The how we ate and drank our way around the World Trip Report - UPDATED 05/06!

From the date on your pictures, you were at MK the day of the Princess Half Marathon. I was over at Epcot waiting for my sister to limp over the finish line. I'm definitely doing the tour next go round. Thanks for the report.

I have been riding the scooters at WDW for many years and have felt very confident on them. I never dreamed that I would tip over on one. Two men lifted me up so fast I didn't know what was going on. I never did find out which ones they were on our tour but did thank them generally. Now I am a bit leery even when I come down the bridge from France to England. It is a bit of a slant. I am thankful I didn't crack my head on the sidewalk or break a bone. I didn't hurt tht day, but the pain from the twisted body started to hit the next day. Good thing we also had a wheelchair as they sometimes had to wheel me out of the house to the van. I didn't miss a day of our park or vacation planning, though. The family did a good job of waiting on me. Thanks, family. I am still suffering and starting physical therapy for the pain.

I love the parade pictures. I pilfered the Mickey and Minnie one. Is is just me or does Mickey have on an Elvis jumpsuit?

Could Lexie and Leah be any cuter? Looks like they were worn out.

Your poor mom, that must have been so scary for you all.

Thanks for the details on the KTTK tour bought back some lovely memories for me. Have to agree with you about the utilidors that was the most boring part of the whole tour.

Loving your report, looking forward to the next installment :)

Did you know the Harbor House has a second floor. They have quite a few tables up there. Since I wasn't doing stairs, I got a special tour back through some hallways, some tricky corners, through part of the kitchen, to the elevator. I don't imagine many people get to go that way.

Every trip I have to have a dole whip. They are wonderful. One year our state fair had them and I was all excited that I got to have another one.

We like the Tiki show. It is another of the songs that stick in your head and you keep singing it. We do miss the McDonald's fries stand that used to be near it. We would gtet an order of fries and wait for the show to begin.

great trip report - thank goodness your Mum's fall wasn't more serious. Looking forward to more.

Welcome! :yay: Yes, her fall could have been so much worse. We were very lucky. Thanks for reading and commenting! Lots more to come!

Thanks for stopping and commenting!! :) Good for your sister! Hope she made it okay!

Poor mom. Hopefully the physical therapy will come out okay...

Haha... you're right about Mickey and Elvis??!?!? What's up with that??
And no, Lexie and Leah could NOT be any cuter! Absolutely adorable!

Thanks for haning in there with me. Much more to come! I think I'm just ending Day 2 of 14? :rolleyes1

I LOVE your TR. I laughed SO hard (luckily no one was home) at "If you like styrafome, you’ll love it."
And the mickey bar thing :lmao:

Can't wait to read the rest!

Thanks so much for reading and commenting! You have to admit it looked like styrafome?!?!?!?!? :confused3
Cool trip report so far, can't wait to read the rest of it.

I'm so glad you're enjoying the trip report! :thumbsup2 So much more to come! Thanks for your comments!

Totally looks like styrofoam. I think I've had something similar. It's got a weird texture and no taste.
I don't get what it adds. :confused3

Ahhhh… our first morning to “sleep in”. As much as you can sleep in when you’re on vacation. It was just nice to know that we weren’t on a schedule today. All we were doing was Downtown Disney.

After having a bowl (or two) of these:

DSCN3206.jpg

We lounged by the pool. We read. We caught up on facebook. In other words, we did a whole lot of nothing. I may have even made my bed today.

We were, however, keeping an eye on the blizzard heading into Minnesota and were getting slightly concerned about the kids and my husband getting down here in a couple days. Although, (secretly) there’s nothing better than watching how a horrible blizzard is coming to your home town and you’re not there. Not only are you not there but you’re in Disney. Hearing about this news sitting next to a pool. With palm trees. Sorry kids and Dave! Love you guys! :rolleyes1

Here we are at Downtown Disney.

