The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

I was talking to my sister, and she said that she thought my mom bought the grossest milk.. Whole milk. :confused3 I have NEVER seen my mom buy whole milk, in my LIFE. But... whatever. My sister is always insisting that I would LOVE milk, if I just tried skim. NO THANKS. Its just tastes like watery milk to me!:lmao: We buy 2%, and if I let everyone have free reign on the stuff, we would go through a gallon a day.
Yeah, when I was a kid, I hated it when we went to somebody else's house and they had bluish, watery milk! :scared1:

Now it doesn't bother me at all, but I do notice the thinner consistency to it. That's why I was so surprised the boys didn't notice at all!

When we were kids my parents didn't have much money. So my mom used to mix a half gallon of 2% with a half-gallon of powdered milk mixture. That stuff is NASTY!!! :scared:

And the worst times were when we ran out of milk altogether and she'd give us 100% powdered milk mixture. :crazy2:

:scared1: Oh nasty. Frelans mom used to do that. I guess its no wonder that he drinks so much of the real stuff.

I took the kids to Applebees tonight for dinner... and I ordered for myself... got something for the hubby for take out. Then I closed the menu, and just kinda sat there. I was forgetting something, but had no idea WHAT. The waitress looked at me, and said... and anything for the kids???:scared1: :scared1: I had FORGOTTEN MY CHILDREN!!! :lmao: :lmao: Alex is sitting next to me, mikalah across from me... and I had TOTALLY forgotten about them!:lmao: UMMMMM... YEAH! They need to eat to. :lmao: The waitress was ROLLING. I sat there for a minute just staring at the kids like this.

I need to stay home from now on. :lmao: Luckily I didnt forget them at home!:lmao:
:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I laughed out loud so hard the boys kept asking, "What, Mama? What is it???" :lmao:

That's too funny! Poor kids!

:lmao: My kids do that too.. When I am laughing my butt off at something. The best part?? They were both coloring and didnt even notice!:lmao: If she hadnt said something.. They would have had to share my food!:scared1: Now THAT is scary!:lmao:

I think I read somewhere that it's a good budget tip to use the powdered milk in baking where milk is called for, because you can't taste the difference in the finished product. I don't know if that's true or not... but I so rarely bake, so I don't think I'll keep a box on hand for that. :confused3

I keep a box in my cupboard because I use it when I bake bread.. Calls for it in the recipe.

Oh, you have a bread machine, don't you? Do you use it only for specialty breads or do you actually use it for making everyday bread for sandwiches and stuff?

My sister got one last year (a little one) and she uses it for specialty breads only. She doesn't bake very often, either, but more often than I do for sure.

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT use powdered milk in Tuna Helper if you run out of real milk. ELGAGO!! If you think powdered milk is bad, you should try it with tuna.:lmao:

Oh dear, that would be extra nasty! Is this something you did, or somebody you know? :lmao:

I make plain ole white bread in it. Or wheat bread. but yeah.. We use it for our every day bread. it only takes about 30 seconds to set up, and 2 and a half hours to make a loaf. It is SO much better then store bought bread. Frelan says it tastes almost like sourdough. Plus.. Way healthier. I love my bread machine. :lmao: Its right up there with my crock pot. :rotfl2:

That's the only reason I have a box of powdered milk, for the bread maker. Which I need to pull out one of these days for the winter.

 Ewwwww...:lmao: I dont think I have ever used it for any thing but bread!

Why firsthand knowledge of course.:lmao: I was having one of those running late, don't feel much like cooking nights. So I grabbed a box of Tuna Helper, but discovered I was out of milk. Didn't feel like running clear to town for milk, so got this brilliant idea...I'll make some powdered milk. Nope, not even the strong taste of tuna can hide that icky powdered milk taste.:rotfl2: It was ELGAGO, BARFARONI...and off to Dairy Queen we went!

Oooooooo wow. I've made a few meals like that. usually it's because we burn it or something, but I think we all went out (or maybe ate cereal) after one of my "experiments." :rotfl:

OMG!!! Something MOST exciting happened to me today. I discovered that SOMETIMES... My husband DOES listen to me. :lmao: I was mentioning a few days ago that I had seen a post on the DIS a while ago about chocolate dipped twinkies. We talked about it for a bit... Then we went on about our business.

This morning.. We stop at 7-11 to pick up some junk.. He walks out with two white Hostess wrappers. I KNEW. I freaking KNEW! :lmao: :lmao: 7-11 sells chocolate dipped twinkies!:lmao: :lmao: and he bought me 2. I have never seen them anywhere before. What a fluke, huh? :rotfl2:

I remember on one trip my mom took to the Midwest she was talking about this shop (I forget if it was in Grand Forks or Fargo) that sells chocolate dipped stuff. So she bought chocolate dipped chips. And chocolate dipped dill pickles! :scared:
