Day 2 continued - Sunday, Aug. 20
When we last left off, Greg and I had just finished watching Muppet Vision 3-D. Next we ride Molholland Madness. I have never been on a "wild mouse" style coaster because I was always too scared. Well, Molholland Madness is scary - it feels like you're going to drive right off the edge - but it's definately fun. We got to ride in one of the police cars.
We both loved Soarin' so much the first time we decide to ride it again, and it does not disappoint. I could ride this one over and over. Then Greg braves the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. I'm not ready for this one yet. Luckily, I find people-watching quite entertaining, so I don't mind waiting while Greg rides. I find a spot in the shade and stare out into the crowds. There are a whole lot of goths here today; something to do with POTC, perhaps
Suddenly, someone large and familiar is rushing past, escorted by two cast members. It's Goofy! Too bad Greg isn't here! Goofy is the one character he really wants to meet! But Goofy doesn't have time to stop. He is bustled away, followed by a trail of star struck preschoolers. Now I know to keep my eyes peeled and, lucky for me, Goofy comes back a few minutes later. This time I rush over and ask his body guard to snap a picture. Brilliant! I feel a bit silly - an adult meeting a character all on her own - but it's worth it, and I get to surprise Greg with the picture when he comes out of the Tower. He loved the ride (especially because he loves The Twilight Zone), but he's upset that he missed Goofy.
It's dinner time, and we have reservations at Arielle's Grotto. Our table is outside, right next to the water, with a perfect view of Paradise Pier. We are pleased to meet all the princesses, getting pictures with each one. There is a birthday at the table next to us, full of little princesses. One of them asks solemnly if Cinderella will pose for a photo with her daddy. So cute! But my favorite is a group of three little boys who stare in wonder at the princesses. I hope the parents get a lot of pictures of the looks of awe on their sons' faces. Pure magic.
I have heard that the Electrical Parade is very popular, so we park ourselves on a bench along the parade route, even though it won't be starting for a while. Greg buys the souvenires he picked out earlier while I save our spots. When that tinny, cell phone style music begins, a girl next to us starts shouting, "Mickey, Mommy! Mickey!" This parade is just okay. Not great like the Parade of Dreams. The music kind of gets to me. CA is closing for the night, so we follow the parade to the end of the park, get hand stamps, and go into DL for a couple more rides.
The fireworks are just finishing up, and the crowds on Main Street are crazy! We figure this will be the perfect time to ride Space Mountain. Apparently, everyone else who is not watching the fireworks has the same idea. The line doesn't look that long, but that's because we don't know that once you get up the stairs, there's about a thousand people ahead of you! This is the longest wait we have on our trip, probably more than forty-five minutes. Space Mountain - which I originally thought would be way too scary for me - turns out to be my favorite ride out of both parks! There's nothing like blasting through the dark, not knowing which way the track will take you next. I am still cheering when our spaceship pulls into the station.
Finally, we take our second spin on the Matterhorn, one of our favorites. Then we head back to the hotel; we want to get up early tomorrow.
More to come...