On our way to…

DSCN3385.jpg

To get our shop on. We knew we were going to be back so no pressure to buy anything. Yet. We were basically just scoping.

After we felt that we had sufficiently scoped everything out, we walked around and enjoyed the sights and sounds of Downtown Disney. DD always has the best upbeat Disney music playing and it’s almost always really nice out when we’re there. Today was, by far, our nicest day yet. But we did have the added benefit of knowing a blizzard was coming to Minnesota so that may have added to our weather enjoyment – although we really were worried about the kids and husband(s) back home. Honest. :cool1:

On to drool over these…

DSCN3386.jpg

And we had to comment on how adorable this is – but I just don’t think it would really taste all that great? (Plus, check out the price!)

DSCN3387.jpg

More drooling…

DSCN3388.jpg

It’s amazing what they can do with apples!

DSCN3389.jpg

All that drooling worked up an appetite for us! So we headed over to…

DSCN3390.jpg

DSCN3391.jpg

Okay, this is where I’m a little embarrassed of what I’m going to post as pictures of our food because I realized I hadn’t taken any pictures a little more than half way into our meal so pardon my half (or more) eaten pictures.

We had the Blue Crab Cake for an appetizer and what you’re actually looking at is the fried green tomato that the crab cake sat on. If you look real close, you can make our remnants of a crab cake. It was very good, by the way.

DSCN3392.jpg

Here’s the Crab and Lobster Bisque (also very nummy) soup. Fortunately, we were busy (obviously) with the crab cake so there was a little more left left of the bisque.

DSCN3393.jpg

My sister had the Chef’s Fresh Selection of the day and it was some sort of sea bass with avacado, spinach and peppers. She loved it and I also tried it and thought it was very tasty.

DSCN3394.jpg

I ordered the Lobster and Shrimp Roll with fries. It was just kinda eh. Not bad, but not great.

DSCN3395.jpg

My mom got the Florida Stone Crab Claws. Sorry but they just seem like too much work for such little reward.

DSCN3396.jpg

Overall dining experience? Odd. The food was good but not great and for whatever reason – I just didn’t really get a Disney feel here. I can’t really explain why – it’s just the way it was. We probably wouldn’t go back.

Clearly, we had not gorged ourselves enough so where next?

DSCN3399.jpg

My sister patiently waiting for her ice cream. I love my sister!

DSCN3400.jpg

Okay, now I love me some Ghirardelli and I had been looking forward to this for two years but check it all out…

DSCN3401.jpg

It was all kinda melted. Well, it was all very melted, in fact, I had no solid ice cream. It was pretty much all liquid – except for the brownie. But… that whole Minneosta nice thing must have kicked in because we didn’t complain. Plus, we knew we’d be back and if it happened again – then I’d complain. HUGE disappointment. You’ll just have to wait to see if it’s better the next time.

I'm hungry now. Must go eat.

Next up? Outsmarting our "Captain".

It really is amazing what Disney can do with their apples!

Oh the melted ice cream thing would have bugged me so much!!! I hate when ice cream is even slightly melty! You definitely should have said something, you're all much too nice!!

Downtown Disney is one of our favorite places ..... you get the Disney feel without all the crowds. Great people watching while sitting there eating your ice cream.

It was a beautiful day for us and we so enjoyed being a bit more laid back that day!

Someone mentioned earlier why if my sisters name is FairyGodMothers Sis why I wasn't FairyGodMother. Um, if I could take name, I would have.

As my kids were growing up, every year in our Christmas letter, I'd write in what everyone wanted to be when they grew up. Example, the kids wanted to be like a teacher or a manager at Burger King. I always said I wanted to grow up, work at Disney and be the Fairy Godmother on the back of a float waving to everyone in a parade. I could do that job! And, I was about the right size for it! How hard could that be?

