The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

Well DH had a phone interview this week with a company in Portland, should hear something within a couple of weeks.

He's made it pretty far with the Burlington Northern thing...got picked for an interview, passed their tests, got another interview, passed hair drug testing, and this week he took strength tests, a physical, hearing & vision test and a urine drug test. So we are just keeping our fingers crossed that he gets an offer. It pays real well and has good benefits, but the only drawback is cruddy hours and on call all the time.
DH is on call pretty much 24/7, and it gets old. But... he's still employed.

GEESH. My headache is just not leaving, and I'm getting tired, so I'm gonna head to bed and hope it's gone by morning.

Good night, all. :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

Well we're not worried about the testing he did last week. He just had a physical for his CDL a couple of months ago, so we know he's healthy. He'd darned well better pass a drug test and I know the strength test is not a problem. There were about 75 people that got picked to take the test, then 27 of them passed the test. DH said the guy stood in front of the class and told them if they had used drugs within the last 3 months, to please not waste everyone's time and money and just quietly leave at the next break. He said out of the 27, approximately 6-7 would test positive on the hair drug test. DH said no one left! He also said there were a few people last week that he knew didn't pass the strength test (you have to be able to lift 90 pounds). So we're hoping that he has a pretty good chance of being hired by the time they weed everyone out.

:cool1: Awesome! That does sound pretty promising!

:yay: :thumbsup2

I hope your DH gets the job. :thumbsup2

Believe it or not I'm sort of not sure if I want him to get a job. It's kind of nice having the housework done, dinner on the table when I walk in the door. Let me tell you I know why men like having wives at home!:thumbsup2
Although I have to be honest, sometimes I come home and think "what did you do all day?". The dogs need a bath, the floor need to be vacuumed, dishes are dirty, laundry piled up...:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Actually he does a pretty good job and he did help me clip coupons tonight.:thumbsup2 Although he grumbled about it and complained that unemployment had reduced him to being a Coo-Pen clipper!

Good Night Alex! I think I need to get to bed also. Happy Dreams Ladies.:cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

Mikalah fell sleep on the couch.. AGAIN. i think it is her new bed.

I bought some oragel for my toothache. I'm going to use some. I looked up the dental office I found and they have weird hours tomorrow (they open at 11am). I hope they can help because I can't stand the pain. :sad1:

Goodnight hyenas

Night Alison! I think I am going to head out too. Night Pix!

My cousing has a step daughter that for years weighed so little it was scarry....they finally found out that there is something in certain foods that she can't have..(I wish I could remember what)...it took childrens hospital months to find out....now when they shop every label has to be read...they have to make their own bread, pasta etc...so she finally started gaining weight.... anyway... it was thought she was not being fed..(by the school and some others) Man I wish I could remember what it is that she cant eat..the girl weighed like 65 pounds at 15...now she is in the low 100 and looks great...)

I almost had quite the problem this morning.. My cable got shut off. :scared1: :scared1: I really need to pull my head out of my butt and get on the ball!! I called and got it taken care of right away, and they went ahead and flipped the switch back on.. Thank god. What would I do without my cable TV?????? Internet??? PHONE????:scared: Scary stuff.

Oooohhh... We went out for Indian for lunch.. YUM. There is a place right by our house, and it is kind of hidden back in a strip mall. We have been talking about trying it for a while, but we keep forgetting about it. Because it is hidden so far back. We went today, and it was so good. Mikalah loved the rice. :lmao: She is so not an adventurous eater. not like Alex.. That child has been eating sushi since he was 1.

We have been talking about taking him to the fancy Japanese place here in town.. It is SUPER fancy.. For us anyways. :lmao: They have the little booths where you sit on the floor and such. Very cool. He would dig it, but Mikalah would hate it. So I think we will leave her with someone.. Maybe the hostess at the restaurant. ;) :lmao: :lmao:

I hopped on the DIS once I got DS4 down for nap. I was slowly making my way through the pages of the CB, wondering where the heck the hyena thread was and popping into the occasional thread with an interesting title... Finally I got to page 5 and knew somebody had posted on the thread TODAY, so went back to page 1. WHEW!!! :rotfl2:

OK, switching to the laptop now... BRB!

I'm not terribly adventurous with food, either. My mom loves Mexican food, and so does my sister; me, not so much. My mom used to take my sister and me out for lunch every once in awhile as a treat, but it was always a Mexican restaurant! Fortunately for me, they had una hamburguesa on the menu, but it always ticked my mom off that that is what I ordered. :rotfl:

Ugh... it bugs me when the kids do that. We are very adventurous.. We want to try EVERYTHING. I am so glad we did that when Alex was a baby.. We went out to a lot of really different places when he was a baby, so he was exposed to a lot.. Now he will try almost anything. Mikalah on the other hand??? Nope. She WASNT exposed to all the different stuff like Alex was, so she is a pickier eater. She had better learn!

Now... I love Chinese food! Also Thai, Vietnamese (though I haven't had much of that.) I'm eager to learn more about Cambodian food, now that my brother's fiancee is here.

She brought us each a bag of dried fish. No idea what kind. Some is in big slabs, other finely shredded to almost a powder. My brother says they add the powder to rice and to soups. I'm not a big fish eater, so I honestly have no idea what to do with the stuff. I feel kinda bad, because I think they'd probably enjoy it more than we would, but I didn't want to refuse it and risk offending her.

My MIL and her DH fish a lot, and she cans the fish in this oily solution. She gave us a big jar of tuna one time, and it sat in our cupboard forever. Finally we just tossed it, I have no idea how long that stuff keeps, but DH has not been able to eat tuna since his childhood (long story) and I can't eat super-oily stuff anyway. She asked on her recent visit if we'd like more, and DH said, "No!" :rotfl:

I love Chinese to... oddly enough, we are not big fans of Thai food. both of us.. I think thats why we work so well together, we both like the same foods. :lmao: We tried it 5 or 6 times, each at a different restaurant, but just couldnt get a hold of it.

Check online.. See what sort of recipes you can find to use them in. I know the sell the stuff like CRAZY in the Asian markets.

I will try things. But if I don't like them, I don't like them, no amount of repeat visits is going to change that! My mom kept insisting on the Mexican restaurant knowing I didn't really like Mexican spices, then she'd get mad that I didn't eat something Mexican. WTH??? :confused3 :rotfl:

I think some kids are naturally picky eaters and some are not. DS8 had trouble trying new foods when he was a baby, he didn't like certain textures. He still is very hesitant to try new foods.

DS4 would put anything in his mouth, and still does. But if he doesn't like it... well, you know how he and Mikalah are, it comes right back out in the most unpleasant fashion! :lmao:

In fact, when I picked him up from school today, his teacher said he threw up at lunch today!

He has the sniffles, and I was worried he was getting sick again, so I asked if his tummy hurt. He said no. She explained that he hadn't eaten any lunch at all, because when he tossed, it went all over his entire lunch, so she threw everything away. I remembered I'd given him a ham sandwich today, as in slices from a ham, which he doesn't typically have; I usually give him turkey deli meat which is sliced a lot thinner. I told him he sometimes gets too much food in his mouth and gags, and she said she'd noticed he sometimes tries to talk with food in his mouth, and that might have done it.

When we got home I asked him why he threw up, and he said, "Too much!" (That's what he always says when he gags.) So thank goodness, he doesn't seem to be sick. He ate just fine once he got home. He said he doesn't like the ham, not sure if it's because the meat is thicker than he's used to, or he doesn't like the taste. :confused3
