and Pumpkin Chocolate Cake. The choice of seasonal treats would seem to indicate that the shop will open soon.

Hmmm, wonder if it will open by Mid November? While the prices are insane, DD and I would probably try it just to check it out.

Hi everyone. For the first trip in forever we weren't able to stay at the Boardwalk for our February trip due to the refurb. It was so weird not staying there. Well my husband just surprised me with a trip in March and we have 6 nights in a one bedroom boardwalk view!!!!! Woohoo!!! Really looking forward to it and I'm watching videos non stop lol. I know I have seen a diagram before of the rooms and the numbers. Can someone please tell me where to find it?

Touring Plans dot com (not sure if I'm allowed to actually put outside addresses. You can pull up any resort, see the map layout, and click on each floor and each room to see the numbers and views from that room.

This thread also shows room numbers but along sides of the building. Note that "Courtyard View" is P/G view, not BW view - I think the diagram calls it Preferred, which it was before the Preferred view was broken up into BW and P/G. https://www.disboards.com/threads/bwv-room-view-and-number-maps.3794835/

I’m very curious with the people that say CB belongs at GF. Are you bitter because BW has this high end thing or are you a BWV owner that wanted something simple?

I just think it fits in with the GF better with it's pricing, theme and the fact that there will be an afternoon tea. It just doesn't say Boardwalk IMO.

I'm closer to the latter. I'm not bitter at the addition and may like Cake Bake - I don't know until I try it. But Boardwalk used to have many fun Boardwalk-like food and drink options - lively, accessible, etc (if you've ever been to a Jersey or NY Boardwalk type place, you get the vibe). There was pizza, cheesesteaks, margaritas, sports bars, burgers, chicken strips, chili, beers, quesadillas, snack booths, etc. While neither of the two bar type restaurants were spectacular, they were both reasonably priced (for Disney) fun environments, hopping until late, with bar grub and usually available to walk in without a reservation and get some food and watch some sports. With so much of Disney turning to ADRs and stuff essentially 'sold out' months in advance, Boardwalk was a nice respite where when all else fails, we knew we could hit ESPN, get some food, check up on games, and leave full...and usually for half the price of table service spots.

When ESPN closed, there was still Big River - not as good a choice with the very limited menu, but still at least one option. Then it closed. And the cheesesteak kiosk closed. For years, all we had were Trattoria and Flying Fish - no quick serve, no sports bar, no general American food/pub grub spot. Cake Bake might be great food, but it's clearly NOT the same type of place that we have been sorely deprived of on the Boardwalk for far too long now. I think complaints about it would go down significantly if Disney were to put another sports bar/casual restaurant option in the Big River space.

Yes, current food vibes of the Jersey and Brooklyn boardwalk is fast foods and sugar. However, earlier in their histories, sit down eateries, casinos and nightclubs were the norm. So the way I see it Disney would be historically accurate no matter which direction they went in. And they just opened a new kiosk selling corn dogs to cater to the want for quick foods. Kind of wish there was a spun sugar spot.

And you’re right. The food at both of the former sports bar places was expensive for what it was and not very tasty.