Haha... too nice? That's funny. If you really knew me, you would see the humor in it. Like I said, it had to be the Minnesota nice thing - or maybe it was just a little Disney magic that I didn't go all whoop-a$$ on them! :littleangel:

It's true. And my sister completely has the nurturing personality to be EVERYONE'S fairygodmother!

I limit myself to buying two things at WDW. The first one is a coffee cup. I like a big one and the ones they provide in the houses are just regulr size. So, I got my special cup at Animal Kingdom. I have lots of WDW sweat shirts, so one is my limit per trip. This time I got a really nice sweat shirt zippered jacket. It was light tan with dark brown lettering. It had two zipper pockets on the ourside and two deep pockets on the inside. I wore that quite a bit on the trip.

I agree with the Crab House. We love to try new restaurants when we are there. This was our first time there and it will probably be our last. It was okay, but we like other ones better.

Hi Somma. Yes. You do have lots of sweatshirts but this one that you got was different. I'm guessing I have a zillion pictures of it somewhere!

It was just too nice of a day not to go for a little boat road so we did that. We took the boat over to Port Orleans.

Our “captain” was sort of a crotchety old man, but you could tell underneath the gruff, he was probably a teddy bear. :lmao:

DSCN3403.jpg

My beautiful sister.

DSCN3404.jpg

POR is one of our favorite places to stay and I just really enjoy being on property. It’s just so picturesque! Judge for yourself.

DSCN3410.jpg

Sidebar here. The last time we stayed here, my mom had a little mishap. Yeah, I know – are you starting to see a pattern here? We were out on a beautiful walk (ride for her) on a day much like today and clearly, she was distracted by something and before we knew it, she ran (rolled) smack dab into this:

IMG_0938.jpg

I’m sure the pole was never the same again.

Of course, being the supportive daughters we are, we both immediately broke into hysterics. I mean, who does that? It’s not like the pole is hidden. :confused3 Love you mom! (P.S. No harm came to mom or the pole.)

Moving on…

We strolled over to POFQ. Again, just love the walk. We actually sat down to take it all in (which we did a lot more of this year and I think it’s partially why it was one of our best trips yet).

DSCN3413.jpg

We took this back to DD.

DSCN3414.jpg

Interesting places to stay while at Disney.

DSCN3407.jpg

So… this was slightly funny to us. We were on our way back to DD on the boat and our new, less crotchety, “captain” attempted to stump us with Disney trivia. Well, little did he realize we had just done the Keys to the Kingdom tour the day before and we honestly felt like we knew EVERYTHING there was to know about Disney so I’m thinking… bring it on!

His first question: What did Walt originally want to name Mickey?

We shout out: Mortimor!

He chuckles and says: Well, that was an easy one.

So then he says: Who convinced Walt to change his name to Mickey?

And we shouted out again: His wife!

I can tell he’s somewhat impressed and follows it up with: What was Walt’s wife name?

To which we proudly shout out. Again. Lillian!

Slightly frustrated he thinks he has us with this last question which was: Of all the property Disney owns, how much is currently being utilized by parks?

To which we obnoxiously shouted out: 1/3!

He finally admits defeat and says: Wow… we really have a knowledgeable group!

I wanted him to keep going but we did fess up that we had just done the tour. I’m sure we annoyed the other people on the boat who really didn’t have a prayer in answering anything. We’re probably on one of their trip reports! :rolleyes1

Oh… while we were going through a little channel, the “captain” pointed out the birds that sit right on the bank on both sides of the boat during a certain hour in the day because apparently when the boats go through the channel, it churns up fish and they can easily catch them for dinner. Another little interesting little factoid.

Okay then… very laid back day. We needed it after our major dump of information we received the day before.

Tomorrow? EPCOT! How many shades of red can my sister’s face turn in one day?

I can not wait.
Plus your mother driving into that pole reminds me of my daughter. Many Many years ago we were in a Sears store. In the middle of the asile was a stand that held sales ads. It was bolted to the floor. My darling daughter walked right into it. She was about 4 at that time.
