I can't be the only one who knows how awful this stuff is!
Its so annoying how every five seconds someone is yapping about this crap.

Im sure there has been a thread like this before.

But these "books" need to die all ready.

Have never read one or seen one. No interest. Fortunately / unfortunately, I'm going to be in Forks, WA within the next 2 weeks by coincidence. Passing through luckily. I cannot imagine having to live there if you aren't a fan. Everything in town as been "Twilighted" for tourist reasons.

:sad2:

I just read Twilight (the first one) out of curiosity. I have to admit that I wasn't comfortable with the theme of a high school aged girl deciding that a boy (um... vampire...) was more important than anything else, including her own life. Knowing how many girls this age and younger read and love these books, Bella makes me cringe.
I understand that the book is fiction, and maybe if it hadn't been set in a modern day high school I'd feel differently.

This opinion was formed after reading that first book only. I haven't read the other books and I haven't seen any of the movies.
Also- why would a high school in Washington not have internal corridors?

Anyway, I know it's not the popular opinion, but you are not the only one that doesn't love this franchise.

My dear, sweet, :littleangel: of a nephew loves telling people that books are the age old saga of a girl's choice between necrophilia and bestiality. :lmao: I'm sure he heard that somewhere, but it's still funny as sin.

Can't say I hate it but I have boys that tell me its totally a girly thing.:confused3

Ohh gonna have to run this by my boys! :lmao:

I read the first book, with no intention of hating it or even disliking it. I love 'teen' books.

The damage those books do to the teenage perception of what good literature can be. :sad2: If people want a Mary Sue angst fest, there are plenty of fanfictions online.

I like them enough to have read Twilight and continue on through Breaking Dawn. But, I think they're INCREDIBLY overrated.

To me, if it was only one book, I'd have liked it a lot better.

But I definitely understand where you are coming from OP. I think they whole series is ridiculously overrated and I sort of wish it would go away.

Me! Badly written story and I am quite uncomfortable with the idea that boring Bella thinks that it is so super sweet that her abusive disco ball looking boyfriend breaks into her room at night and stares at her while she sleeps. CREEPY! :scared1::scared1::scared1:

I also love that the vampires are rich well dressed snobs, while the werewolves are poor practically shoeless indians. Because that isn't a stereotype!

Anyway, I made it through the first three books and three chapters of the last before I tossed it. I just couldn't take the 'Bella is SOOOOOOOO perfect and gets everything she wants' even if I have to destroy all the other mildly interesting characters to do it. I've read fan fiction better than that stuff.

I have a niece who is a 15 so I've seen the first two movies with her. I will admit that I liked the movies better than the books (although Kristin Stewart couldn't act her way out of a paper bag if her life depended on it). The movies don't show the abusive side of Edward quite so much, and I actually think that Taylor Lautner is a decent actor.

If you haven't read the books, or want a really fun perspective on them, I HIGHLY recommend a blog by a guy named Dan, who is reading the books chapter by chapter and summing it up. He cracks me up!

It's not my kind of reading at all, but that doesn't mean I think people who enjoy them shouldn't be allowed to talk about them..:confused3

I'm sure not everyone likes the types of books I read either..:)

I didn't say that can't talk about it.
I am annoyed that they all try to talk to me about it.
A lot of the fans of twilight have an unhealthy obsession.

Alot of people I know like Twilight, myself included. There are about 17 of us coming to my house Tuesday night for a mini premiere party then we'll all go to see the midnight showing of Eclipse.

For the record we are all Twilight moms who the majority of us have children too young to read the books.

When people bring up the subject to you, Why can't you just say, its not my thing , I never read the books. No big deal! Why get in an uproar and annoyed about it. :confused3

You know , different strokes

I speak as someone who read the first book, and was then forced to see the first movie.

We can't just say we don't like it, and would rather not talk about it because the people that do like it will and have spend hours trying to convince me why a book about a creepy 100+ year old sparkly vampire stalking and breaking into a 17 year olds bedroom and watching her sleep and that 17 year old deciding her life if worth nothing if she can't have him is good fiction. Add the horrible acting, bad directing, and badly written script on top of that and I don't see the draw.

I'm even more bothered by the fact that most of DD10's friends have read the series. WTH are 4th graders doing reading this stuff? Do they really need to have their perceptions of "love" influenced by this drivel? :rolleyes1

Yes, Twilight fans can be just as annoying as some Disney fans. Just kidding! ;)

Seriously, I've never read a single Twilight book or seen a single Twilight movie so I can't fairly criticize. I just smile and tell people that I'm not into it.

I am happy I am an adult and not a 13 like my DD. She really never hears the end of people going on about those books. She and I have both read the entire series: Me because I was a young adult librarian and felt I should read our most popular books (BTW I love YA fiction as a whole, but not this drivel) and she beacause she was the book reviewer for the school magazine and was told by the editor she had to review the most popular books in the school library (she thought is made more sense to review books that might be otherwise overlooked).

She read them before I did and her opinions (at age 12--7th grade--and which I totally agree with) were basically:

1. The writing style is terrible. The first tow sound like they were written by a 5th grader and the second two sound like they were written by a precocious 5th grader. The overuse of describing Edward as cold, pale and/or sparkly especially drove her nuts. It is almost impossible to get through a double page spread without hearing this at least once.

2. She is disgusted that the book presents a creepy guy who stalks you and then "proves" his love to you by NOT hurting you--but just constantly wanting to as romantic. After all he IS pale and sparkly and cold and hard so who cares if he wants to kill you--he denies himself this great pleasure so you should love him. She said having read the books she can't help but think a little less of friends who gush on and on about Edward because it is just so wrong to think that is a good quality in anyone (even a vampire).

3. There was obviously not a good plan to the books in the beginning because they had to do a lot of clutching at straws and weird incongruous explanations in the end to get it to all work out.

That said, amongst ourselves at home, we can get a kick out of making fun of them. If she brings up a boy she is interested in I might ask her if he is pale? Cold? Does he sparkle? Has he expressed any desire to eat her? Then why on Earth would she find him attractive?:lmao: We have twisted senses of humor though.

You are so right. There is a girl in my GS troop (and DD's class) that is addicted to this stuff. She is even attempting to read the books. Her mother has no issue with them. DD wanted to read them but I told her it was just mindless teenage angst. I steered her towards Harry Potter. And before anyone gets worked up I just steered her away and never told her not to read them. I think she will enjoy HP more. :confused3

I read the first two books because I have girls in my class that are reading it. That said, I thought the underlying theme of a young girl meeting a mysterious, dangerous man was nothing new. What I detested was Bella's total disregard for those that cared for her and for her own life? I absolutely hated the books and I'm usually for anything that will motivate kids to read.

Here's a summary of the first book

Bella: I love you
Edward: Bella I am dangerous and could possibly kill you
Bella: I don't care because I love you
Edward: I love you but I don't want to kill you
Bella: Kill me because I want to be with you forever
Edward: I won't
Bella: BITE ME
