The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

Huh.. i guess Im going to bed too.. Mikalah wants t go read. :confused3 Okay. Night Bernice.

Good Morning Hyenas,

I watched Body of Lies on Sunday. It was okay but it felt too long and I almost fell asleep twice during the movie.

Last night I rented Ballet Shoes from the red box machine in the market. The movie was actually not half bad and it has the girl who plays Hermione in HP (Emma Watts?). I also bought some ingredients to make fried rice for dinner last night. I also went to Barnes and Noble to pick up a book. It's called the Dinner Diaries by Betsy Block and so far it's quite entertaining. You guys would probably like it so I recommend reading it. :) I went to Cost Plus World Market and bought a few things. They sell this Indian bread that is garlic and saffron. It looks like a giant pita but it tastes really good toasted.

I'm so freakin sleepy this morning. I definitely need a caramel frappuccino. :faint: Hope u are all having a good day. :)

Good morning, hyenas!
It's chilly and foggy this morning, but supposedly going to be sunny later. A tentative :woohoo: in anticipation of that. :rotfl:

My left eye is twitching really badly today, I don't know what the deal is. It will start twitching off and on for days, weeks even, and then gradually disappear, and then 6 months or more later start up again. Apparently it's time. :headache:

I went through DS8's school binder last night to check his progress; the teacher has them keep a list of daily tasks, and parents are supposed to initial it to show they've seen it.

So... First I find out (after he's gone to bed) that he hasn't done that day's homework yet. I didn't see him do his reading, either, so I was bent about that. And on top of that, I find a paper indicating he is supposed to do a book report on or before November 6! As in read the book, write a report, AND produce some sort of art based on it, like a poster, video, write a play, whatever. All this as well as actually speaking in front of the class about his report, which will probably freak him out since he is so shy. :headache:

And so far he's done squat. :headache: :headache:

So I asked him this morning about the book report: "How long have you had this paper? How long have you known about this project?" I dunno... {sigh}

We figured out a book he was familiar enough with to write a report on (he read it a few weeks ago), and he decided he'd do the poster. He's been really into writing comics lately, so thought I'd encourage him to take that path with the poster, I think he'd enjoy that and keep on that task.

Good Morning Hyena's!!!

Alecia seemed fine this morning (and most the afternoon yesterday) so off to school she went. We will have to just keep an eye on her and make sure she is ok.

I finally dragged my butt to urgent care last night (I haven't really been able to move my right arm since Thursday :rolleyes1 ) and come to find out I have bursitis :confused3 . Not a dang thing they can do about it is drug me and tell me not to use my right arm - like that is really going to happen :snooty::sad2: :sad2: :sad2:

Morning Hyenas!!

Megan, I love your stories on being pregnant. :lmao: So you didn't find my tortillas. That is sad.

Dizzy, glad Alecia is feeling better. Now i hope your arm gets to feeling better too.

Bernice, that is so scary about your DN. :eek:

Alex, glad to hear that the bump on DS's head was not too serious. I feel for ya and the homework stuff. My last one was famous for that kind of stuff. But there is hope, she now does everything on time, and is making excellent grades.

Where has Gina been???

Awwww! I'm glad Alecia is feeling better, but I didn't know about your arm. There's nothing they can do??? :(

I hope the drugs help, at least. What kind of drugs? Are they just muscle relaxants or some such thing? Anti-inflammatories? I have NO IDEA what bursitis is... :confused3

Crazy thing is it is typically a sports injury - DH made the comment that I was the laziest person he knew to ever get it :mad: . Anyways, there is seriously nothing that can be done, just rest :laughing: and they gave me some percocet to deal with the pain :confused3

When DS first starting getting homework assigned, he just wouldn't do it. At first I was all over him, MAKING him do it and battling every night. Then I got tired of being The Big Bad all the time and just stopped. He wasn't turning his work in and I don't know if the teacher talked to him about it, but I heard about it at his fall conference. :headache:

I realized:
A. That tactic wasn't working;
B. It was allowing him to "get away with it" except for his report card;
C. If I didn't nip this in the bud, it was going to become a very poor habit.

So I started over. I just told him that homework was important, it was assigned for a reason, and he MUST do it. From now on, when he comes home from school, he goes potty, has a snack, and then NOTHING ELSE until his homework is done. No TV, no computer, NOTHING. That's what finally did it for him, because he used to whine, "just let me finish this game" or "I want to watch this show", then "I'll do it after dinner" and before you know it, it was bedtime and still not done.

Last night was crazy, because we had to rush home from school, and DS4 and I went to his gymnastics class while DS8 stayed with Daddy and went with him to his soccer practice. So Daddy dropped the ball in not getting him on the homework right after school (DS8 took advantage of Daddy not being that familiar with the after-school routine), and I didn't think of it until too late because normally his work is done before dinner. :headache:

Oh! And I did PM with Gina a few days ago; I asked if she was all right, and she said it was super busy for her with school and the kids' activities, so she'd try to hop back on when things calm down a bit. Good to know she's OK! :thumbsup2

Percocet? GEESH, that must be painful, I think that's what they prescribed after my abdominal surgery! :eek:

Be sure to take it with food, I could barely eat after the surgery, so had about half a piece of toast with the percocet, and it NAILED my stomach. :sick:

I know - but I think the Dr took me pretty serious that it hurt when I told him that I laughed through labor (I have a high pain tolerance), and I was bawling just taking off my shirt so he could see the shoulder. I seriously should have won an oscar with Alec - I knew I was not going home - I was going to have that kid so I screamed like I was in pain ;)

Mmmmm. Never mind. DH also has a very high tolerance for pain, so I suspect (based on things you've said) WHY. :hug:

I better get going. I wanted to get some vacuuming done before picking up DS4, and I've only got half an hour now that I've dithered on the DIS. ;)

See ya later! And I hope the drugs are helping! :hug:

Bummer about your arm Dizzy, my mom had bursitits in her hip once. Woke up and had pain -- she is not the type to exercise or any sports.
By the end of the evening, when she sat on the floor, she couldn't get up again!

They did some cortisone shots into the joint to help relieve the inflammation.
The shots are painful, but they do help. Her hip was better within a few days.

Hopefully you will heal quickly, but if it still aggravates you .. see if you can have more treatment. :hug:

Thanks Bernice - I am glad to hear I am not the only person to get that overnight :goodvibes

I think of our bodies as a machine, sometimes the parts wear out. And sometimes they just don't work as expected, no particular reason why.

Doctors are the Mr. Fix-it people of your neighborhood. :laughing:
Dialysis is basically an oil change, except we do it eco friendly by washing it and putting it back in. :rotfl:

want any more analogies? ;)

I just looked a bit more at your sig.. Love the Apraxia Awareness statement. :goodvibes
