The i hate twilight thread!

That said, amongst ourselves at home, we can get a kick out of making fun of them. If she brings up a boy she is interested in I might ask her if he is pale? Cold? Does he sparkle? Has he expressed any desire to eat her? Then why on Earth would she find him attractive? We have twisted senses of humor though.

I do this with my niece. Does the new boyfriend look like a disco ball? He'd be great at parties. You could just tie him to the ceiling and spin him!

We also joked about seeing Eclipse in our snuggies because the vampires in Italy in New Moon all looked like they were wearing snuggies. Sadly, she lives in NC and won't be up here for Eclipse, so I won't even go see it. We'll have to settle for watching it on video in our snuggies at Thanksgiving, I guess.

I have a huge issue with "foreshadowing" that doesn't foreshadow anything. Why on earth is such a point made about how clumsy Bella is, in almost every chapter, but that never plays into the plot? Is it supposed to make her endearing to vampires in a sort of wounded-animal-easy-to-cut-from-the-herd kind of way? Maybe it's followed up in the other books, which I never bothered to read

No no....It never becomes an issue to the plot, other than allowing Edward to rescue her over and over. It really is her only flaw. After all, Bella is the perfect Mary Sue who gets everything she ever wanted, even if it makes NO sense at all that she does. I was so hoping that Edward would accidentally sneeze and take her head off, or something.

The only three interesting characters to me were Jacob, Leah (both werewolves) and Rosalie (vampire) Too bad Myers decided to destroy anything good about all three before half of the last book was done.

I am a 37 year old mother of two, and he is much too young for me, but I agree completely! I liked him better in his somewhat brief appearance as Cedric Diggery in the Harry Potter movies, though!

There are so many more important things in life that could use this kind of passion and attention. I wish more people cared about the oil spill in the gulf like they care about Team Edward/Team Jacob/Team OMFG-I-hate-Twilight-and-it-needs-to-die.

I have not seen anything that indicates anyone here spends much time or energy hating the books Just some venting on a message board and a couple of us who joke around about it with our kids/nieces (and we joke about A LOT in our family).
Not a big deal, but it is nice to find others who also don't get the love for these books that so many women and girls have.

Yeah, I can't stand the hysteria of it either, but really gets me is all the MOMS who are into it! My little sister is 11 and her room is a twilight shrine and its all I hear about. Robert this, Taylor that!

I also read the first book in the series, and found it boring. Indeed, towards the last, when it threatened to become exciting (something about The Hunter or such going after the Girl) the author deftly managed to diffuse the situation back to boring.

I also do not really understand adults standing outside a movie theater for hours or days to see a movie. However, I also do not understand adults waiting in line for hours or days to purchase an 'iphone', or purchasing each new edition of such. I saw that there are people who buy each new edition of the iphone, spouting off things to justify the cost ("It has a camera in back and front!"). I imagine the iphone is a 'status symbol' whereas the Twilight series is more of a "I belong to a group larger than me" type thing.

Also, people behaved the same way when "A Hard Day's Night" came out in 1964. It was not called Beatlemania for nothing.

Finally, I wish people would quit showing me their cell phone (usually iphone). It seems like every elevator I get in has a person whom, upon seeing me, pulls out his or her iphone and starts twirling their fingers along the surface, I guess to impress upon me the fact that 1) they have an expensive cell phone with expensive monthly payments and a two year contract, and 2) that they are able to use their digits effectively to quickly bring up the 'no new messages' function.

At least, when I get into an elevator, people are not pullling out Twilight books in order to impress me.

OMG I could NOT agree with you more. I have a couple of friends who have been salivating via email regarding the newest iPhone... I'm happy with my little phone that does what I want it to do... make/take calls.

Another thing I wanted to add...yes, the writing is not the best, but if it gets kids to read & enjoy what they are reading-they may just expand out more...
as far as some parents not thrilled that their kids friends are reading it-then remember who the parent/child is & not let their own read it. I know quite a few people who have banned it from their daughters until they are a bit older.
I do find this thread interesting to hear adults views though....

