I wasn't sure if this was a GTY or XGT thread. There's a GT thread already which is why I posted in this one. I booked GTY.

This is so very true. Six cruises, and we have been upgraded just once - on our first cruise. Our upcoming cruise in October we had a 9A GTY and received a 9A regular stateroom (there are a total of six regular and two HA 9As on the Dream). Odds were we would get upgraded due to the low number of staterooms in that category, but luck of the draw we did not get upgraded. I'm just happy we are on Deck 8!

We've never been upgraded! But that's okay; I book what I want to stay in so it's fine by me. I just try to not go back and look at prices later when I book a GTY so I can't make myself upset!

In 6 cruises, we've booked 2 GTYs. Our 1st cruise in 2005, booked Cat 12 & were upgraded to a Cat 11 on deck 7. Our 3rd cruise was in 2011 & booked Cat 11C & upgraded to Cat 9B or C.

All other cruises have been verandah cabins & are booked "Do not change cabin."

There is no rhyme or reason for DCLs upgrades.

I couldn't agree more.. When people sail off season they have such high hopes of getting an upgrade- however, with a special discount rate they are already getting a great deal compared to anyone who booked earlier. Although I can understand the disappointment, no one should expect a higher category. Besides, if there is opportunity at the port they may be able to upgrade at a fraction of the cost..

What really sucks is when you book a gty room and pay the same price as everyone else in that cat and it never says that you are restricted to what you get, but you are even if there is availabilty in your cat you cant move but this isnt explained up front. You pay the same rate but get restrictions

sailing 10/04 on the Dream, booked an 8A GTY through DVC and was just given cabin assignment in category 5B. Was looking forward to the huge 8A cabin, but a Balcony works just as well!

We're on the same cruise. Booked an 8bgty and received a 5c. We chose our 8a cabin5520, for the 4 day right before this one, but when it wasn't available to do the back to back in, I figured we'd do a GTY in a lesser category, assuming an 8b GTY would probably have the same chance of being upgraded as the 8a at a slightly lesser price. If I can't stay in my spacious 8a for the whole week, at least I'll have a starboard side balcony to enjoy!

sailing 10/04 on the Dream, booked an 8A GTY through DVC and was just given cabin assignment in category 5B.

We're also on the same cruise, booked two 9B GTY and yesterday received our cabin assignments, two connecting 8C. Quite happy.

Got my assignment 54 days out. I booked a 9C GTY on the Wonder and got a 9B.

Looks like people on the 9/2 Canada sailing on the Magic are getting their assignments. We are on the 9/12 sailing. So far looks like everyone who booked an IGT is getting a CAT11. I think I have no chance of getting an upgrade. That darn DVC super discounted verandah sale for the Sept Canada sailings killed my hopes

12/15 Fantasy 8A GTY
received 8A cabin 5020

I did call and asked them to please give us the same cabin number for both portions of our B2B.
We already had a room assignment from booking on our 12/8.
They switched our 12/8 from 5520 to 5020 so we now have the same cabin for both.

I'm happy. I don't have to repack to move!!
Double portholes somehow seem romantic to sit in and look out the window. Have a daughter I can imagine will give me many photo ops doing just that.

PS. If the person that had 5020 on the 12/8 wonders why they switched sides of the ship- now they know why and thank you.

I was checking what was still available for our Sept.12th cruise and there are no more veranda rooms available at all. Guess that is the reason also.

I feel your pain... while it is really cool to get a nice upgrade, it is always just a huge perk to be able to step foot on that ship!! But, to really think on the positive side, there are not that many category 11s..hope your room is assigned last so they have already filled in all 11s and must put you in a 9!! It can happen

Yeah thanks, you're right. I've never been able to book a GTY rate before, usually I'm trying to fit 4 to a room and work around school schedules but since we are leaving the kids at home this trip I was able to go with 'IGT', I'm all about getting on the ship for the cheapest price possible and I am totally prepared and expecting to be in an 11. (we were just in a 10 with the kids a month ago) What I like about the GTY rates is the possibility, that tiny little hope that we'll get a little upgrade or maybe a really big upgrade. So the hope for a little upgrade is still there but the hope of a really big upgrade is gone. I would never actually complain about that in real life to the people I see every day but here it's different, you guys get what I mean! Anyhow heres hoping for a 9!

There are actually 2 threads....one for regular GTY assignments and discussion (this one) and the other for the IGT, OGT, VGT assignments.

Regular GTY and the discounted, highly restricted IGT, OGT, VGT's are two different animals so 2 different threads.

No worries...just don't want people thinking all GTY's are the same as they are not!!

We received our room assignments for our 10/13 Fantasy cruise at 50 days.
We had 2 GTY:
9C GTY was assigned a 5A & 9D GTY was assigned 5B!!!
I'm beyond thrilled

We are on the 10/20 Fantasy sailing. I'm hoping we also get assigned a cabin number 50 Days out! I even have day 50 marked on the calendar in hopes of some good news that day.
