omg.. I am reading this message board about the boeing strike.. It is mostly union workers talking about the crap that the union got them in, and how they just might have screwed them out of their jobs.
gee it took them until NOW to realize it wasn't a good idea??
sigh.. unions are good but sometimes they can be a royal pain and not worth it.
I know that at schools some unions don't work well with administration.. it becomes US vs THEM metality between teachers and the management. Teachers refusing to do mid term reports or to volunteer for extra duty .. because the union told them not to do it.. new teacher comes in and on one side must please the prinicipal (boss).. but on the other hnad you don't want to make waves by not following union rules. (makes the other teachers look bad-- solidarity etc)
umm, isn't the point of school is to TEACH?!

I wouldn't want an administration to step all over teachers.. but I don't want teachers to be so locked into "the union says...." and tying their hands from doing what is best for the students.
Same goes for union shops-- do you do best in your work.. or just "good enough" to union standards?
