Has any one had experience as to when The Haunted Mansion gets its NBC refurb? I can't find any info regarding the dates. I will be going Sept 22 to 27 and would really love to see it this way.

clarification in case it isn't clear by my second paragraph which is about disneyland....when I read the question I thought the OP was asking a Disneyland question in the WDW forum, because the forum's name doesn't say WDW, and it's a common mistake. My answer is for Disneyland. The WDW version doesn't get the overlay.

It generally closes just after Labor Day, and I think it takes about 2 weeks now to get the overlay up. It used to take longer.

FYI, despite it's name (theme parks attractions and strategies) this particular forum is just about WDW (you have to go to the full list of forums and see the description to realize that, and who goes there, right? :flower3:). If you scroll down the list of forums on this site, you'll find the Disneyland-specific forum for future Disneyland questions! :goodvibes

Oh no! I was under the impression that the one in Disney World got the NBC decorations too. I'm really disappointed now ):

Oh drat; we get Disneyland questions in here so often I just figured that you were asking similar. No, the WDW version doesn't get it. Which is a bummer for my family, as my son simply refuses to go near "normal" Haunted Mansion. Jack Skellington makes it "safe" for him, so WDW's version doesn't work for him.

I'm content that they don't do it in WDW. I would rather HM not be taken offline for the weeks it takes to install it and then remove it.

Seasonal overlays to attractions aren't as much of a thing at WDW as they are at DLR because there's a higher percentage of guests who don't come more than once a year.

I am SO glad they don't do the overlay! I would be horribly disappointed to not be able to ride my favorite attraction in any of the parks in its normal state!

Agreed! I love that they don't put Nightmare in WDW.

Yes, I got a little worried when I read that HM would be closed for 2 weeks after Labor Day -- I'm planning a trip to WDW during that time. Happy that this was clarified!

And this is a great example why WDW does not do it. As a PP noted, NBC can be done at DLR without angering as many people since a far greater number there are locals who can just come back (easily) another time.

From what I understand when we got the big refurb 3-4 years ago WDI had the opportunity to fit the animatronics for the technology that would allow us to get it and chose not to. DL's animatronics pop in and out and WDW's do not. As many have said WDW does not do things like this because so many come for a yearly vacation and putting it down, or even editing it with something such as NBC, would not be beneficial. DL's market includes getting people to buy APs and continue to come numerous times a year. WDW's market does include that in some respects, but also must take into account yearly, biyearly, ect trips.

Sorry, but as a huge Jack fan, I devoutly wish they would do this at WDW. I really do understand the argument for NOT doing it, but I'm a selfish girl, lol. I guess I'm lucky to have been able to see it once a few years ago at DL since it'll prolly never happen at WDW.

For east coast Jack fans, it's kind of a bummer tho.

Not necessarily. Lots of people who consider DLR their home resort don't live within driving distance. (I'm in Chicago, for example, and many other DLR vets are widely scattered west of the Rockies, not just in SoCal.) It's just part of your trip planning--the overlay downtime is reported along with the refurb schedules. So if you're used to checking refurb schedules for WDW, it really would be the same thing. Sometimes you end up having to visit when your favorite ride is being refurbed (i.e. BTMMRR and Splash at Magic Kingdom recently, etc.) Sometimes you get to choose your dates to make sure you what you want to ride will be open. It's kind of like that. What it usually wouldn't be, though (DLR's recent DOSHA ride-closure fiasco notwithstanding) is HM or iasw going down for the refurb overlay with no notice to help you plan around things, if that makes sense.

I hear that, but you might be amazed, too. Have you ever gotten to experience the NBC HM overlay at Disneyland? I actually prefer it over the regular HM. The graveyard scene is absolutely breathtaking!

Not a NBC fan but, would be cool to see that at WDW. Because of the Floridian set up, it doesn't look like they would have to close to do it.

Now what I really wish they would do is Ghost Galaxy on WDW Space Mountain. I saw the vid of the DL one and I am in love!!

Of course not necessarily. But there is a definite higher percentage of guests who visit DLR who are locals, and thus more people who can come back easily if they happen to show up while HM is down. This is at least part of the reasoning why it happens there and not at WDW.

I'm not sure where they'd put it, but I think that TNBC should have its own full attraction somewhere in the parks. It could take you on a tour through some or all of the holiday lands from the movie (and thus be relevant all year round).

As someone who lives an hour away & can go often, I'd love to see the overlay at WDW. I can understand why those who don't have an opportunity to go often wouldn't want it to be black for the change or would prefer to experience the original version.

Sorry, I guess I was unclear. I get that people not being able to visit as often is part of the general understanding of why WDW doesn't get holiday overlays. It's just that it doesn't make sense to me since no one really just shows up at WDW unless you live nearby, just like at Disneyland. My point was simply that since most people plan out their WDW trips carefully because they live further away, they'd have lots of notice of pending overlay downtown to choose their dates to make sure they didn't miss anything that mattered to them on their trip, so overlays onm HM or iasw shouldn't really pose that much of a problem even at WDW.
