OMG, Staley, have you heard about the 14yo girl from Carnation being starved by her parents??? And there was a 12yo boy in the house who apparently was fed, as well as two golden retrievers, who got better care and feeding than the children!

 How awful!!

Hi Alison! I'm okay. The fire seems contained but I'm not certain. They opened up one freeway again but the fire is still going. The 101 fwy was backed up and my co-workers had a heck of a time heading home. A few of them left early because they live far.

I hope things are back to the norm tomorrow. I did not take my little sister to swimming practice but I did take her and one of my grandmas to get intl. phone cards. Then we went to Nordstrom and I exchanged a lotion (I got the wrong one by mistake). Some of the employees were like giddy school girls looking at pictures of them with the Dr. 90210 dude. :rotfl: I thought it was funny because I probably would do the same thing if I had a pic with a celeb. :rotfl2:

Our fire danger here is pretty much gone. Our burn ban got lifted a couple of weeks ago. As a matter of fact we were kind of laughing because we went downtown Sunday and looked back up the hill. Everywhere you looked were little smoke plumes. A lot of people up here save their paper garbage from about mid-July thru the end of September and then use it to start fires and burn all the yard/tree debris.

She weighed 48 lbs. when they found her. I'm amazed she's alive. Apparently her father is a software engineer and she was home all day with her stepmother. The father is basically claiming he had nothing to do with the abuse, but I'm sorry, if you have a 14yo daughter weighing only 48 lbs. you CANNOT CLAIM NOT TO KNOW AND NOT TO BE A PARTY TO IT!!! Unbelievable! :sad2:

As you know, my family was over this weekend. My oldest brother (the one with the baby) is being laid off because their work is being outsourced to another company. I think he has a job through the end of the year. My other brother has worked at the same job for Port of Tacoma forever, and they've had a few rounds of layoffs. He said if there's another, he'll probably be gone with that batch. Scary!

I hate to say it, but there are enough people out there looking for jobs now that they might just strike themselves out of a job if they keep on much longer.

WHAT?? They should get a certain # of years to life!!

I think 24-48 months sounds about right and fair. They just need to make sure that they get the same diet in prison that their daughter did!

Wow, I can't believe a 14yo weighing that little. I was tiny, but at that age I weighed about 75 pounds.

They are doing weekly meetings at hubbies shop to keep them updated on what is happening with the strike, and where they stand on work, and such.. So far they havent mentioned any more lay offs.. but I wouldnt be surprised. Thankfully.. they work with more then just Boeing.. Bombardier, MD.. so they still have work. For now.

Well DH had a phone interview this week with a company in Portland, should hear something within a couple of weeks.

He's made it pretty far with the Burlington Northern thing...got picked for an interview, passed their tests, got another interview, passed hair drug testing, and this week he took strength tests, a physical, hearing & vision test and a urine drug test. So we are just keeping our fingers crossed that he gets an offer. It pays real well and has good benefits, but the only drawback is cruddy hours and on call all the time.

Frelan and I were talking about that this weekend. If boeing was allowed to just can them, Ill bet they would.

I hope your DH gets the job. :thumbsup2

Well we're not worried about the testing he did last week. He just had a physical for his CDL a couple of months ago, so we know he's healthy. He'd darned well better pass a drug test and I know the strength test is not a problem. There were about 75 people that got picked to take the test, then 27 of them passed the test. DH said the guy stood in front of the class and told them if they had used drugs within the last 3 months, to please not waste everyone's time and money and just quietly leave at the next break. He said out of the 27, approximately 6-7 would test positive on the hair drug test. DH said no one left! He also said there were a few people last week that he knew didn't pass the strength test (you have to be able to lift 90 pounds). So we're hoping that he has a pretty good chance of being hired by the time they weed everyone out.
