The I am a pirate/fireman, I am not a hijacker thread, all about nothing in general

So, good week (except for the actual working work :lmao:)

I got a salaried position at my work, which is very hard to come by.
Same hours, more pressure i'm told, with a 16% payrise (Which is more than enough to cover 3 adult airfares to the U.S :thumbsup2) How sad is it that that is what I used as my measure to accept :rotfl2:

It's basically what i've been doing since my boss had been on holidays and getting ready for her transition to a new store, so it shouldn't be that much of a stretch...(here's hoping anyway )

Woo hoo, Congratulations Bec, Awesome  :dance3:

Just saw what autocorrect did to 'becpee'. LOL!

:rotfl2: Love AutoCorrect, well I love the website, damn you autocorrect :lmao: classic!

:headache:Ds17 has been calling mobiles again am so over his lack of caring about how much things cost:mad:

Woohoo!!

Prepaid! That's the answer, then he can call all he wants, until his credit runs out :rotfl:

You know I am starting to think That's a good idea he doesn't have a mobile and is indefinitely grounded from the phone and Internet but he just waits till I go out and then calls his friends so I am hiking we have to find another way to deal with it :confused3

Oh so that's on the house phone? Gosh, aside from unplugging and hiding the phones when you go out, I don't know what you can do about that.

I've done that and spent the whole damm day stressing about what if there was an emergency I think I am going to go with the pin on the phone and Abbreviated dialing which means they can still call me but I am so annoyed I have to do this will also speak to DH about getting him a prepaid 'cell' phone for Christmas I do not want a repeat of our phone bills before we went away:scared1:

As I was typing I did think about if there was a fire or an emergency of some kind, no phone could be dangerous.

This reminded me of an episode of the Brady Bunch (why on earth I don't know, I haven't seen that show for many many years). But Mike Brady was so fed up of the huge phone bills, that he put a payphone in the house! I wonder if there is something like that around. There may be something in the US, as long as the phone is not needing electricity it will work here (I bought a phone from Pottery Barn and it works fine).

Are you in urban area, my dd has Vodafone unlimited - $45 per month for unlimited calls and text to any network, she doesn't call so much, but she has been known to have upwards of 5000 SMS in a month.! You just have to watch data,!

Growing up, my Dad gotta phone from Telstra with a key on it.

It didn't work unless the key was unlocked, we had to ask permission to use the phone

WAMUMOF4, we're having similar issues with DD12 but its the internet not phone. The rule now is that she has to pay anything over the standard monthly charge - the thought of that has been enough to reign her in so far, does DS17 have an income of any kind? (part time job, pocket money etc) If he does he should be paying for the charges IMO

Becpee, I missed your big news, congrats! :cheer2:

Unfortunately we dont have vodaphone it has enough service to call then drops out when you try answer it here we live in the shadow of the hill our only option is telstra and now optus seems to be working here as well :)

We had one of those!

our telstra home phone now just dials out to 000.....but can receive calls,.....has saved us 1000's$$$$.....

the money we have saved I'm sure has paid for the last 2 holidays:cool1:

yeah, having call barring installed works wonders for controlling costs :) i would do it but we have voip and our calls to local/std etc are free and our international calls to the usa are only 5c/min so there's not much more to save on :)

oh, and after attending a training session related to representation and the internet, i should disclose that i am currently working at telstra but all views expressed by me are my own and in no way reflect telstra or their policies or views...

I would happily get rid of our landline, only charities call it, the bulk of our bill is the line rental which we need for adsl. Anyone have a solution.