Generally they say, "Well she's a teenager. Sometimes they are like that." Mmm, alright, I get that. But here is the kicker: 3) Edward is a sick pervert preying on a young girl. They AGREE. And then they swoon...oh, it's SO romantic.

No, it's morally repugnant, and you CELEBRATE and SUPPORT it. And I wouldn't care about it at all (there ARE lots of other lousy stories and characters out there), if it didn't seem to indicate something so sick in our culture.

I cannot stand the Twilight series. I won't say hate because I can't be bothered to put that much emotion into it. My boyfriend's sister is really into it. So much so that she continually nagged me to read the book. Prior to her, I had no interest in Twilight...as far as I was concerned, it was a tween/teen book, not a novel for someone in her 20s. (Side note: it took forever to convince me to read Harry Potter too.) Plus, I had heard that the writing was horrible and about the creepy habits of Edward, which really just made me roll my eyes. Long story short, she gave me her copy of the 1st book for Christmas (howwww thoughtful...) I felt obligated to read it...with an open mind...and while I could enjoy the story, I couldn't help but notice how poorly written it was, how creepy Edward was, and how spineless Bella was. Drove me up a wall. The thing is...now that I've read the first one and confirmed that it's not for me, she bugs me now to see the first movie and read the rest of the series.

More than anything, it bugs me that she will not let it drop, and I've found that others obsessed with the franchise also won't let it drop. As a fanatic Disney fan, I know that when someone says they're not a Disney person, I let it drop. I'm not going to annoy them with all my trivia, what's the point??

Well, if you look at the character, he is eternally the same age as her (or slightly older). He may have actually lived a lot longer and technically may be much older in years, but he still continues to go to high school every time they move.

Do you expect that he's going to be attracted to a woman who's over 100? No. It makes sense that he's attracted to someone closer to his age in looks.

I actually consider that over-analyzing. It's a teen story about teenagers FOR teenagers. It's nobody's fault that some adult women seem to have freaked out over it, with the exception of the women themselves. Pretty sad, IMO.

FWIW, I liked the books as a casual, easy read. Sometimes I like not having to work to read a book.

Well, if there is any thing good to come out of it, rest assured in about 1-2 years this fad will be over as the core demographic grows up and finds out how ridiculous it is. (Hillary Duff anyone? )

Ok so Im new here and definitely dont want to make anyone mad so this is only my opinion. Why does it bother people so much? I mean people like it (me for one) so what. Dont read it or make threads about it if you would rather just stay away from it. I just dont get it. If you dont want people to talk to you about it then just tell them your not into that. But now you have made a thread and people are talking about it lol! I really like Twilight and I am going to the premiere tonight with all my friends. Its just something fun for me to do with my friends. I do like it more than most. But I dont over do it like another friend of mine! lol Shes nuts! Im a Mom but Im also just 24 years old. One of my friends grandma is in her 70's and obsessed! Now that is funny! People like different things and when Breaking Dawn comes and goes it will be something else. I think its fun and I dont over analyze the story like some do. Its just fun. But I do find it weird that the schools around here had the students read it in English class. But like others have said, "To each their own" right? It offends me though when someone acts like its wrong or weird for someone to like it.

That may be true, but, it's really no different than any other vampire romance novel. It's just for teens instead.
Also, do the books/movies mention that he's previously seduced other girls? While some of what he does seems creepy to some, to others, some of it's not so creepy.

Due to the age of his looks, he won't get older women in an actual relationship with him without them getting in trouble or him and his "family" exposed.

Not that I agree with the older man/high school girl theme. It would be a good topic for parents to discuss to their children why it's really wrong for much older men to have relationships with children.
But, really, I don't think that's the real theme of the books. The theme basically is a teenage vampire and a teenage girl falling in love.
